I am 58 and 5' 3" and weigh between 8 stone 3lbs and 8 stone 6.

I bought my SIL a pair of size 12, (at her request as she can't get them in her city), as she has put on weight she handed them back to me a few months ago, they have been a bit of a revelation, I don't find myself wanting to change out of them at 6.00 or similar every evening, but they do look too big on me. IYKWIM

What sort of jeans should I be looking at,(without looking like something from Dexy's midnight runners Grin also what style of jeans make you look like you have a waist, as I just go straight down these days.

I lost my weight on the cancer diet and miss my curves.

TIA

That's a pretty shit diet! Flowers

Have a look at this www.esprit.co.uk/womenswear/clothes/jeans which might give you ideas for different shapes and fits. They always have a variety so it's good for seeing what might be right even if you don't buy from there.

@SoupDragon you popped into my head the other day.

I was here when all of this was green fields, so here is a random question for you, do you still have the recipe for Wong's legendary chocolate brownies. I will happily DM you my user name from those days if it helps.

Thank you for the link I shall have a look.

I do! I made some only last week.

SoupDragon · 12/03/2022 11:51

A 7 or 8 inch square tin lined with greaseproof paper/baking parchment and the oven set to 180/GM4 moderate oven.

A small saucepan in to which you put

150g butter
150g chocolate, at least half of it should be plain

On a low heat and let it melt together and leave it to cool slightly

Then beat together in a bowl
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla extract
175g caster sugar
Until creamy looking, use a hand whisk or an electric one

Then sift in
100g plain flour
1 big tablespoon of drinking chocolate
And a quarter of a teaspoon of salt

Throw in 100g walnuts
And the chocolate and butter and mix well with a spatula, but don't beat it. It should be smooth and glossy.

Scrape the batter into the lined tin and bake it for 18 minutes.

Then have a look at it, the top should be pale and opaque with a couple of cracks starting to emerge like a dried up muddy puddle. The body of the mix will still be slightly wobbly with the edges looking like ordinary cake. If it isn’t like this then leave it in for another 3 minutes or until the first cracks in the puddle surface appear.

Then leave it in the tin to cool for 20 minutes.

I just love how it went from jeans to brownie recipes in 5 posts. Grin

SoupDragon · 12/03/2022 12:36

The irony of wanting both looser jeans and a brownie recipe was not lost on me 😂

woodhill · 12/03/2022 12:37

Sounds great may try brownies out

Still wearing skinnies, there's life in them yet😀

WhatTheWhoTheWhatThe · 12/03/2022 12:40

Marks place for brownie recipe!

Casheeeew · 12/03/2022 13:53

Come for the jeans, stay for the brownies

Odoreida · 12/03/2022 13:56

Skinny jeans are bad for spring / summer, though I go back to them in winter. I'll be in some mom jeans with adidas gazelles & no socks as soon as it warms up a bit

Odoreida · 12/03/2022 13:57

And the brownies sound magnificent

LarkRize · 12/03/2022 14:03

Marking for the brownies here too!

avocadotofu · 12/03/2022 14:05

This is a great thread, I'm making those brownies now, yum!

Aniita · 12/03/2022 14:08

If you are straight up and down, I think boyfriend jeans look fantastic.

Unfortunately, I have bum and thigh cur moves which ruin their line, so can't wear them. If you want something more structured shape wise, look at high waist wide leg types. The high waist pins you in and gives you shape

AlisonDonut · 12/03/2022 14:13

Interesting.

I wear flared jeans these days, it stops the top of my work boots from catching on the other trouser leg and tripping me up. I say work boots, it is working in the garden that I do all day.

And

Secondly, I bought a house with a walnut tree so made that exact same recipe of brownies 2 weeks ago as we had loads of walnuts that we picked when we got here and wanted to use them. It was blooming lovely.

GreyTS · 12/03/2022 14:18

I'm pretty straight up and down, similar height and weight to you OP, and I bought these in H&M last week, absolutely love them!

Never thought I would say this, but I appear to be over skinny jeans....

Kitkat151 · 12/03/2022 14:30

Place marking as I only ever wear skinnies and feel like I should try other styles.
I’m 57, size 8 to 10 , 5ft 6 .....I’ve got some demin dungarees that I like to wear ( quite fitted ) but other than that I’m clueless

Are you young? ( as in below 50)....I’m 57 and don’t think I could carry these off
Shehasadiamondinthesky · 12/03/2022 14:33

Skinny jeans aren't skinny on me. I've always worn boot up trousers.

MacaroniBaloney · 12/03/2022 14:51

I've just moved to mom high waisted jeans. Have tried a cheap pair from DP and M&S. I wear them with trainers and a shorter top as in Skinnies I needed a longer top.
I do feel more current, however friends think Im mad.

woodhill · 13/03/2022 14:25

@SoupDragon

Tried the Brownies- thanks - they are lovely

But then you being of Clangers origin, I would expect this😁

Gonnagetgoing · 13/03/2022 14:34

I was in a boutique yday and saw barrel, balloon etc jeans but I really think I suit mom jeans better now.

And I loved skinny jeans up til recently!
