Alternative to hot stuck to me jeggings

Redruby2020 · 22/05/2022 17:45

Due to size and stuck in a rut, plus easier to throw on all year around I have been stuck in jeggings(don't worry I have more than a few lol) for a long time. Now we are in what seems to be the depth of the summer, I feel conscious that others look at me and probably think why is she wearing those for, and especially when you are big, I know from other comments how people think if you only dress a certain way or in certain clothes, like just how I feel, that certain other clothing is not acceptable when this big, and not comfortable or confident in it.
I am thinking initially of some alternatives to wearing bottoms so still in keeping with same type of thing. I have tried some cropped jeggings and some looked awful, others very tight. I tried some culottes looked bloody ridiculous on me. Then I have often stuck to jeggings because the thought of wearing other things I then think what will I wear on the top 🤷🏻‍♀️ and then as in trainers all the time, what shoes i would have to wear. So I go back to what I know and are then miserable.
I am done with one or two larger clothing companies never got on with any of their items, material styles, fit all bad. So also wondering if any of you have had success with any companies in particular who are either doing bigger sizes or solely plus size?
I was going to get a few lighter coloured jeggings even, but haven't seen that many where I have looked.
I am 5ft 7 and a size 20-22. Apple shaped, hopefully that helps with any answers greatfully received.
I was so glad to see size 10/12 women in jeans or trousers today although granted they had vest tops on. Another thing I wouldn't wear alone as I hate my arms. Otherwise all other women had dresses on skirts or shorts and I just wanted to hurry back indoors!

Since I discovered chub rub shorts, I find dresses and midi/maxi skirts are just as versatile as jeans and much more comfortable when it's warm.

I found these in Yours....very light, comfortable and cool. I'm going to get another couple of pairs they go with everything fhwt.app.link/MwLdbzp4eqb

Cotton Midi dresses with chub shorts under. M&S do some nice lightweight ones.
For dresses, monki sizing is generous.

gunnersgold · 22/05/2022 18:40

Just wear midi dresses , leggings are horrid things and must be so hot !

Blossomtoes · 22/05/2022 19:55

Linen trousers are my summer go to. These are nice.

OP I am smaller sized but have heavy thighs and chunky legs, so always worried about bare legs in the summer and suffered in hit jeans. A few years ago I got some liquid gel stuff from Boots that you rub on between your thighs and it is an absolute dream. It’s called Lanacane (might not be spelling that right) and a tiny bit allows you to waft around in lovely frocks with no rubbing. Get some midi dresses or maxi dresses, and just stick with trainers unless it’s really boiling.

Any tight clothes will make you feel hot. I don't understand why anyone would wear leggings/jeggings or skinny jeans in hot weather.

It has been nice and warm today, and I wore my cotton cargo pants from M and S, and was really comfortable.

FfeminyddCymraeg · 22/05/2022 21:26

I have chub rub shorts from Snag but when I’m abroad I either use Gold Bond Friction Defence or Underley Smooth chamois cream

I know, it's all i have barring one or two other things, believe it or not. I just get so fed up of looking and ordering online because we don't have much around us store wise that would fit me anyway. And plus if I wore as I have done to events, and was considering for casual, to wear Maxi/Midi dresses, then I'm thinking I will need to get support wear for underneath, otherwise all the lumps and bumps will show and wobble. Plus I am finding it hard to find just basic day dresses.

I want to come round, give you a big hug and tell you you're beautiful. I think you have the height to be able to carry off a size 20 so, as well as changing your wardrobe, try and adjust your mindset and start to love yourself. Easier said than done I know.

I'm a similar size but a bit shorter. I have a pair of floaty culottes which look fine. Also cropped trousers which are comfortable and look good (so I'm told) - try googling Meghan Cigarette trousers.

I also wear dresses. Do you really wobble? I would wear a bodyshaper with a clingy dress, otherwise I might wear a slip which makes clothes hang better and can smooth the look.

I hope you find something you like 🙂

Aww thanks that's so lovely. Yes always been very self conscious. Had some really horrible things said to me, and used to be quite a few stones lighter. Finding it hard fo lose weight now.
Yes that's what I meant something which smooths etc, which is what i have worn under a dress before.

Cycling shorts with long t shirts over the top! So comfy and you can switch up colours. And no chaffing

I'm a similar size and shape to you OP. I wear:

  • bootcut jeggings from simplybe
  • wide leg jersey or linen trousers, most often from sainsburys or Tesco (you can buy sainsburys online)
  • linen/linen mix shirts (to wear with boot cut jeggings) - mostly from H&M (their standard range XL-XXL fits well
  • linen/linen mix T-shirts and shirt dresses from H&M (with funky shorts underneath (I like the log shorts from sturdy by design as they have some great patterns

You need some really nice midi dresses , don't suffer in leggings !
I follow a lady on Instagram who is tall and 18/20 and she looks great in everything !

I literally live in these dresses , I'm a 14 but they are so comfy and flattering, they wash well, loads of different colours

Sickoffamilydrama · 24/05/2022 07:37

Honestly most people won't even notice you they are far to busy/absorbed in their own lives.
Please stop punishing yourself by slowly boiling in leggings.
I follow a variety of women on Instagram and this woman is probably a size 18 she might give you some ideas www.instagram.com/p/Cd23YRmAi1o/?igshid=MDJmNzVkMjY=

Finally if anyone does say something mean then frankly they are a dick and therefore their opinion doesn't count!
Loads of us have been there I had a friend in my late teens that used to say cruel things and laugh at my pale legs, she made me paranoid for a while luckily I got over it.

I love this but how long is it? I can't see any info on length?

I know I did come around to the idea slowly this year. It is hard when I have spent adulthood in jeans/trousers etc. To get my head around wearing dresses when not for an occasion.
Plus if no sleeves or short ones, I will not wear like that, then will need a cover up and then I kind of feel it defeats the object of wearing a dress. Although I have noticed more with 3/4 sleeves this year.

M&S harper cigarette pants, which they do in cotton and in denim, go up to a 22. Modern shape, lots of colours to choose from.
