Belted scarf over midi dress - am I stuck in 2016?

Thinking about layering a midi dress with a silky scarf, and belting at the waist to create a bit more warmth for day out for drinks. Would I look like I've emerged from a 2016 time warp or would no one bat an eyelash? Am edging towards wearing it anyway but thought I'd put it out there just in case...

Post a picture maybe?

Something along the lines of this?

The navy dress with green scarf is most like my dress and scarf

It needs the belt or the scarf alone, BUT Not the scarf tucked into belt.

lynntheyresexswappers · 30/12/2021 19:19

I think you need to try it on and post a photo - what it looks like on models who are styled for the photos will be different to how it looks in reality

IamGusFring · 30/12/2021 19:22

This is a thing that I see the odd "professional stylist" post on FB groups but I think it looks a bit trying too hard and the end result is a bit naff imo . It might look great in a posed photo but in reality hmmmm.

MimosaFields · 30/12/2021 22:33

I think that look makes anyone's waist look much thicker. I'm not keen

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 30/12/2021 22:35

I looks very Geography Teacher to me

HelloDulling · 30/12/2021 22:36

I LOVE this look

YoComoManzanas · 30/12/2021 22:38

Oh gosh doesn't it constantly yank your neck down or strangle you?

RaininSummer · 30/12/2021 22:38

Never seen this look before. Still on the fence.

Haus1234 · 30/12/2021 22:39

It doesn’t make me think 2016 but it also doesn’t seem especially warm …

nanbread · 30/12/2021 22:41

Not against the concept but don't think it will add warmth. Better you wear a thin thermal under the dress

Laufeythejust · 30/12/2021 22:41

The tick tockers are putting jumpers on over the top of the belt and tucking it in so it sort of half hangs. My entire life I have been completely baffled by fashion.

Noodleted · 30/12/2021 22:43

That's not a good look. Add a polo neck under the dress for warmth!

Squiz81 · 30/12/2021 22:53

Oh I thought you meant use a scarf as a belt, this looks uncomfortable. Can’t you just wear a thermal vest?

delilabell · 30/12/2021 22:55

I think you'd look marvellous

ThirdElephant · 30/12/2021 22:56

I belted a flowy cardigan into a dress the other day and actually got praised for it by the most fashion-forward woman at work, so it can't be that much of a no-no.

Twinkleylight · 30/12/2021 23:05

Just wear a polo neck jumper underneath the dress. Job done.

Roarsomemore · 30/12/2021 23:08

Thanks all. Still smiling at geography teacher! I worked in a school for years so this is spot on. Grin

Will go ahead and wear it (restrictions allowing...) - I think it looked nice but just wanted to check it wasn't very dated. I'm not brave enough to post a pic sorry to be boring.

I never even knew this was a thing.

Bluntness100 · 30/12/2021 23:14

Personally I think that looks a bit silly and is reminiscent of people tucking their shirts into their knickers 😃

Josette77 · 30/12/2021 23:16

That looks very silly. Why not just wear a scarf arpund your neck for warmth?

mintich · 30/12/2021 23:28

Lydia Millen wears this style quite often and I really like it on her

Roarsomemore · 31/12/2021 09:09

Hadn't heard of Lydia Millen before - wow, love all her outfits! She looks a bit like Liz Hurley to me - but very different dress sense. I'm going to have to stay away from her posts because I can see me wanting it all Confused
