Vaseline!

I've got an Eve Lom one someone kindly put in my stocking last year, but it is hopeless if your lips are really dry.

Vaseline doesnt really work for me, plus I can't stand the stuff. reminds me of a holiday i went on with a friend when i was a teenager. I had a pot of vaseline in the room and she brought a bloke back.....well you can guess the rest.

I use those little round pots of vaseline - they do plain and aloe vera ones. Can't beat the old-fashioned stuff

ceebee74 · 21/12/2007 15:31

Oops - xpost

lazawreath · 21/12/2007 15:31

Is the clinique one good for cracked lips? Mine always bleed, it's horrible.

I use a molton brown one which is nice - its in the men's section. Called a vitamin lipsaver (has vit E and beeswax in it I think).

Gipfeli · 21/12/2007 15:47

I use this one for really serious cases

blistex intesive moisturiser

BaubleMonkey · 21/12/2007 15:51

I have to use lip balm all the time, or else I can't move my lips to talk

Carmex is the best I've found for every day normal moisturising. If my lips are really chapped and sore I use blistex cream (in a little tube). That helps to cool them down while they are healing and you can slather a load of it on while you're in the house alone to help make them feel more comfortable.

for you as I know what a pita problem lips can be.

BaubleMonkey · 21/12/2007 15:52

x-posted Gipfeli. Is that new packaging or is it different to the original cream?

hoxtonchick · 21/12/2007 15:56

dr hauschka my current fave

BellaBear · 21/12/2007 15:59

I've been told off about this (nicely) elsewhere on mn because of the cost, but I tried using Lansinoh (the nipple lanolin cream) and it works a treat on dry cracked lips. Bit pricey though to use as a lip balm.

bahumbugpuss · 21/12/2007 16:00

I like the eve lom one but now the weather is so cold I have found it going a bit solid on my lips. I bought a philosophy one a few weeks ago and that is more slippery and better to apply in the cold. It is also tinted which I like. Carmex the best for really chapped lips though.

lizandlulu · 21/12/2007 16:11

i have recently bought the mac lip conditioning balm and that is really nice. also have the carmex in the round jar, but dont like the smell. the body shop lip butters are nice and smell lovely.
my mum swears by gayle hayman lip lift. she wont leave the house without it.

meemar · 21/12/2007 16:13

There is an aloe vera one by a company called Aloedent - I buy it a health food shop. It's the nicest lip balm I've ever used as it doesn't leave that dried out feeling or go gunky when you reapply it.

JackieNoel · 21/12/2007 16:15

I really like the Liz Earle Superbalm and you can use it on all sorts of other dry bits too.

claireybee · 21/12/2007 16:16

I'm another one who swears by Carmex-its great for everyday moisturising and heals cracked lips really well too. My sister also told me its good for sore noses if you have a cold but I haven't tried that myself yet (I used my Lansinoh )

dingdongmerrilyonFLIER · 21/12/2007 16:16

i got a lovely one as a present, its from clarins and really seems to work.

cornsilk · 21/12/2007 16:20

I use 8 hour cream - it's really good. Put it on ds's lips when they're asleep as well(when they have chapped lips that is). They would go mad if they knew but their lips are lovely!

WatsIsForLifeNotJustForXmas · 21/12/2007 16:23

Best thing for lips is to exfoliate them and then apply any balm. Dont buy a 'product' just use your toothbrush and gently brush your lips. This will take the dead skin off and then when you put the balm on its onto fresh skin cells!!

sockmonkey · 21/12/2007 16:29

Another vote for carmex...it smells so medicinal too

SpawnChorus · 21/12/2007 16:31

Blistex lip conditioner (in a litle pot) is utterly brilliant for seriousy chapped lips.
