any other MNers with size 8+ feet?

I wear a size 8 shoe and am often seething when shoe shopping - either the shoe I want is not available in that size or the size 8 is much smaller/narrower than it should be (Dolcis are notorious for this!) And I think Barrat's Tall & Small range is usually rather dire.

So any other big footed MNers, pray tell, where does one find decent shoes?

I love this thread. Am going to keep it as a support nexttime I go shoe shopping and am made to feel like a freak!

FairyFay · 01/01/2008 13:55

btw, After 8 also now have a shop in Kingston-upon-thames, and their sale starts tomorrow

Mamazon · 01/01/2008 13:59

wow im a 9 too and am always whinging about shoe's.

im pleasantly surprised at how many large footed Mners we have.
oh i feel much less of a freak lol

i get my shoes from either Evans (yes also have teh too wide issue) barrats, although for some reason i often need to get a 10 as tehy come up a little small, used to go to Dolcis but i find they sell less and less in teh larger sizes and are always small. Next also sell 9's but again its a bit hit and miss, the more casual shoes are fine but if you want anything with a heel they seem tight.

Nightynight · 01/01/2008 14:24

Im a 9 too.

C&A in germany do large sizes up to 45, I think. Also, I have been told that Gabor do, but havent checked them out yet.

Nightynight · 01/01/2008 14:25

I am currently wearing a pair of men's snowboots, plain black suede, sheepskin lined from Bally, that I bought 2nd hand. They are soooo warm.

geekymummy · 01/01/2008 15:29

Oh I hate how some shoe shop assistants look at me as if I was some freak just because I want a size 8, 8.5 or - gasp - a 9.

Now I'm looking forward to getting some good shoes this year! I'm bored with wearing trainers all the time and I need decent shoes for work

I often wear mens shoes. I have wide feet, size 8-9 and find Evans is the only place on the High Street.

VirginiaWoolf · 01/01/2008 15:47

I'm an 8 or 9 depending on the brand/design. Have some nice Josef Seibel shoes - a local independent shoe shop (Norwich) carry loads in 8, some in 9 and will order 9s if they can. The 8 is usually generous. I find that Hush Puppies' 8 is generous too.
Re: Brantano - I noticed that they had lots of size 9s, in completely different (and hideous) styles to the other sizes - apparently they cater for the transvestite market!!!

accessorizemybaublessanta · 01/01/2008 19:53

These hints are really useful, I was just looking at the Josef Seibel section on shoesdirect and they have some nice boots in a 42, wondered if they'd fit!

Nightynight · 01/01/2008 23:03

lol Virginia - thank goodness for transvestites if they create the market for big size sexy shoes!
Otherwise the mfrs would assume taht we all wanted sensible shoes the whole time.

RibenaBerry · 02/01/2008 13:36

I am an 8 with narrow feet and a high instep. I go for Jones. A bit on the pricey side, but they fit...

Certain shops were totally blacklisted by me for never having a size 8 in stock. Ravel (are they still going?) were prime offenders at this.

Next and pretty good for work shoes, if you have the sort of job that needs a steady supply of court shoes (as I do).

geekymummy · 02/01/2008 14:50

I really don't understand why shops should have such poor stocks of size 8 or 9 women's shoes.

I'm with you on blacklisting some shoe shops! Especially when there are sales, you go to the rear of the shop to the size 8 row and there's some seriously ugly shoes there...

I too have large feet, for pointy shoes I definetly need a 9 (usually from next), although i have a pair of hush puppies in size 7.
I did get a pair of size 8's from new look yesterday, sometimes i can get something in there that fits me, but really depends on the style.
Sizing is so different in different shops, even Clarks size 8's are not long enough usually.

accessorizemybaublessanta · 05/01/2008 22:02

I've just noticed that Amazon are now selling shoes and they have some 9s and 10s (including Hush Puppies). They're selling for Schuh and Cloggs and others, it's really good!

chonky · 05/01/2008 22:05

I'm a 7-8. My problem is getting knee high boots that are long enough - they end up being calf-length boots. Vair nice .

Try Long Tall Sally, they have a good range of 8+ shoes. Only problem is that the assumption that tall/ larger footed women will not want to wear heels, so they tend to be flats or small kitten heels.

geekymummy · 07/01/2008 15:25

Lots of different shops recommended on this thread Big footed MNers unite!

I went to Evans today to get some shoes for going back to work, I was so happy! I found a nice pair of boots, I could hardly believe that my toes had lots of wiggle room. Bliss!

2008 is the year where I will have more than 2 pairs of decent shoes!
