I have been through them all. Despite following the instructions inc about shaving and exfoliating and moisturising etc I can NOT get an even nice colour?! Is there one that adapts to your skin??

Skinny Tan here too

TheFormidableMrsC · 23/04/2022 20:59

I have fake tanned for years as I don't tan naturally despite my colouring. I've been through every bloody brand from cheap to premium. My favourite is St Moritz dark. Better than St Tropez in my view. For gradual tan, it's Dove.

TheFormidableMrsC · 23/04/2022 21:02

To add, the key is to use a product with a guide colour and slap it on. Don't be stingy with it. I use a mitt with latex gloves and a kabuki brush for hands and feet. I wipe ankles, elbows and knees with a wet wipe to take off excess. I've got a long handled back sponge which I use to cover my back. I've been doing this for so long now, I can do my whole body and get my pjs on in 10 mins.

EllaPaella · 23/04/2022 21:06

My friend uses St Moritz mousse and it looks amazing on her. It tends to go patchy on me. Skinny tan gives me an orange glow but looks great on another of my friends. So I really think it's a matter of trial and error unfortunately. I have tried all them mentioned on this thread with the exception of Opretty which I had never heard of.

EllaPaella · 23/04/2022 21:07

Kabuki brush is a good tip, does it prevent it going patchy over knees and ankles?

Sunshineandrainbow · 23/04/2022 23:38

Brawoe1 · 23/04/2022 17:53

@Sunshineandrainbow anyone in your house pale??

Yes and use the darker shade

MangoBum · 23/04/2022 23:50

I agree with the pp who said always use medium-dark, even if you’re pale. Light-medium fake tan is always orange-yellow.

I use Clinique Self Sun if I want a proper ‘been on holiday’ tan, or the Isle of Paradise drops in my moisturiser/body lotion if I want just a bit of colour.

Brawoe1 · 24/04/2022 07:34

Hang on, use the darker shade?!? I always go for the lightest as I am REALLY pale. I have dark hair too which highlights it. I know I have cool undertones as I was looking at that yesterday. If I used the dark one then the patches would look even more noticeable!! Please tell my why I should wear the darkest? It would look awful on me, I just want lightly tanned as I never naturally tan in the sun, I just burn plus surely the darkest shade is harder to maintain or are we saying don’t leave it on as long or what?

I like the Dove gradual tan, gives a nice colour.

ParisNoir · 24/04/2022 07:40

I always use the darker one- it looks way less orange and more natural

Carbiesdreamhouse · 24/04/2022 07:41

I've tried a lot and I am very very very pale. None have worked, they all look too orange or yellow. I eventually worked out I was after a smooth rather than darker look so I often just use a body foundation on my lower legs.

Retailqueenie · 24/04/2022 08:17

Skinny tan coconut water. Amazing stuff, no after smell, doesn’t come off on bedsheets, no streaking..

MintyMoocow · 24/04/2022 08:19

I think preparation is the key, my DD generally looks amazing in hers but it takes about three hours to apply and then she sleeps in it.

SisterAgatha · 24/04/2022 08:24

It’s an old one so I’m sure you will have tried but my colouring is like Snow White.

i use St Tropez gradual in the lightest shade, use just a 10p sized blob on each arm and I find that does me for a week in terms of colour. It just takes me to normal, not tanned.

SisterAgatha · 24/04/2022 08:27

For a bit occasion tho I used the St Tropez mousse (again in the lightest)

exfoliate
moisturise
give it an hour
put on all over, extra on chest - you can see nicely where you have done
wash hands then blend in with a make up brush to fingers, wrists, ankles and feet
sleep
wake up and rinse off

Hurstlandshome · 24/04/2022 08:31

St Tropez express is my fave for even and nice colour. If you have lots of problems with streaks, at least by using an express you can touch up in time for when you need to be seen.

3luckystars · 24/04/2022 08:34

Lancôme flash bronzer leg gel.

I have been using it for years, it’s easy to put on, smells nice and is very mild.

iv tried many others but always come back to this.

3luckystars · 24/04/2022 08:37

(I’m extremely pale too, I use the Lancôme flash bronzer all year round just so I don’t look unwell 😂)

it’s coloured going on so you can see exactly what you are doing. No preparation just slap it on. All the best.

Brawoe1 · 24/04/2022 14:39

@3luckystars is that like a wash on wash off type thing or actual fake tan? I can’t find a wash off that I like

Bondi sands express tan. 1 hour on face 2 hours on body. It’s dark in the bottle but goes on well and you can see clearly if you missed a bit. V natural colour and even. I never exfoliate first cba. Always gets good comments from friends

WildFlowerBees · 24/04/2022 14:52

Dove gradual tan, I'm pretty pale but tried the medium dark last night, this morning I have a decent colour not orange just enough to look sunkissed. Don't think I'd use it every day and it has the tell tale tanning smell so I used it after my shower last night.

Isle of paradise drops were easy but for me was too orange.

WildFlowerBees · 24/04/2022 14:55

Forgot to add I use gradual tanner because I cannot be arsed with the faff of tanning with a mousse or spray. I have a kabuki brush that I blend around my ankles and feet and after I've washed my hands I also blend the excess on my hands and around wrists.

Looks very natural today.

Brawoe1 · 24/04/2022 15:21

@WildFlowerBees and you don’t go patchy? I go patchy even with gradual tan! Takes a couple so days for colour and then patchy! I exfoliate and moisturise so I don’t understand!

Hwory · 24/04/2022 15:35

Bondi Sands “Aero” express but leave it on over night for a medium tan. 3-6 hours for a lovely glow.

I am very pale with dry patchy sensitive skin and this is the only tan that’s ever come out even on me.

WildFlowerBees · 24/04/2022 15:36

@Brawoe1 not patchy at all, I put moisturiser on my feet ankles, knees elbows first then use the gradual tanner.

Pic of my very freckled arm! I'm cool toned no yellow undertones I don't naturally tan well and find it hard to find something that doesn't make me orange or obviously fake tanned.

If all fake tans were crap and you found an amazing one, what is it??
