Depop/Vinted/eBay?

Does anyone have experience selling on these platforms. Got quite a few barely worn or unworn clothes (good quality but nothing hugely expensive), some baby clothes, and a couple of brand new electrical items.

Which would you recommend using? Thanks 😊

eBay, definitely!

Only sell on 'buy it now' though. I don't recommend auctioning things

interferingma · 01/02/2022 12:43

Have use all platforms, and for me Vinted is the best.

EllaPaella · 01/02/2022 15:55

I much prefer Vinted as well. Far fewer time wasters and less hidden costs. Tracking is excellent and if there is any dispute it's quick and easy to resolve.

anine · 01/02/2022 17:16

@EllaPaella there are no hidden costs on EBay. I run an EBay business and have never come across any.

EllaPaella · 01/02/2022 17:29

Well you have fees to pay when you sell things. Don't get that on vinted. Maybe hidden was the wrong word.

Chishnfips · 01/02/2022 19:58

Vinted is my choice these days both as a buyer and a seller. Its just easier to list at the set price and the tracking is brilliant.

Itsabeautifuldaytosavelives123 · 01/02/2022 20:00

eBay seems to take a lot of fees these days, but maybe that's as they're not with PayPal anymore. Buy it now is best as well, I listed a pair of designer jeans for 99p, they sold for 99p and I got 50p back - that's the risk of auction sites.

anine · 01/02/2022 20:17

eBay take 12% in total. There are no longer PayPal fees to consider. No costs are hidden. There are no listing fees for private sellers.

It depends upon the item you're selling. If it's an expensive branded item that you want a high price for then EBay is far better even with having to pay fees. eBay has far more users worldwide than the other two selling platforms.

Puppylucky · 01/02/2022 20:20

I would love to sell on Vinted but I can't get any one to actually make an offer! I've tried following people who favourite and starting a conversation about what they are prepared to offer but zilch. Where am I going wrong?!

Appalonia · 01/02/2022 20:23

Does anyone list their items on both EBay and Vinted, to double your chances of selling?

lunepremiere79 · 01/02/2022 21:36

Following.. Also not much luck selling on Vinted - certain brands seem to be snapped up quite quickly, everything else is favorited but nobody is actually interested in buying

BeefSupreme · 01/02/2022 21:47

I don't like depop. They take 10% fee and they've started doing a new payment system where it can take up to 10 days for your payment to appear in your bank account. It's a PIA. You used to get the money right away.

Bessica · 01/02/2022 21:50

I have started using Vinted. No fees, the buyer pays for postage and it’s all tracked.

Daisy829 · 01/02/2022 21:52

Vinted for me but if stuff doesn’t sell on there I go to eBay as it has a larger audience but the fees are really annoying.

Indecisive29 · 02/02/2022 08:12

Thanks all 😊 I’ll set up a Vinted account today and have a go!

Hi. New to Vinted and just sold something this morning. Can anyone explain a few things:

  1. I simply wrap the item and print the shipping label and attach?
  2. Take it to the nearest Hermes place- someone mentioned they print labels there too?
  3. What happens if it doesn't fit them or they don't like it?
Winederlust · 25/02/2022 08:11

I'm in the same position MrsD. Just sold my first item and buyer's paid for Hermes. Can't get to a printer until next Wed so was hoping I could print at shop but the Hermes website suggests you need a QR code. Confused

Vinted does seem really straightforward compared to eBay other than that though!

MrsStrongman · 25/02/2022 08:12

@MrsDThaskala

  1. Yeh, package item, attach printed label (don't put any tape over the barcode).
  2. They don't print vinted labels, you have to print vinted labels from the psd you get sent.
  3. If they aren't happy when it arrives they can say within your chat. I'm not sure what actually happens though as I've not had anyone ask for a refund or anything yet.
MrsStrongman · 25/02/2022 08:13

@Winederlust you have 5 days to post it out, I often will print at the library. Costs about 20p per sheet of paper so if you have multiple labels to print try and get them on one sheet.

MrsStrongman · 25/02/2022 08:14

Also if you don't want to offer a particular postage option you can go into your settings and deselect any you don't want to offer.

Winederlust · 25/02/2022 08:17

Thanks @MrsStrongman, the buyer will just have to wait until Wed then! Is there anyway of restricting postage options to just Royal Mail?
(Sorry for thread derail but it may help you decide which to use OP!)

Winederlust · 25/02/2022 08:17

Cross Post...thanks Smile

MrsDThaskala · 25/02/2022 08:19

Thank you!

Do I pay anything at the shop it's getting posted from?

MrsStrongman · 25/02/2022 08:20

No, if using Hermes the buyer has bought the shipping label. So you just hand it over, they scan it & give you a little slip with a barcode on that you can track it with.

itsnotdeep · 25/02/2022 10:16

I'm about to start selling too (have just curated my closet...), but am tempted to go for Ebay rather than Vinted - am put off by all the stories of people not selling or just selling for peanuts.

But on New Look Ebay, how do I avoid actually making a loss after the fees and the postage costs have been taken into account? I have higher end high street to sell plus a few Ganni type labels.
