Anyone taken a look at the Boden New Season?

I must be missing something, it’s full of things like this interesting jumper:

Who is paying £150 for novelty cashmere?

I have just had a look at the New In selection. The bold patterns are truly awful. Who wants to wear something that looks like it has been in a paint factory explosion? I clearly have very conservative tastes Blush

Dogfacepacer · 05/01/2022 08:24

I had never heard of LaDoubleJ, and now OMG my eyes. Whoever their target is, it’s not me.

YourenutsmiLord · 05/01/2022 08:42

Lots of OMG I wouldn't be seen dead in that and what awful styles usually mean they will be mainstream in a few months time.

Hmm... not so sure about that! I had lace collared blouses, dungarees, floral prints and pinstripes in the ‘80s. I didn’t ever wear them all together!

Loafers too! Forgot to mention them!

Boood · 05/01/2022 20:28

I still find the odd thing, but it has definitely lost its way. To be fair there was always the cringey “fun print” quota, but they seem to have stopped bothering with the quality basics.

MrsArcher23 · 05/01/2022 20:28

That last picture has a very Andy Pandy vibe.

Laura Ashley 1981 ‘Andy Pandy’ collection!

It reminds me of this Stella McCartney jumper.

Omg that jumper

headintheproverbial · 05/01/2022 21:41

You've got to worry when the stuff looks shit on the young, thin, pretty models.

PersonaNonGarter · 05/01/2022 22:10

I think bold prints do work quite well on Zoom calls tho.

RayonSunrise · 06/01/2022 10:28

[quote NinaDefoe]Not nice.

I quite like that, actually. I wear a HUGE amount of black, and something that dramatic would actually give a nice punch to my look. I'd been looking for something dramatic/monochrome, but would definitely give that consideration - especially as a transitional piece.

Agree it's very Double J. And not "classic style" at all - I can see why it wouldn't be everyone's cuppa.

Boombastic22 · 06/01/2022 11:11

Catalogue came in post yesterday. Agree entirely, awful. And I used to buy a lot of Boden.

Chocolateteabag · 07/01/2022 12:12

I find I am now wasting my time and Johnnie's money ordering dresses in "Long", only to find that just means they have added a bit to the bottom.
Taller people usually have longer bodies as well as legs - means that the waistline will need to be dropped down.

So frustrating to find a dress that fits everywhere else but has the waist just under your bra line.

It's just corner cutting at the pattern drafting stage - Boden's loss when I have to just keep returning stuff.

MistySkiesAfterRain · 07/01/2022 15:58

Isn't it just what is on trend for Spring?

I like the Boden cotton shirts, the Girlfriend jeans, roll neck bretons. I don't buy anything without at least 10% off or in the sale. I got a lovely summer blouse for £32 down from £65.

MistySkiesAfterRain · 07/01/2022 16:00

I do agree there should be more classic styles of tops. It seems to be a lot of light basics and statement pieces.

eagerlywaitingfor · 07/01/2022 16:07

Some of it looks inspired by the designs on Clarice Cliff and early Susie Cooper pottery. Kind of. And done by 9-year-olds.

Who decides what is "on trend"? If no-one buys them then they won't be "on trend" in spite of fashion designers telling us what we should be buying.

lindyloo57 · 07/01/2022 17:36

I never brought from boden, only a second hand cardigan from ebay, but found out recently that the owner is in favour of hunting with dogs, so won't be buying from them again.

noodlezoodle · 07/01/2022 18:40

These sorts of prints were really popular last year - La Double J and also Farm Rio. I like some of it although some of it is a bit overpowering.

OP have a look at M&S or Uniqlo for decent basics. I know Marks lost their way for a while but they've really upped their game in the last year. I bought a plain cashmere jumper from there before Christmas that is absolutely beautiful.

The one I bought in November has been just the job as well. I agree that M and S have upped their game.

StiggyZardust · 07/01/2022 18:51

I love that coat.

Oh no really? Jonny Something? Mind you I haven’t bought anything off them for a few years, but will make sure I don’t now.
