Necklace similar to Tiffany's but less £££

Dd is going to be 15 in a few weeks and has her heart set on this necklace.

www.tiffany.co.uk/jewelry/necklaces-pendants/return-to-tiffany-mini-double-heart-tag-pendant-28751249/

She maintains that she's wanted it for years (she has mentioned it intermittently tbf). There's nothing else that she wants for her birthday, other than a few clothes and plant pots etc which I've already bought her.

I think it's too expensive for a 15th birthday present - 'more special' birthday maybe, but recognise that that's all a bit random. I'm also not sure when she'll wear it as she doesn't have much of a social life, and think she'll have gone off it by the time that she does.

Has anyone seen something similar but much, much cheaper about?

TIA

There is a pink one, though it's a little more money 🙂

PrancerFeet · 13/03/2022 17:53

I think you should give her a set amount towards it and help her get a job or do chores for the rest. I'd tell her this before her birthday. My 15 year old works in a chip shop on the till on a Friday evening.

@TheQueensCousin

There's currently the exact same necklace that your DD wants on VINTED for £65. You might even be able to haggle the price down. 🤞🏼
Never looked at Vinted before, but Lordy there’s an awful lot of very obviously fake Tiffany on there at high prices, I wouldn’t touch that with a barge pole.

I agree with PPs - quite fair enough to say no, but don’t buy something similar.

I would also say that even authentic second hand unlikely to have the same experience as the lovely Tiffany packaging for her, although buying something I knew was ‘right’ at a bargain price would be fine for me.

ImInStealthMode · 13/03/2022 18:06

I think it would be a shame to save it for 'special occasions'. She should enjoy it every day.

Assume she'd only take it off at school for PE / Games so maybe just don't wear it those days? Hard to lose a necklace if you don't take it off.

Gonnagetgoing · 14/03/2022 17:31

I’d get her it but say she has to do chores or say it’s part of Easter/Christmas gift.

Whatadayyyy · 14/03/2022 17:39

Could you chip in with grandparents/aunts/uncles and get it as a gift from you all? Agree with previous posters, don’t buy a duplicate if it’s Tiffany she specifically want. I would either chip in with other family members or save it for her 16th

Twitterwhooooo · 14/03/2022 18:44

Thanks all.

She's amenable to waiting until her 16th, so all good. Possibly joint Xmas present too.

They are beautiful necklaces, and it will be lovely to buy it for her.

@Twitterwhooooo

A second-hand one would be more financially viable, that's for sure.
I came to suggest pre owned. This one is £115

LittleBearPad · 14/03/2022 20:13

That seller has oceans of Tiffany jewellery to sell - I’d assume it was a fake.

whirlygirl · 14/03/2022 23:05

Tiffany have a duty free store at Heathrow if you know anyone travelling.

The prices have really hiked, going by that link. I bought a necklace from there a few years ago that I've just realised is now worth well over £500 and I've been wearing it to swim in.

Be very careful with eBay. Genuine sellers won't be flogging loads of the same thing.

Viviennemary · 14/03/2022 23:15

If you can afford it and thats what you would normally spend I would just buy it. A substitute won't be the same.

If that’s what the OP normally spent on birthdays, she wouldn’t be posting!

Good plan OP, it’s a lovely necklace.

You just need some ideas what to get her this year now!

Raizin · 24/03/2022 18:02

Muru do some nice (affordable) pieces which are lovely as gifts.

peaceanddove · 24/03/2022 18:49

Tiffany definitely seems a thing for teenage girls. Both our DDs had them for their 18th birthdays. But don't buy a cheaper version. Better to get something else entirely.

I’ve got a cheaper necklace, I paid £150 for it two years ago and it’s now £220. I didn’t realise that their prices had increased so much!

I was considering a necklace for our son’s girlfriend’s 21st birthday but as much as I love her it’s way over budget now.

homemadecookie · 25/03/2022 00:56

I love Tiffany jewellery and 20 years ago I was stung twice with fakes on ebay. I was so excited at the prices i ordered 2, not realising they were fake. I was so upset when they arrived and saw them. The necklace chain was cheap and the engraving was just not right. I never wore them and eventually gave them away as they reminded me of how stupid I was to believe I had a bargain.

Glad to see she's suggested something else, I'm sure she will appreciate her little blue box all the more next year.

SmugOldBag · 25/03/2022 01:21

If she wants a Tiffany necklace she wants a Tiffany necklace not one that looks vaguely similar. She will be mortified with a 'look alike'. It's like someone asking for Nike trainers and getting a no brand. white trainer with a stripe on the side

Try eBay for pre owned but be aware that it's also awash with fakes that you will pay 80% of the actual cost for.

I'd probably explain to her it's both 15 and 16th birthday pressie.

Wiredforsound · 25/03/2022 04:50

It’s mature of her to wait until her 16th and I think it’s a lovely gift for a 16th birthday. You could also see if your parents or siblings or similar wanted to make a contribution to it instead of buying separate gifts as then it a ‘family’ present which feels quite special and precious.

@whirlygirl - Agreed that Tiffany prices have hiked a lot in the past few years!
chubbachub · 25/03/2022 10:53

Ted Baker do similar ones

peaceanddove · 25/03/2022 17:51

Christ, have just checked the Tiffany site and DD1's necklace has gone up £45 in just over a year!

XingMing · 27/03/2022 17:40

I am agreeing with all the peeps telling you not to substitute. Tiffany's best designs in silver are timeless classics that she could wear to her dying day. If it's over-budget for you, and if she would like one big present, get the family to dob in whatever they would normally spend, and take her there, with afternoon afterwards, to try it on and make the final decision.

CallMeColbert · 27/03/2022 19:20

Re Tiffany Necklace. When you buy anything Tiffany, you're strictly paying for the name. Your 15 year old daughter wants one of these necklaces, yet you're concerned about the price. There are hundreds of thousands of pre-owned available. You can find one online, including the pouch and the box. It's insane to pay retail price.
