What to wear to a wedding with this dress?

My nephew is getting married at the end of March and I am thinking of wearing this dress:

www.fatface.com/women/clothing/dresses/eloise-speckle-dress/5052752606158.html

Any ideas of what to wear with it, considering it will likely be quite cold...I am a size 22 with chunky ankles Blush

Hi @Bedbouncer, we're just giving your thread a bump in case anyone's around to help! Smile

dudsville · 24/01/2022 17:28

I'm not one of the fashionistas, and I'm of an age that makes me suggest you wear something warmer! Someone will be along soon with actual help.

Bunce1 · 24/01/2022 17:31

I’d say that it’s quite wintery looking, for a spring wedding.

I would go for a lighter and brighter colour?

DawnMumsnet · 24/01/2022 17:32

By the way, OP, we've just noticed that the dress is now half price and that there's only one left in your size, so if you're going to buy it, you'd better get your skates on!

*We wouldn't recommend you wear skates with the dress, though. Well, not for a wedding... Grin

I think it’s gorgeous! I like the tights and boots look too. A short faux fur?

ChirpyChirp · 24/01/2022 17:34

I think it's lovely! I'd wear with ankle boots and nude tights. I'd just wear a smart ish coat to get to and from the venue - I doubt you'll need anything else?

Mackmama · 24/01/2022 17:34

What about bare legs (or whisper…nude tights!) with beige or cream ankle boots and cream bag and fascinator?

End of March is still freezing in some parts!

I'd go for opaques, some sort of black heel, gold bangles and something a little gold and sparkly in your hair.

Is is a wedding in a Church / Registry Office, with outside photos and then moving to the Reception, or is it all in one venue, with ceremony and Reception not needing you to go outdoors ?

twoastars · 24/01/2022 17:48

I love it. I'd go for opaque black tights, heeled boots and a blazer

SchoolFraud · 24/01/2022 17:53

Oh it's lovely. Wish I'd seen it sooner! Sorry, no help...

Mackmama · 24/01/2022 17:55

Actually I like the sound of opaque tights and black heeled boots better. I do like the dress OP Smile

HerRoyalHappiness · 24/01/2022 17:57

It's lovely. Nude tights, black boots and some gold jewellery will really compliment it.

LethargicActress · 24/01/2022 17:58

End of March is likely to still be freezing! I’d style it like it is in the picture, black tights and nice boots. Vest underneath so you don’t need anything other than a coat. Nude tights if it’s warm enough.

Lovely dress.

I would wear with pretty black ankle boots, bare legs or sheer black tights, one of those padded headbands in lieu of a hat/fascinator, and a boxy black clutch bag. You could switch out to classic heels if you feel that wouldn't be smart enough.

Quitelikeacatslife · 24/01/2022 18:35

I'm also size 22 and those people suggesting nude tights or bare legs made me 😆 thick black tights and ankle boots great or leggings and very chunky sandals. It's nice but I would prefer something longer there are some crazy bargains in monsoon at the mo.

Leslienope · 24/01/2022 18:54

Yeah def not nude tights if you have chunky ankles! I think black tights and maybe even black heels to lengthen your leg? You could probably get away with just a coat on top?

Bedbouncer · 24/01/2022 19:25

Thanks everyone! I have already bought it (because it was in the sale) - it arrived this morning, & I thought - Ooh... that might be good for the wedding - but what shall I wear with it??? I am veering toward dark tights (navy or black), not nude or bare legs.. I don't have the legs for that. It is quite flimsy though and the wedding is in a village hall, so I don't know how warm it will be Confused Would a nice cardigan be very terrible?

Biker jacket

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 24/01/2022 21:02

I don't think you could get away with a cardigan. It's already on the slightly more casual side for a wedding (but not too casual), so a cardigan would tip it further that way

I'm sure the village hall won't be that cold once it's full of people dancing!

Imabouttoexplode · 24/01/2022 21:09

Like this.

What to wear to a wedding with this dress?
Concestor · 24/01/2022 22:05

I'd wear a thin long sleeved top underneath for warmth, black tights, and any kind of black heel.

ZaZathecat · 24/01/2022 22:27

I think it would look nice with an off-white, knee-length coat - something like this www.ohpolly.com/keep-me-close-knee-length-double-breasted-coat-in-ivory

Scbchl · 24/01/2022 22:30

I don't think a biker jacket is appropriate for a wedding. Far too casual
