Help finding products to disguise my crap skin!

My skin has got so old and tired looking after neglecting it a few years ago when my Mum was very poorly then sadly passed away. I just washed my face and went to bed I was so tired. I think the stress of it all ages my too.
I'm 46, but feel my skin belongs to someone much older, I've totally lost my confidence when talking to people. My skin is just so uneven and no matter what make up I use, nothing makes it better.
The picture is of my with foundation and primer on 😰

You've been through a heck of a lot otherside and skin is a barometer of stress .

A really simple routine ( if you're anything like me then you'll know that complex , layering of products and face masks are just not going to get used )

I bought myself an Alpha H set ( liquid gold , cleanser , serum, moisturiser ) It is straight forward and I use it and have seen results . Keeping on searching for The Holy Grail is expensive , time consuming and often disappointing .
Water , rest , healthy diet .

No help on the make-up, I don't wear it myself and I'm in a mask at work (which brings its own issues Hmm )

Have you thought about trying Dermatica? I'm 51 and started Dermatica 8 months ago and my skin looks more healthy than it's ever done! I'd never heard of it until MN. I wish I'd known sooner. It really is amazing for ageing skin.

EssexLioness · 02/01/2022 15:52

I second Dermatica. I have been using it about 6 months and has made a big difference to my skin

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 02/01/2022 15:56

The best thing I've ever found is CeraVe cream.

Neilsfavouritechilli · 02/01/2022 15:58

Another dematica fan here. I've used it for 6 months and my skin is good enough not to need to use foundation anymore.

Fenham · 02/01/2022 16:33

I've found Dermatica great too. It's made a huge difference to my skin, but also has saved so much in time and money.
I know that as it is prescribed the dermatologist is giving great advice, so no stop, start, should I change to something else...and no wasted money on 'trial and error'.

It is also very easy to delay the next delivery. I would say I've missed 4 months over the year as I've not used each months cream up.

Ruthietuthie · 02/01/2022 16:56

In addition to a dermatologist suggested skin-care regime (as other posters have suggested - some retinol would really help you), what about an in-office treatment? I have a "Genius" treatment (it is a combination of laser and micro-needling, done by my dermatologist) four times a year. It REALLY helps with dullness, fine lines and sagging. Really, it is miraculous. You could have two, six weeks apart, and it would really perk you up.
I am so sorry that you have been through such a tough time. My heart goes out to you.

Theothersideofforty · 02/01/2022 17:14

Thanks everyone, I did try skin and me for about 5 months but it didn't seem to do anything for me, I maybe need to persevere abit more.

What do I need to order from Dermatica?! I want skin that needs no foundation too!

borisisaknob · 02/01/2022 17:27

Oh I went through and did the questionnaire and I've ordered cleanser and moisturiser and the prescription stuff.

There is a link for 25% off if anyone wants it x

Neilsfavouritechilli · 02/01/2022 19:08

I did the questionnaire and was prescribed a treatment which has worked well for me. You have to upload pictures which I found a bit embarrassing but the improvement was worth it for me. I didn't buy the the extra bits they sell like cleanser etc. Like a pp I pause it every so often as it lasts longer than a month.

Neilsfavouritechilli · 02/01/2022 19:12

I should add also tried skin and me which I found effective too but I switched to take advantage of an offer. Dematica do review your prescription more frequently but I have been happy with both.

Theothersideofforty · 02/01/2022 19:14

Thanks @borisisaknob , I've just used your referral code and ordered. I did the cleanser and moisturizer too.
I'll give it a go, it's my chin that gets my down. I don't know if it's pores or what they are.

If I were you I'd book myself a microdermabrasion session first then concentrate on decent skincare to maintain your skin thereafter

Theothersideofforty · 02/01/2022 20:35

Thanks I had 6 sessions of microdermabrasion 4 years ago, when I realised how bad my skin looked, it didn't really do anything.

Is the Dermatica expensive ? I've looked at their website but it seems I can't get a price until I fill in the questionnaire and sent photos. Thanks.

MiniCooperLover · 02/01/2022 21:22

I use these, at the moment just the face mask twice a week as my skin was already ok but it's made a huge difference.

missfliss · 02/01/2022 21:27

Also have dermatica- tretinoin and niacinimide- very good indeed.

As well as that I recommend- SPF 50 daily ( non negotiable if any kind of retinol is used). I use the beauty pie one over moisturizer

Acid toning 3 x a week ( pixi glow / alpha h for example)

Hylaurojic acid under day cream ( I use a Superdrug super cheap one)

And...

I've just started using an infrared face mask ( number 7)

missfliss · 02/01/2022 21:28

Oh ... and I forgot to say !

I've found the oestrogen in HRT to be amazing for skin ( I'm 45)

missfliss · 02/01/2022 21:32

Makeup free - not perfect but not bad for 45

@Hello1290 - around £20 per month. As mentioned below, I don't always use a full tube a month and it is so easy to delay the next months dispatch.

Hello1290 · 02/01/2022 23:10

Thank you - I will give it a try I am almost 50 seems like it can help with ageing skin.

Theothersideofforty · 03/01/2022 09:09

@missfliss can you use the toner alongside the prescription?
I definitely think I'm pre menopausal too, as my moods are so up and down, so maybe I need to mention HRT . Thank you

I have recently started to improve my skin. I really recommend reading Caroline Hirons book and there's a group on fb called Caroline Hirons Skincare Freaks which will be a great help to you in making improvements
