Does anyone have experience selling on these platforms. Got quite a few barely worn or unworn clothes (good quality but nothing hugely expensive), some baby clothes, and a couple of brand new electrical items.

Which would you recommend using? Thanks 😊

I've been buying loads on Vinted recently and I'm finding it brilliant as a buyer.

Have had no issues. I plan to start selling stuff on it soon too

MrsDThaskala · 26/02/2022 08:16

Thanks all.

I managed to take my 3 items to be shipped. Yey---first time! I saw the man scan all three packages and I placed them on top of each other in the basket. He gave me one receipt thing.

I've had notification from
Vinted that one item has been shipped. Got a notification at 1am.

Wouldn't all three gone out at the same time? Do I need to trust they will go at some point?
If there's a problem for example it's not Small but Medium and I advertised small, will they let me know?

(Took advice from here and wrapped in supermarket bag, but did it nicely so now think maybe it's too big Grin)

Thanks for the advice so far- only because it's my first time.

MrsDThaskala · 26/02/2022 08:16

Oh and I took photos of the packages to show I was sending them. Another good tip- thank you.

@itsnotdeep

I'm about to start selling too (have just curated my closet...), but am tempted to go for Ebay rather than Vinted - am put off by all the stories of people not selling or just selling for peanuts.

But on New Look Ebay, how do I avoid actually making a loss after the fees and the postage costs have been taken into account? I have higher end high street to sell plus a few Ganni type labels.

Standard fees are 12.8% plus 30p

Short answer is:

  1. work out how much you want to end up with
  2. add another 30p
  3. divide by 0.872

Do the calculation for your item taking into account the extra 30p
Also do the calculation for the postage options without adding 30p
Alternatively offer ‘free postage’ but work out the amount you want in your pocket plus the cost it is for you to send

Make sure you check how much it will cost to post the item (ensuring you take into account the cost of packaging if you aren’t recycling boxes & bubble wrap) and remember to take into account the weight and size of the whole package to ensure you don’t get caught out by going up a size or weight threshold

Standard fees are 12.8% plus 30p
But don’t work out how much you want to make and add 12.8% as they take a percentage of what you’re added on.

Make a spreadsheet if possible to confirm what you would end up with

Eg you want to end up with £10 taking into account postage & packing and the amount to be left in your pocket
So you begin with £10.30 allowing for the ‘plus 30p’

Then you need to work out what 12.8% will mean - it’s not 12.8% of £10.30
You are going to end up with 87.2% after 12.8% is taken
Divide £10.30 by 0.872=£11.81

Double check that
12.8% of £11.81 is £1.51168
£11.81 - £1.51 is £10.30
Take off the extra 30p and you have £10

(As long as it rounds down, if they charge an extra penny then you’re left with £9.99

Hi again.

Hope everyone's selling is going well. I've been happy with Vinted so far but I have a question for you.

I've just sold an item. Messaged the lady to say that I'm on holiday but will send when I'm back. She said that was fine. But Vinted are going through the usual routine and I'm worried if I don't 'send' item or if I click that I've sent and she 'doesn't pay' the order will get cancelled.

Communication has been great so seller knows and I've only just found the Holiday Mode.

Do you know what will happen if I don't send the item- or if I click on sent even though I haven't?

Forevergold2838 · 16/04/2022 04:25

MrsDThaskala contact vinted about it, there's a report button somewhere. If it does continue to go through then you're right, the sale will get cancelled. In that case you'll have to relist the item and just hope the buyer comes back and buys it again when you're back off holiday. If they've already paid they'll get a refund.

Have you had any more luck selling on Vinted @Puppylucky ? I find myself regularly buying things listed months and months ago so it can take a while. I sat down to breakfast in my favourite skirt yesterday and my sister asked if I had it in any other colours. 10 minutes later, courtesy of Vinted I found and bought one that had been listed 5 months ago.Just have to hope they didnt get rid of it some other way since then…

As a buyer I often search by material (modal, linen etc) and style rather than brand and really appreciate detail on waist size and length given how much brands’ sizing varies.

Reflectiveshine322 · 16/04/2022 07:05

Has anyone noticed that they've changed the search function? You used to be able to search for 'all' in trousers (for example), not you have to select the specific sub category eg.harem. I tend to search by brand so its a faff having to go through every category for a certain brand. I dont know if I'm now doing it wrong?

1frenchfoodie · 16/04/2022 08:40

If you are talking Vinted @Reflectiveshine322 there is an ‘all’ option at the top of the category lists so you can still look at all trousers (or skirts etc) - but you often have to scroll back up to it.

Reflectiveshine322 · 16/04/2022 08:59

frenchfoodie thankyou, I'm struggling to find it, would you be able to screen shot it for me please? This is how I see it

I’ve tried and failed to do a screenshop on my ancient tablet. But my list of coats is exactly the same except (crucially) it has an extra ‘all’ category at the top. It may be the site works differently on a mobile if that is what you are using, I’ve only used on a tablet. Is it any better if you use ‘hush’ / other brand as the search term and then click ‘women’, ‘clothes’, then category ‘coats and jackets’, ‘coats’’ from the blue category labels that appear above the first items rather than using the drop down menus? For me that then brings up the sub category labels but if I dont use them I am searching all coats.

Sorry not to be more help @Reflectiveshine322

Reflectiveshine322 · 16/04/2022 09:38

frenchfoodie that's OK, thanks very much for trying. I'm using the mobile app so yes, it might be different. I try the other way you've suggested. Thankyou.
