Curly girl hairdresser in London...recommendations please

I'm in North London and someone to do a home visit would be ideal although would travel for the right hairdresser

I have loose, fairly fine curls. It's really long as I haven't let anyone near me with a pair of scissors in many years!! But my hair is feeling very lank and frizzy now and I just need a boost. TIA x

Anna at Heads High in Brixton. I won't go to anyone else now!

Puppystress how did it go

puppystress · 10/01/2022 12:17

I didn't make it in the end...I had some complications with my pregnancy (37 weeks, had some bleeding...all was okay in the end, phew) and had to go hospital. So my hair is still long and scraggly. I've had a look at my finances since my non attendance and had a freak out about my maternity pay and decided that now is not the time to spend £100 on a hair cut.

BUT...I now know that 20 mins from my home is a curly girl hairdresser. And when my mum asks me what I want for my birthday in March, I know what I am going to ask for!!

Sorry to ask a silly question, but does anyone know whether having clean, conditioned, untangled, dry hair for their curly haircut means not using styling products? My hair would be a poof of candy floss if I let it dry naturally without its usual curl cream and gel, but I wonder whether that’s what curly hairdressers want to see!

puppystress · 11/01/2022 16:02

Yes from what I read you need to go to the appointment without any product in your hair...scary prospect I know! But they need to see it in its natural state apparently...unless someone comes along and says different??

I was wondering that too, the one I am booked in to says to come with day 2 hair with some leave in conditioner in. I usually have leave in conditioner (actually just normal conditioner with some left in), curl creme stuff & gel! My hair will be a fluffy mess.

wonderspread · 11/01/2022 16:19

Yep, you go as a fluffy mess Grin

It means when you hair is cut you won’t end up with drastically different lengths as your natural curls are being cut. They can also see the condition of your hair, make recommendations etc. Usually they’ll cut first, then wash, dry and style (with various products) so you don’t leave a fluffy mess! They might also do a check post wash to see if anything else needs a little trim. You should ideally be leaving with glossy clumped curls.

Thank you. Glossy sounds good, I don't think I have ever done glossy Grin

wonderspread · 11/01/2022 16:20

(Based on my experience, but I see similar instructions and outcomes for various curly salons)

I know what you mean, it took going to a curly salon to discover that was actually possible for me!

OP, I haven't read the full thread but Emma Toner (emma_lovescurls on Instagram) is great and does home visits, charges £60. I switched to her when I was pregnant in 2020 and couldn't get to my regular guy up in Birmingham (yup, I've been going to Birmingham for ten years for my haircuts 😆). She's been a lifesaver now I have a baby, too!

That is actually very helpful, thank you. Cheaper than going to the salon and I much prefer home visit, especially as baby will be here any day now! Have followed on Instagram and will be getting in touch in next few weeks I'm sure!

There is a Lorraine Massey trained stylist in Letchworth, North Herts (about 30 mins from KX) who is lovely.
Prices are £70/80 ish for a curly cut
