Is it my tiny gappy teeth or thin lips?

There is something that makes me very self conscious about my toothy smile.

I always avoid showing any teeth in photos, and all along I have been thinking it is their small size and gaps that are the problem. Now I am wondering if it is actually my thin upper lip?

Does anyone have any solutions?

I am very self conscious about my teeth as my two front teeth are crooked and the two teeth either side go back and I think I look ridiculous when I smile. But my dh tells me I am beautiful and loves my smile. And my eldest boy is 13, he said when I smile he can't help but smile too. Which I thought was lovely and sweet. I still wish I could have braces but I am 34 now and wondering if I would look too old for them. Sigh.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with your lips and teeth. You have a lovely, friendly smile and if I were to walk into a room full of strangers and saw your smile then it would put me at ease.

I wouldn't do this as they need renewing every so often, so OP would be setting herself up for a lifetime of cosmetic dentistry.

I think we’re all becoming accustomed to Hollywood (Turkey) bright white vénèers, and have forgotten what natural normal teeth look like.

Oh gosh OP you look lovely. Hope you can forget these worries and relax.

I think your smile is lovely, but equally from your point of view I suspect it’s the thinner upper lip that is making you more self conscious. Absolutely nothing wrong with it, but with the times we’re in where the trend is to have full, over lined, plump, filled lips I can see how you might feel the way you do.

If you wear makeup a little natural pink gloss with a tiny bit of shimmer in will help your top lip pop out a little more (or you could go x1000 and over like your lips, add a lip plumper ect but that’s for the extreme )

Or you could do nothing because as others have mentioned, your smile is lovely and doesn’t need to be tampered with :)

To make your smile pop and to make yourself happier try a bit of blusher on the apple of your cheeks and a lip liner and a pinky brown nude lipstick and bronzer around the edges of your whole face as it were and then a bit from your temple towards your blusher. Top off with mascara and some taupe eyeshadow on lid.

You have a fantastic smile op. Not just saying it- that’s a really lovely smile. Try to push away the self conscious tricks of the mind. You look great.

Do you have much of a top lip when your mouth is neutral?
My top lip used to disappear like this when I smiled but I trained myself to flatten it (for want of a better word) when I smile for photos now.
Every day laughing and smiling without thinking I still lose my top lip entirely but I prefer when I'm posing for a photo my flatter top lip.

That's a smile that would make me want to come and chat with you if I met you IRL. I've had braces and crowns because I hated my teeth but they were very crooked and full of broken down fillings. Even though I don't regret it, I'd never even consider buggering about with a lovely smile like yours.

Thank you @Normski67 a few years ago I got an at home whitening kit from my dentist (with mouth guards and gel) that I used overnight for 2 weeks and they've stayed white since. Which is a miracle as I drink black coffee everyday !

You have a lovely natural smile and although I can't see your eyes I just know that they will be smiling too.

I'd feel really at ease in your company and would find your smile infectious.
