Shoes for City Break

helenabonhamfarter · 02/04/2022 11:45

Off to Venice for Easter. There will be loads of walking!
I am looking to invest in some comfortable shoes that will work with trousers and tops.
I'm thinking SuperGa or Converse but not sure how comfortable these are.
My only absolute "NO" is Sketchers!
Any suggestions?

I don’t find Converse that comfy and the Superga trainers I bought felt like wearing concrete blocks on my feet. My best city walking shoes that aren’t hideous are Adidas Stan Smiths or TOMS! Toms are especially brilliant in the warm weather and comfy as slippers once you’ve worn them in just a little.

MindBodyChocolate · 02/04/2022 12:35

Both converse and superga are SO uncomfortable!! I wouldn’t be able to walk for more than half an hour in either. I’d go for either allbirds or these novesta ones from toast which are more comfortable than converse.

I like the Novesta Star too. They have a thicker sole than Converse so better for walking. I also think they look a bit more interesting, a bit retro runners.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 02/04/2022 17:00

Converse are too flat for a whole day of walking. Stan Smiths or New Balance both very comfortable.

EwwSprouts · 02/04/2022 17:06

These are incredibly comfortable. I traipsed all round London for 48 hours and didn't get a blister! If you choose a different style it has to be this sole type. They do different ones and they are not so cushioned.

I think I'm going to go for Stan Smith's. Any advice?

Interesting. I am looking for shoes to go around Florence just after Easter.

Thanks for posting the Novesta Star, will investigate. I had also been looking at the Allbirds.

All our holidays are remembered by 'and my feet hurt so much that day'

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 02/04/2022 20:32

If you've got small feet, you could get children's Stans.

Make sure you break them in first - mine made me bleed on day one, but then really comfortable after that.

Hmmm. Not exactly have huge size 8 feet Grin

Fit flop trainers are the most comfortable I have ever worn. I walked for seven miles in them one day when they were brand new, no problems.

midsomermurderess · 02/04/2022 20:38

I don't know about Stan Smith's

midsomermurderess · 02/04/2022 20:40

But if you have size 8 feet, like me, the Novesta only go up to a 41, so are quite snug.

travailtotravel · 02/04/2022 21:02

Fit flops orvstans all the way!

Wordlewobble · 02/04/2022 21:26

Which FITFLOPs ones are comfy and versatile enough to wear with a dress and trainers? Same question about AllBirds and Air & Grace?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 02/04/2022 21:28

Fitflops don't work for me - too wide.

travailtotravel · 02/04/2022 21:50

Fitflops Rally. Also I have several pairs of allegra flats which I can walk miles in.

ISpyCobraKai · 02/04/2022 21:52

I wore Superga hi tops on a 4 day city break in Edinburgh.

EwwSprouts · 02/04/2022 21:57

@wordwobble Go for the anatronicush sole and then a suede or knit style. I have the knit in ivory with a fine metallic gold thread woven in & a navy suede pair.

Don't wear converse whatever you do! I ended up with very bruised feet/ collapsed arches walking too much in them!
Stan Smiths are comfy although I agree with PP to wear them in first. I had to scrub my blood of mine after my first wear but they were fine safety

AuntieMarys · 02/04/2022 22:12

I can walk for miles in my leather supergas

TheAbbotOfUnreason · 02/04/2022 22:21

I’d go New Balance with decent arch support.

ukborn · 02/04/2022 23:06

Fitflop - a friend who walks alot says they are like walking in air.

roxisolerenshaw · 02/04/2022 23:13

I have superga trainers and I'm getting rid of them as they're so painfully uncomfortable!

AntSecret · 02/04/2022 23:21

Apologies can't work out how to link but I have Puma Carina in black suede. There are lots of different styles and colours/materials but they all have this amazing foam insole that is honestly like walking on a CLOUD. The soles are not at all stiff either despite looking chunkyish. They're so amazing I'm buying them in another colour as well. I'm ruined for all other trainers now Grin

LadyEloise1 · 03/04/2022 14:19

Skechers Arch Fit - lots of styles and colours. They support your arches unlike other Skechers.
