any other MNers with size 8+ feet?

geekymummy · 31/12/2007 11:58

I wear a size 8 shoe and am often seething when shoe shopping - either the shoe I want is not available in that size or the size 8 is much smaller/narrower than it should be (Dolcis are notorious for this!) And I think Barrat's Tall & Small range is usually rather dire.

So any other big footed MNers, pray tell, where does one find decent shoes?

There is a shop in Bath called After Eight. I don't know if they have an online shop.

lazarou · 31/12/2007 12:02

Sorry, it's After 8 and it looks like they do mail order

Dottydot · 31/12/2007 12:03

Evans! I'm a size 9 - 10 and it's the only shop I can go in. Other than that I get fab bargains from e-bay. my last 2 pairs of work shoes have cost £2 and 99p from e-bay and have been great.

octavia · 31/12/2007 12:23

evans or shoe tailor have a good selection ,actually it does depend on the branch of Evans as they do vary

Jazzicatz · 31/12/2007 12:25

The problem with Evans is the shoes are very wide fitting. I am an 8 in length but have very narrow feet so Evans shoes never fit!

lou33 · 31/12/2007 12:26

my daughter is a size 8, im a 7

WendyWeber · 31/12/2007 12:28

I'm an 8-8½, but I never wear decent shoes

My feet are also broad and have a high instep - makes boots very hard to get into.

I wear trainers a lot

SNOWBall4girlz · 31/12/2007 12:30

I sometimes get a couple of bargains in wyndsors --hush puppies and have got some nice boots from Brantano

I am a sz 9 and have been since I was about 13 always had difficulty getting nice trendy shoes the best pair were boots from red or dead at schhh but were dear even in 1996 lol

jamila169 · 31/12/2007 12:33

I'm a 8.5 -9 and find next do some good stuff, their 8 is a proper 8 and their 9 is a proper 9. Viva la Diva (part of shoe tailor) is pretty impressive as well

geekymummy · 31/12/2007 13:04

thanks ladies!

I'm size 8 and my feet are very narrow. I find that shoes without straps or laces often give me fallen arches because my feet have to 'grip'. Clarks are good - but only the bigger stores. My local one is useless. Drives me mad when I approach the sales assistant with 10 possible shoes - the look in her eye when I ask for size 8. Evans is a good tip - must go and investigate. Also Birkenstock for sandales.

Tickle · 31/12/2007 13:30

I'm a 9, and some of the best shoes I ever bought were Marc O'Polo - bought in the Netherlands, but I can see they have a UK online shop - with a sale on

My dd1 has her mother's feet - she's not quite 9 and a euro size 36 already!

Next are fantastic I buy all my shoes from there.

FlllightAttendant · 31/12/2007 14:04

Am a 7.5 to 8.
Dr Martens are good (I don't do their punk boots you understand, they do other styles!!)

Shelleys not bad...All my boots/shoes are from ebay really so I don't know. Agree that high street shops usually say 8 when it's a 41 and sometimes these don't even fit me, as a 7.5 girl!

kaz33 · 31/12/2007 14:08

Mens trainers

slug · 31/12/2007 17:57

I'm size 7-8 and very wide with problem feet due to too many bicycle accidents and running a triatholon on an injury. I can't wear heels and need supported shoes with straps!

I have had success with:
Red or Dead - though only in the sales
Dr Martins
Ecco
Timberland - especially their boots which even go over my huge calfs.

I sometimes find trying the smaller size in Evans helps with the whole "too wide" issue - I even have a pair of shoes in a 6 from there (well, soft boots) Next go up to a 9 often, and they are easier to get from the Directory. I have bought from La Redoute, Debenhams (depends upon the style there)and the Littlewoods catalogue.

Nice to know there are people with big old feet out there as well as me!

So good I told you twice!

FairyFay · 31/12/2007 19:02

Oh wow, so many people who know my 'pain'. I'm a size 9 (43) and find it really hard. whever I find shoes that fit and are comfy I usually buy them in at least two colours

NotQuiteCockney · 31/12/2007 19:14

M+S are ok. I'm a 9, but seem to fit into an 8 in M+S . Then again, their clothing sizes are messed up, too.

The other shop I've found that's great is the Natural Shoe Store, in Covent Garden.

accessorizemybaublessanta · 31/12/2007 20:06

Debenhams and House of Fraser both stock Easy Spirit shoes and they do a 10W which seems to translate to a 43 or a 9. They're not too wide either nor too expensive (tho a bit plain). They're american I think thus the odd sizing.

Off to follow up the rest as I have really struggled to buy shoes all year!

PussInBootsWithClaws · 31/12/2007 20:16

I'm a size 9 and wide and have impossible problems with finding nice shoes.

Next can be good but never seem to have much in stock.

Had some successes with Evans but I have problems with their knee high boots, look very nice but always way, way to big on the calves.

One place that I have had some success on is Brantano, the range varies greatly but on a good day they can have quite a selection.

LadyOfTheHollyAndTheIvy · 31/12/2007 20:23

Am size 8 and just go nuts trying everything on in Brantano!

Tend to just start at one end, trying everything on till I narrow it down to the 3 or 4 pairs that fit nicely.

arfishy · 31/12/2007 20:54

I'm a 9 and always get mine in Next. Now I'm in Australia the only place I've found is Target but the shoes are very low quality and don't last very long.
