What to wear to a wedding

It's been a few years since I've been to a wedding and I've piled on the pounds Blush.

I need to find something suitable to wear that I will feel comfortable in. I'm a size 16/18. Big breasts and quite a round stomach area. Slightly still have an hourglass shape. But going more rounded.

All I have in my wardrobe that fits is leggings and hoodies. I'm ashamed to say. The wedding is in a few weeks time so my plan to loose weight for it clearly isn't going to happen so I'm now panicking.

I'm looked through loads of websites but I'm not sure what is suitable for a wedding. It's all day in a hotel if that makes a difference.

Please help.

I'm a similar size and shape to you. I'd start with good, strong, supportive undergarments to smooth everything out. I'd then look for a structured and lined dress or pantsuit with a V neck. V neck is far more flattering to a large bust than a round neck. Heels or wedges will add height and lift. What is your skin tone and colouring?

Look on Monsoon's website, they always have suitable stuff.

I've got light brow hair and I'm very pale. Think kind of skin that in the sun goes bright red but doesn't tan.
Would this be suitable for a wedding? www.wallis.co.uk/spot-printed-cold-shoulder-dress/BYY02027.html?color=106

There's nothing wrong with being a size 16/18 and you can find a gorgeous outfit. The dress you linked to is lovely.

There are lots of options depending on the style you like, just as with any other size! You're hardly 'out there' or miles away from high street sizes. A lot of this is in your head :)

Good luck, hope you find something.

Probably a lot is in my head.

Thanks for the tips, I think I'll look again and order a few and hopefully one will fit nicely Smile

16-18 is pretty mainstream in sizing, but if you’re concerned about clothing being flattering you should try to get something in the very best fabric you can afford.

The dress you linked is pretty enough but the material may turn out to be thinner than you would like. And you can see that even on the model it’s rather narrow on the hips. (There’s no ruching so it shouldn’t be bunched up in the small of her back. That’s only happening because it doesn’t fit at the hips.)

TL;DR you may want to spend a bit more. Or look in the sales.

Reformation is worth keeping in mind for the sales.

And, not really for weddings but if you want new casual dresses, Community Clothing has very simple, unfussy styles at sensible prices.

Thank you so much for asking this! I've just this minute registered to ask the same thing! I too have ended up with a completely new body over the past 2 years - combination of menopause and/or medication I'm taking for it - and it's happened so quick I've no idea what styles will fit this new matronly physique (just buying bigger sizes of my usual styles doesn't work). Plus, smart occasions come around so rarely I have no idea what is fashionable or appropriate (I spend my time in comfy or outdoor gear). I got so frustrated trying on dresses for the last occasion (a funeral) I even considered trying maternity wear (to fit the new huge boobs and belly) 😂

I will be checking out all the suggestions on this thread 😊

I don't mind spending more but I'm not sure where to look really. I've always got away with high street shops before. Do you have any suggestions?

The link I gave has loads of suggestions at all budgets. Try John Lewis too

MarmiteCoriander · 04/05/2022 23:07

OP- the link the blue, polka dress is ok in some regards- its a V neck and good length, but I worry that the blue colour with pale skin and dark hair would make you look even paler! What is your eye colour and is the dark hair- jet black, or more chestnut or dark brown?

I'm dark brown/chestnut hair, green eyes and freckly! Green really suits me. I'm far from an expert, but for me, that blue dress isn't structured enough for a wedding- unless its a very informal one? Unless- you have good under wear, but I do feel the colour will drain you.
