Holiday booked! The dreaded swimwear shop .........

Finally booked a holiday for this summer!
I'm mid 40's, size 16 with a lower belly and thighs, hoping to loose some weight but not sure it will happen Grin
It's been ages since I bought swimwear, the last place was Asda but they don't appear to have much in the way for my body type
I need some tummy control but nothing too frumpy and definitely a costume rather than a bikini
Don't mind paying a bit for something flattering
Looked at M&S but the reviews aren't great

If you've found this page in search of swimwear that has been tried and tested by fellow Mumsnet users, you might find our guide to the best swimsuits for women useful. Hope this helps! MNHQ

I've always found boden swimwear quite flattering on my size 14/16 frame.

Joyfulflowers · 16/02/2022 12:10

Oh god it's a nightmare isn't it?

I tend to buy from Next or M&S as usually have a good selection and a decent price.

Currently looking for flattering swimsuits with tummy control and without padding in the bra bit, any style I like atm seem to be oos or a wait of several
weeks and we go away in 2 weeks.

Joyfulflowers · 16/02/2022 12:10

Might look at Boden now it's been mentioned

gunnersgold · 16/02/2022 16:41

I wear board shorts over the top as I'm a squishy hourglass it evens me out . I have always found Tesco swimwear good but next sell soo many brands you could order loads and try them .

GeneLovesJezebel · 16/02/2022 16:44

I order a few from Next, their tummy control cossies are good.

DoverWight · 16/02/2022 16:44

Look up Angerella Vintage 50s Pin Up Halter One Piece Swimsuit on Amazon, I have 2 & they're very flattering.

BlondeDogLady · 16/02/2022 17:55

ROTITA are good.

gogohm · 16/02/2022 17:58

Bravissimo if your budget stretches, fig leaves is a good option too

BlondeDogLady · 16/02/2022 18:01

It's just a great swimwear website.

Soontobe60 · 16/02/2022 18:02

I’m 5’ 2”, size 16. I have M+S tankinis and I love them. The ones with a control panel and big bottoms!

YoBeaches · 16/02/2022 18:03

Try Pour Moi too and there's an other one I found recently I'll try and find the link....

TomAllenWife · 16/02/2022 18:05

Pour Moi at next are excellent. I've bought a few from there over the last year and they're excellent
Go up to big boob sizes too (32F for me)

itwasntaparty · 16/02/2022 18:07

Sainsbury's are surprisingly good. The structured Boden ones are so structured they're uncomfy and just look like they're trying to hide my fat tummy and failing. I'm a size 16.

duvetdayforeveryone · 16/02/2022 18:19

I like how M&S swimwear has ruching on the stomach area.

Peachy7 · 16/02/2022 18:26

Primark actually have a couple of lovely tummy control ones in at the moment that are pretty supportive.

IamChipmunk · 16/02/2022 18:31

I've just had the same dilemma!!

Ive ordered some bits from boden that seem to be ok. Just waiting for the next lot to come to see if sizing up looks better!
I prefer a tankini as im bigger on the bottom than the top.

beachcitygirl · 16/02/2022 18:31

I have two from bravissimo. Pricey but worth it, a tankini and a swimsuit! Hold you in and push you out in all the right spots

coldfeetmama · 16/02/2022 18:41

I got one from Amazon .. sooo flattering
I love it would buy another but am trying to lose weight so holding off
Let me try to upload pic , I'm not very good at this bit

coldfeetmama · 16/02/2022 18:43

First try
Honestly very flattering

ClaudiaAndTheCauldron · 16/02/2022 18:50

@coldfeetmama

That swimsuit is lovely 😊
I'm going to order one for myself.
Thank you for the tip!!

coldfeetmama · 16/02/2022 18:52

Dobreva Womens Bandea halter tummy control

Hope you find it , best one I've ever had

ExhaustedMumma · 16/02/2022 18:54

Echo the Boden suggestion. They have just released new swimwear for summer.

I bought a lovely blue/red swimsuit in the sale - halterneck but with a straight top and a ruched tummy panel. Very flattering and holding my 4 months PP c-section belly nicely.

shinynewapple22 · 16/02/2022 18:58

I like Tankinis as you get the coverage of a costume but the convenience of separates when you need the loo. I think Next is good as they stock several makes but in the last have also bought cheaply from Asda and Primark . If your holiday isn't until the summer it's probably best to wait a couple of months until all the new summer stock is in .

Moonface123 · 16/02/2022 19:16

Pour Moi have a great selection, beautiful colours.
Also Amazon.

shewhomustbeEbayed · 16/02/2022 19:17

I bought a Kirkland Miraclesuit off ebay, it is very flattering and lots of control, very expensive if you pay full price elsewhere.
