Royal style continues!
Thanks to Deftly for the thread title. Let's hope there's more Gucci and Chanel.....fewer coat dresses..,.

She looks good! I see what you mean about the fit around the bust though @hopeishere.

I like what's under the coat and the Jean length and the shoes. But her love of gaudy gold buttons dear god.

Maireas · 27/02/2022 09:02

That's a beautiful blue dress Meghan's wearing. I love her hair like that.
The fit's probably a bit tricky following baby/breastfeeding.

The diplomatic reception that was to be held this week has been postponed due to the ongoing crisis in Ukraine.

Serenster · 27/02/2022 10:28

I think the diplomatic reception had been downgraded from white tie already, hadn’t it? Boo. Understandable on all fronts, though.

Meghan looks lovely in that blue dress - such a gorgeous colour on her, and a flattering shape. I always wonder though whether she and Kate are coincidentally unconsciously influenced by their famous mother in law, or deliberately intend to tip their hat to her style. Because both of them in one weekend made me smile! (Here’s Diana in a very famous one-shouldered blue dress, and attending an English rugby match).
@KillingMeDeftly they are Grin

Just looking at her feet and ankles made me feel chilly - I hate having cold feet, it makes all of me cold and grumpy. I’d have thought boots would be perfect for an afternoon of watching rugby.
My thoughts exactly. Those shoes wouldn't be my go to for a February rugby match!

hopeishere · 27/02/2022 10:52

If Kate wore that because it was similar to Diana then imho it's really naff.

That blue dress on Diana is gorgeous. It's a great colour on both her and Meghan.

Maireas · 27/02/2022 11:11

It's a tricky one for both women, isn't it, the whole "dressing like Diana" thing. It's often the most tenuous link. One shoulder, certain colours or patterns - we could go through the Diana archive and attribute more than is intended.

LadyEloise1 · 27/02/2022 11:36

I think it's unfair to Kate and Meghan highlighting a tenuous link to something Diana wore. .
We all know how cyclical fashion is.
Things come in and out of fashion and then back in again.
Houndstooth, black and white check, tartan, paisley - these patterns are timeless.

Though personally I really dislike houndstooth and paisley prints.

PeekabooAtTheZoo · 27/02/2022 12:10

@SenecaFallsRedux has anyone suggested this one Princess Anne wore? I don't know what it's called but it's understated.

I loved that electric blue dress on Diana back in the day and still love it as it's such a simple style that it hasn't dated at all!

KillingMeDeftly · 27/02/2022 12:53

The matchy-matchy shoes have dated though! I prefer Meghan's silver sandals.

KillingMeDeftly · 27/02/2022 12:54

Hah I just realised that's Will Carling next to Diana in the photo @SenecaFallsRedux posted!!

I don’t think it’s unfair to note resemblances and wonder about them - as I said, I wondered whether it’s unconscious, rather than deliberate.

To take Kate as an example, born in 1982, Diana would have been in her fashion prime when Kate was aged 10-15. And, having lived through that era myself, I know very well how famous she was, how she was on the cover of every magazine, every week. A lot of her “classy, royal style” would doubtless have been consumed by Kate without even realising it. I love houndstooth myself! Maybe that’s Diana’s influence ;-)

KillingMeDeftly · 27/02/2022 13:10

Sorry, it was @Serenster who posted the Diana photos!

Serenster · 27/02/2022 13:23

No worries @KillingMeDeftly - his presence in the photo made me laugh too!

Eaumyword · 27/02/2022 13:55

Nice blue dress on Meghan. Agree about the bust area looking slightly off, but I like the one shoulder/multi hue look.

I do like this one. And Anne is right up there at the top of my list of favorite royals, so, yes, I'll take it! I think that's the Festoon tiara. It was given to Anne as a gift by a shipping company for christening a ship.

Thanks, @PeekabooAtTheZoo

I really like Meghan’s blue dress however , like so many outfits she wears, it doesn’t fit properly!

AdaColeman · 27/02/2022 15:42

That is a lovely dress that Meghan wore to the NAACP awards ceremony, where she & Harry accepted a prize for public service.

The dress is by Christopher John Rogers, the New York designer who has rapidly risen to stratospheric heights, dressing clients including Michelle Obama, Cardi B, Lady Gaga, etc etc!
He loves sharp dramatic shapes and clear vivid colours, so Meghan's dress is very typical of his work, and a snip at £2000.

justasking111 · 27/02/2022 17:38

Colour fantastic on Meghan, style perfect for her height and legs. Like me she's short bodied so things can bunch up a bit. Her sharp tailored blouses suit her well for this reason.

LadyEloise1 · 27/02/2022 19:00

I don't like Diana's hair style in the photo of her in the houndstooth. Who was her stylist at that time I wonder ?

frugalkitty · 27/02/2022 20:50

Was it Sam McKnight? I think he was her poofy-hair hairdresser.

KillingMeDeftly · 27/02/2022 20:57

Yes I think it was Sam. A hairdresser friend of mine knows him but apparently he's very discreet and never shares any Diana gossip. What a spoilsport!! Wink
