@Pinkbonbon

Apple/rectangle. But with great fashion taste. That first outfit really making you look like an hourglass.

But to officially be an hourglass you have to be 10 inches less at the waste than you are at the hips and shoulders....minimum. Very difficult to achieve if its not your natural body shape.

Usually the stomach is the last place weight comes off too.

I'm a rectangle body shape too and I'm a 35, 29, 35. I'd have to be 25inch at the waist to be an hourglass and I doubt thatll ever happen haha. But with the right clothes I still look hourglass shaped.

You look good op. Rectangle is a good shape to work with as you're already proportionate.

OK I measured myself.

43, 33, 43 Shock

So guess I am hourglass!

Sorry that's hips, waist, bust. Is that the right measurements?

FunnyTalks · 05/03/2022 20:32

Yep definitely hourglass then! You look fantastic BTW!

Sheeeeeysh · 05/03/2022 21:17

Thankyou.

It's completely alien to me to have compliments on my figure and feel positive about it (clothes at least!) Grin

Hourglass deffo

Pinkbonbon · 06/03/2022 09:52

Ooh awesome, nice one!
Time for a shopping spree then I say!

Pinkbonbon · 06/03/2022 09:54

@Sheeeeeysh

And yeah, hips waist and then technically it's to be round the widest point of your shoulders. Which is a bugger to measure xD
VerityPJohnson · 06/03/2022 10:03

I thought you could be both an Apple/Pear and something else.

Apple and Pear, as the two basic body types, are used a lot to describe how you carry your weight, does it go round your middle (much worse for your health) or round your bum and hips.

In my mind you can then be something else too, eg I am an Apple and an Inverted Triangle or Strawberry.

Sheeeeeysh · 06/03/2022 10:17

I've never even heard of strawberry as a shape!

I do still have a lot of tummy weight but not finished my journey yet so fingers crossed alot of that will go.

Definitely hourglass, beautifully curvy! I've never had a defined waist at any size. I think Im going to self identify as a potato lol

EdenFlower · 06/03/2022 10:52

I'd say you were a narrow hourglass- there is a proper name for it but I can't remember it, where basically you have an hourglass shape with balanced shoulders and hips but the waist is not as narrow.

TheMarzipanDildo · 06/03/2022 10:56

I don’t think the 10 inch thing is a hard rule, actually

BlackCoffeeInAPoolOfSunshine · 06/03/2022 11:07

I'm pretty sure an apple is waist less than 10 inches smaller than hips not waist bigger than hips! Apples usually have big breasts and slim legs and not much of a bum - its not just about a big tummy. An apple is often a bigger on the top half than bottom half clothes size wise.

A pear has bigger hips than bust (usually a fairly small top half and a bigger clothes size on the bottom half than top) and smaller waist than both, and big thighs.

An hour glass is the same clothes size top and bottom and has a difference of more than ten inches between hips and waist - also between cheast and waist.

DaisyBD · 06/03/2022 11:08

no I don't think it can be. Someone whose measurements are (eg) 34 24 34 is going to have a much more defined waist to bust/hips than someone who is 54 44 54. I'm not convinced these definitions for body types are all that helpful, to be honest, we all carry weight differently and have different frames and muscle tone.

Congrats on the weight loss OP, and enjoy all the new clothes Smile.

BlackCoffeeInAPoolOfSunshine · 06/03/2022 11:10

Yep that's an hourglass then Sheeeeeysh - you look lovely Grin but of course there isn't only one body type that looks lovely - as you say if you dress for your shape all the natural body shapes can look great.

DouglasCrood · 06/03/2022 11:12

You look the same as me which is an apple with a waist! It isn't a tiny waist, but I clearly have one. I think of myself as a mild apple. I have big hips, but not much of a bum and slim thighs.

Fwiw, when I've posted pics on here in the past people have said I'm not an apple and am an hourglass, but I don't think that's true. Not all apples are completely up and down with no waist

DouglasCrood · 06/03/2022 11:13

Also the online calculators call my an hourglass! But I'm confident I'm not due to skinny legs and lack of bum

LightsoftheNorth · 06/03/2022 11:17

I think you look fab OP, what a transformation.

I'm 🤦‍♀️ at all these you have to be 10" smaller on your waist to be an hourglass 'officially'. It was probably some man sitting in his office who licked the end of his pencil and wrote this down as yet another way of pushing women into being hung up about their shape. There's none of this nonsense for men.

Sheeeeeysh · 06/03/2022 11:17

Yea that's me too. Tiny legs and flat as a pancake on the back. I really need the gym 😂😭

BlackCoffeeInAPoolOfSunshine · 06/03/2022 11:18

LightsoftheNorth its a patern makers thing - we learnt it in textiles at school 97 million years ago for patern making.

BlackCoffeeInAPoolOfSunshine · 06/03/2022 11:25

Also its surely better to accept that there are basic shapes - if you are an apple you can love that and not try to become an hourglass because short of surgery you can't acquire the curvey bum and hips - any more than a pear can acquire an hourglass figure on the top half. A round apple can become a slim apple but can't become a pear...

I'm an apple even though I currently have a 30 inch waist - I have 39 inch hips. I'm definitely not an hourglass- I'm also bigger on the top and have a small bum and muscular but slim legs - that's an apple. Its not a bad or a good thing, it just helps me know what will fit me!

DouglasCrood · 06/03/2022 11:30

I agree @BlackCoffeeInAPoolOfSunshine. Instead of fighting tooth and nail to make it so that someone is an hourglass, we could recognise that apples can still look great. We can actually and we don't all have waists bigger than hips and boobs Hmm. I think if you looked at my torso you'd say hourglass, but when you consider my legs and bum I'm definitely not. And I'm actually really glad as my legs do stay toned. I probably won't lose that when I'm older, but tummy tone I possibly would. So although it wouldn't be my first choice of body shape if I'd had a choice, I can recognise that there are plus sides to my shape. People arguing against op being apple as if they're defending her are inadvertently insulting apple shapes 😂

DouglasCrood · 06/03/2022 11:31

team apple forevaaaaaah!

Sheeeeeysh · 06/03/2022 11:36

Oh dear :( Really don't want to turn this into a negative thread.

I was just happy with the fact I've not had a waist in 15 years and now I do.

I was very unhappy last year, not because I was an apple but because I was morbidly obese!

Apples can be a healthy weight an d look fantastic

I am happy people said hourglass because that's always been my dream shape and I thought it was unachievable to change shape, but 75lbs is a lot to lose.

I am not trying to body shame anyone or make anyone feel bad baout their shape.

I'm still super self conscious of my shape/body and was just trying to figure out how to dress myself now.

Sending love to EVERYONE!!

I'm really being lighthearted about it op, so don't worry! I don't feel attacked at all.

I do think there is a lot of ignorance about apple shapes though, which is why people used to see pics of me on here and say I wasn't an apple! But I'm pretty confident I am. Boobs and hips are bigger than my waist but that doesn't make me an hourglass without the legs and bum. But as I say, I'm actually quite happy with my apple shape 🤷‍♀️. It isn't an insult to be called an apple
