Dungarees 👀

I'm 28, a mother of 3.

I've been eyeing up dungarees since last year. My OH thought that was quite amusing as our toddlers have many pairs and so he associate's them to said toddlers.

I finally thought 'fuck it' I like them so bought some today, denim.

Would you wear denim dungarees or do you think they're best left for the kids 😂

Oh, and if it's a phase it's one I've been in since the 90s (though I did wear loud, colourful ones then!)

TinaYouFatLard · 11/03/2022 10:23

I’m similar height and size as you OP and I have two pairs at the moment - denim and black corduroy. I love them but am careful about what I pair them with to avoid looking like a CBBC presenter. No bright colours or stripes. I stick with a really simple black, white or grey T-shirt.

Don't the straps fall in the toilet when u go for a wee? Or hit the floor in the loo....
Only ever used popper ones for toddler in the nappy stage...

I am very clumsy so I've never quite worked out the practicals! Although like the idea of them...

Also if you are big of boob and tum would u just look pregnant??

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 11/03/2022 12:21

I find it easier to shimmy out of mine compared to undoing button, zip and the weird metal thing beside the button on my trousers. Whatever it is called. Like a bra strap hook. So possibly a hook?

I leave the straps fastened so they aren't any lower than the fabric around my ankles when I go to the loo.

Lzzyisgod · 11/03/2022 12:31

Oh I love them. And dungarees dresses - I have probably 4 trouser ones and 5 dresses in denim, cord and Linen for the summer

I like a plain lyrca body suit underneath (stops everything bunching up) teamed with a zipped hoodie and converse and my crazy wild curly long hair. Boots sometimes with a dress.

43, size 10 and I too dngaf.

Lzzyisgod · 11/03/2022 12:32

It's a unique look Grin

I love them too and also don’t care about the toddler thing. Someone at work recently called me Andy Pandy!! There’s lots of things other people wear that I wouldn’t, it’s ok.

The straps don't go on the floor in the same way as your trousers don't go on the floor. They sit on your lap/thighs. Most dungarees now don't untie or unhook, they remain fastened and you just fold them down.

And your body is your body. If you wear clothes that fit, your proportions are what they are. I don't think people look pregnant in dungarees any more than they do in jeans and a top. But equally, I don't care if I look pregnant or people think I have a huge arse or that I'm dressed like a children's presenter (they dress in normal clothes tbh anyway).

I also don't wear clothes to "look alternative". I'm not a 13yr old emo. Usually people are projecting their own feelings and the actual dungaree wearers are just happy with their purchase and loving the myriad pocket options.

ringoutthebells · 11/03/2022 12:49

I bought some several years ago, could never make them work. Some people can get away with them, but definitely not everyone.

EllaPaella · 11/03/2022 14:08

I have two pairs (in my 40's). A slim black soft denim pair and some looser boyfriend style Gap ones. I wear the Gap denim ones a fair amount in summer. I've hardly worn the black ones.
Personally I'm not a fan of the brightly coloured Lucy and Yak ones but they look on other people, it's just the bright colours and patterns are not my thing.
I see loads of people wearing dungarees now.

KirstenBlest · 11/03/2022 15:50

I wear dungarees because they are easy. Little t-shirt underneath, trainers or boots and it's an outfit. I'm quite short so I feel taller, and I wear denim or bold prints. I get compliments and I've been asked by women decades younger where I got them from

ISpyCobraKai · 11/03/2022 15:53

@Verity226

Nothing more toddlerish than dinosaur dungs and stripey top

Oh dear, I specifically bought myself two stripey tops to wear with them. One white with black stripes and the other black with white stripes 😂

I'm wearing my black skinny ones tomorrow with a black and white stripy tee and black high top Supergas, to see BTS in the cinema probably with a whole load of teenagers. I'm 44 and still don't care, I can't waitGrin
