Do people wear necklaces to bed?

Hi, quick one: do you wear necklace to bed? I ordered a gorgeous piece from aurum and grey- little gold chain with 2 tiny letters for my kids names. I work from home and with covid I don’t go out anymore so if I only wear it “out” then I won’t wear it at all! And it’s expensive so would love to wear it al the time. What do others do?

Care needs aside - most people are referencing convenience and habit rather than adaptations for care needs. I think that's entirely different.

If you can be bothered to dress yourself and brush your hair every morning I don't understand why you couldn't also be bothered to put a necklace on if you wanted to wear one.

mdh2020 · 18/01/2022 10:17

I was told that you can damage a chain by wearing it to bed so I stopped doing it.

Why does it matter? If it doesn't bother the person?

I wear jewellery every day, at the very least I wear 3 rings, engagement and wedding on left hand, and I rotate a few on the ring finger of right hand.

Most days I also wear a gold necklace, I have 3 I rotate depending on what I am wearing.

I take all jewellery off as soon as I come home, I have a particular place where i leave them and I always know where they are.

My jewellery is very expensive and I would not wear it doing chores or even just relaxing

It takes me seconds to put it on each morning and take it off each night.

I am almost 20 years married and have never misplaced, lost or broken any of my jewellery in that time.

draramallama · 18/01/2022 10:35

I'm not saying it matters, I'm saying I don't understand and asking questions using people's own phrasing so that I might understand.

draramallama · 18/01/2022 10:38

The op was the one saying she couldn't be "bothered" to put a necklace on in the morning. That's why I used that particular word in my comment, because I found the logic curious.

SpiceRat · 18/01/2022 10:43

A toddler is more likely to break a necklace than sleeping in it tbh. I never take necklaces off, they don’t tarnish because they’re cleaned properly every so often, and never broken.

Bluemamma · 18/01/2022 11:09

Cool thanks, ok so when mine arrives it stays on- sorted:).

It’s only a small minimalistic chain with two tiny letters

I sleep with my necklace, earrings and rings on. Some times I forget to take my watch off too. I have never broken any jewellery doing this.

Redglitter · 18/01/2022 11:15

It's never crossed my mind to take my jewellery off at night. I wear a necklace, bracelet & 2 rings. My bracelets only been off twice in 23 years

scooterbear · 18/01/2022 11:17

I have a necklace I wear all the time. It's fiddley to get on and off and I can't be arsed. I've actually had it in solidly for two years now I think which is actually a big grim now I think of it Grin

MedusasBadHairDay · 18/01/2022 11:20

@Bluemamma

Thanks everyone! I do agree it’s best to take it off for the night but honestly with a toddler and a newborn I can’t be bothered to take it off and then put it on every morning. I know it’s just never gonna happen. I did it with my wedding band and engagement ring and ended up not wearing them since covid and working from home :) just couldn’t be bothered every morning.
If I take jewellery off at night I often forget to put it back on in the morning, so easier to just leave it on.

I wear all my jewellery to bed - necklace, 5 bangles and 6 rings

longtompot · 18/01/2022 11:41

My dh bought be a Annie Haak heart chain for Christmas and I have worn it the whole time, apart from one night I think. It's very light and I don't notice I'm wearing it. The other reason I wear it the whole time is it's a bit fiddly to do up and I can't be doing with the faff.

Mercurial123 · 18/01/2022 13:00

No, always remove watch, earrings and necklace.

Aria2015 · 18/01/2022 13:04

I wear a diamond solitaire necklace 24/7. I take all other jewellery off but leave the necklace on. I've always worn a necklace 24/7, never once had one break. I'm far more likely to lose it if I take it off regularly so this feels like the next way to keep it safe and enjoy it.

WhereAreWeNow · 18/01/2022 13:16

I always take jewellery off for bed. I'd be worried about a fine chain breaking or being uncomfortable. Also worth considering that if it's gold plate (which I think auren jewellery is), the plate will wear off with time. Wearing it 24/7 and in the shower etc will speed that process up.

VanillaAndOrange · 18/01/2022 18:15

I don't, but I could see it being doable with a plain chain that is thick enough not to be fragile, and thin enough not to cut into your neck when you lie down. I do always sleep with my wedding and "engagement" ring on, though I used to take my original engagement ring off as it had a more prominent and scratchy stone (this one has a smooth flat stone).

Isabelle70 · 18/01/2022 19:21

I wear my diamond solitaire necklace all the time. It's too much trouble to use the magnifying mirror to see the clasp to do it up!

Karenetta · 18/01/2022 19:24

Aren't you worried about strangulation or decapitation?

Karenetta · 18/01/2022 19:26

😮😮

Literally the furthest worry in my mind
crazyjinglist · 18/01/2022 20:14

I don't understand why you wouldn't just put it on and then take it off at night. It's no more effort than taking clothes or shoes off and putting them on!

FixTheBone · 18/01/2022 20:16

I've been wearing a titanium chain with my wedding ring on for 15 years, no problems at all.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 18/01/2022 20:17

oh no, i get quite claustrophobic if i cant get a necklace off
