Never thought I would say this, but I appear to be over skinny jeans....

I am 58 and 5' 3" and weigh between 8 stone 3lbs and 8 stone 6.

I bought my SIL a pair of size 12, (at her request as she can't get them in her city), as she has put on weight she handed them back to me a few months ago, they have been a bit of a revelation, I don't find myself wanting to change out of them at 6.00 or similar every evening, but they do look too big on me. IYKWIM

What sort of jeans should I be looking at,(without looking like something from Dexy's midnight runners Grin also what style of jeans make you look like you have a waist, as I just go straight down these days.

I lost my weight on the cancer diet and miss my curves.

TIA

I'm 50 and I'm so over skinny's and jeans in general.

I found myself some really nice pleather joggers at Meek Boutique and live in them

(Wanders off to make brownies)

I'm currently living in Pull & Bear mid waist slouchy jeans. I have a pair in blue and another in grey.

I'm also seeing lots of this type of thing around - although mostly by people who are the same age now as I would have been when I wore similar ones in the 90s.

I think if you're straight up and down, jeans that are fitted in the waist but looser through the leg can give the illusion of curves/having a waist. I'm a pear though! And am definitely over skinnies.

How does Pull & Bear sizing come up @evilharpy? I haven't bought from them before but might order a pair of the slouchy jeans

I promise I am definitely not on the M&S secret marketing team but their jeans are amazing atm. In my skinnies era (20yrs?) I was topshop all the way, but I have grey M&S boyfriend in a 10&12 depending on how many brownies I have in fact eaten, and some gorgeous washed out blue mom-style ones, the balloon are I think the same as whistles barrel and the Sophia are so so so comfy.

But then I bought a per una cardi recently kidding myself it was just like a sezane one so who am I to say.

evilharpy · 14/03/2022 13:18

@Winterjoy hard to give an accurate answer as the two pairs I have came up so different. I'm currently the bigger end of a 12 and wanted them loose so I ordered a 14. The grey ones were massive and the blue ones would barely zip up (and my waist is not big). I've lost a few pounds and they do fit now. There was a good couple of inches between the two pairs.

I'd order a few sizes and return the ones that don't fit - returns are free.

I also got a couple of shacket/overshirt things and they came up massive - even the small is still very oversized.

PM for the brownie recipe Smile

I can't vouch for how flattering they are but I am currently liking M&S barrel cropped jeans. So comfy and not dragging along the floor (my hate with anything bootleg/flare). Have worn with high too air and grace trainers and my doc martens.

I like the look of these....can I ask how old you are? I’m 57 and am looking for an alternative to skinnies for spring....I wear converse mainly and am a size 10....not sure I could pull them off....but do like them very much
samthebordercollie · 14/03/2022 20:43

I'm 56, 5'8 size 8 and straight up and down. I lived in skinnies for years but last summer went shopping with DD and bought a mom high waist and a boy fit pair of jeans. They are both really comfortable and although when it's cold I go back to skinnies I love the other styles. They both look good with boots, trainers and chunky sandals.

@Kitkat151 I'm 41. I wear a lot of chunky boots like docs, All Saints and chunky Grensons, and they go great with these.
