Anyone taken a look at the Boden New Season?

I must be missing something, it’s full of things like this interesting jumper:

www.boden.co.uk/en-gb/margot-cashmere-jumper-chalky-pink-scenic-meadow/sty-k0491-chk?cat=C1_S2_G360

Who is paying £150 for novelty cashmere?

I was just having a browse. There is nothing, literally nothing that caught my eye at all. It's even frillier and more patterned than last season and that's saying something.

NearlyAHoarder · 04/01/2022 18:31

this caught my eyes for the wrong reasons!

I like the second and third designs, the first one looks like a child's jumper. I wouldn't pay £150 for any of them though!

midsomermurderess · 04/01/2022 18:42

There are some very bold prints on offer.

Marcipex · 04/01/2022 18:50

I like the third option cashmere jumper with the floral print, and I like the tiered maxi skirt.

ToManderleyAgain · 04/01/2022 20:44

And beware anything with “fluffy” in its name - this appears to be code now for ‘composition is mostly acrylic/polyamide’.

I remember when Boden used to do genuinely lovely knitwear…

TerribleCustomerCervix · 04/01/2022 20:54

Yes, @ToManderleyAgain, I’m a recent customer- given up on the high street now I’ve hit my mid thirties.

But there seems to be a massive lack of decent, versatile basics?

Specifically at Boden, or did you mean more widely? I used to buy most of my basics at Boden and although I still get the odd thing I’ve mostly stopped doing so now. I’ve found that Baukjen makes good quality jersey if you are looking for tops that wash really well. For knitwear I have had good experiences buying from Olive (similar price point to Boden) but I can’t think of anywhere else on the mid-range high street that’s consistently good for knitwear. I did buy a plain Boden cashmere jumper last year which does the job (although the quality is poorer compared to Boden of old). It seems that Boden are missing a trick by not focusing on just doing that sort of thing well, e.g. nice basic knitwear in a good range of colours.

Midlifeponderer · 04/01/2022 21:38

I had a look at their website tonight and genuinely came on here to see if anyone had commented. I don’t know what’s happening with Boden at the moment, I can’t find a single thing I like. It was the same last season, all really long dresses that looked like they’d been made from floral curtains and bizarre knitwear!

They used to do lovely jumpers in strong colours and some really nice jersey stretch dresses that sat above the knee. I bought several in nice colours (no pattern) but anything vaguely wearable has vanished.

TerribleCustomerCervix · 04/01/2022 23:17

Yes!!!!

I also find it bizarre that they haven’t followed other retailers in offering more lounge wear or stuff that is comfy but presentable for working from home in.

Who on earth is buying those flouncy midi dresses and silk shirts at any stage over the last two years?

Yikes!

Having said that, I bought this Boden skirt on the back of a thread like this... Blush

KendallRoysRabbit · 04/01/2022 23:22

I thought the same - I usually buy a lot from Boden and enjoy the bold colours and patterns but those prints are all hideous Confused

GuidingSpirit · 04/01/2022 23:33

I haven't bought anything from boden for the last 18months due to being pregnant / not wanting to buy loads of bigger stuff (dont get me started on the fact they don't have a proper maternity range given their target audience Hmm) but not only is this stuff all awful in its design but its insanely priced! £150 for a kaftan I'd wear to the beach!! You must be joking. And where have all the ottoman dresses in plain colours gone? They were brilliant for work and didnt need ironing, which was a big plus for me.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 04/01/2022 23:37

Love the prints.

Very Double J.

GettingStuffed · 05/01/2022 00:03

That jumper is much nicer in back and white/cream. There's plenty of good stuff as some of the sacked items come in simpler colours. There's a shirt in a similar design to the design to the jumper in OK but it also comes in plain pale blue and white or a rather cute embroidered one.

I also like some of the louder items but that may be because I was born mid sixties so lived through the early seventies and it's wild fashions

Exactly this re La Double J. Can't wear that sort of thing myself but it's clearly what they're going for.

Whether their core customer will put up with it or not, only Mumsnet time will tell...

KiloWhat · 05/01/2022 06:49

I like the 3rd jumper but not in cashmere!

ToManderleyAgain · 05/01/2022 06:55

Oh yes it is rather, isn’t it?! But presumably that market is much narrower than the one catering for the Boden everywoman who wants some smart/practical basics for work? So why exclude those options?

I’m also getting Wyse vibes from some of the knitwear.

Was meant to quote @ChardonnaysPetDragon about the prints looking Double J.

The countryside pic shirt comes in plain blue or white.

Caramellatteplease · 05/01/2022 07:09

Oh wow I love everything linked!! (Way out of my price bracket) the black and white on the first link in especially fab

Bright happy and cheerful

Madcats · 05/01/2022 07:21

Boden used to be great for office wear and well made separates. Kids stuff was pretty indestructible too.

I don't think I've bought anything for the family from them for 4 or 5 years.
