Belted scarf over midi dress - am I stuck in 2016?

Thinking about layering a midi dress with a silky scarf, and belting at the waist to create a bit more warmth for day out for drinks. Would I look like I've emerged from a 2016 time warp or would no one bat an eyelash? Am edging towards wearing it anyway but thought I'd put it out there just in case...

Never seen this look before. It's god-awful.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 31/12/2021 09:16

Very odd. I don't like it, sorry. Just wear a scarf.

bananaboats · 31/12/2021 09:41

I've never seen this before either, agree it looks a bit odd. Would stick to the belt on its own.

@Laufeythejust

The tick tockers are putting jumpers on over the top of the belt and tucking it in so it sort of half hangs. My entire life I have been completely baffled by fashion.
Yes 😂😂😂😂

I’ve never seen this either so it’s not 2016 to me. It would add bulk to the average person. Maybe ok if you’re tall with a long body. I’m small with big boobs and would look daft.

Concestor · 31/12/2021 10:43

I think it's a terrible look. I don't understand why you'd put the scarf under the belt? Why not just let it hang? There's no benefit I can see of tucking it into your belt.

CrispAndFrosty · 31/12/2021 10:46

Never heard of it! Looks fine to me, though. Can imagine it would thicken the waist if the scarf was not thin.

Not sure why the blog author felt the need to associate it with "crazy cat ladies", or why others think of geography teachers. I have no associations with it whatsoever, and am starting to wonder whether I've completely lost touch with fashion!

AngelicaElizaAndPeggy · 31/12/2021 10:47

I think tucking the scarf into your belt sounds hugely practical - no dipping your scarf in soup or having it fly into your face!
I would be a bit worried that I would be strangled but there's probs a knack to it. I never knowing saw this in 2016 but I think you should crack on and rock the look!

itwasntaparty · 31/12/2021 10:58

I've never seen this before so no not 2016 to me, just rather odd

CaffeineAndCrochet · 31/12/2021 11:01

If it suits you, go for it.

ZenNudist · 31/12/2021 11:06

I didn't see that in 2016. Perhaps you are very fashionable and I missed it. It doesn't look dated but really unusual and odd if I saw anyone doing it I would previously have thought it a bit strange. It doesn't look stylish. I agree scarf or belt or if both if the dress had a simple neckline and could take a scarf then scarf worn normally.

Post a pic. Perhaps you look good?

Omicrone · 31/12/2021 11:08

Have never seen this look before? It certainly doesn't say '2016' to me....I'm not keen though tbh.

RowsOfHolly · 31/12/2021 11:16

Won’t the scarf balloon out if you sit down or lean forwards? And only look ok if you stand at the exact right angle? It will pull on your neck and need constant adjustment.

I couldn’t be doing with it.

Is this drinks do in a barn?
