Is this a complete no no? And if not then which ones, brown suede or black leather?

I think all boots with jeans look quite dated and are quite ageing.

Journeynotdestination · 11/12/2021 17:56

I’d cuff the jeans and wear with heels

CambsAlways · 11/12/2021 18:09

To be honest I don’t like any of the high boots with them, love the second pic, I think ankle boots would look much better, you have a great figure op and the jeans look great

TabithaTiger · 11/12/2021 18:11

Leather look leggings or coated black skinny jeans would work with that top. I would go for either heels or ankle boots.

ArabeI · 11/12/2021 18:16

The darker jeans look better with the top. I don't like either of the boots with the outfit, but agree with the idea of ankle boots, or even shoes.

Sickoffamilydrama · 11/12/2021 18:20

Try no belt with the jeans OP and perhaps brogues might work?
Got any leather joggers/trousers?

beatrixpotterspencil · 11/12/2021 18:39

It certainly isn't considered dated where I am, at least most of the horse/range rover set are still doing the skinnies and boots thing Grin

I also think it depends what else you wear with it - in the country it works and blends in with the rest of your lifestyle/clothes, but perhaps a more urban lifestyle would determine whether the look was 'dated' or not.

One thing though, long boots are absolutely in at the moment, they are turning up everywhere but mostly worn with midi skirts/dresses. Anyone who thinks they are dated in that sense might want to look again!

Which colour also depends on the rest of your wardrobe. If you wear a lot of blues/navy then definitely brown. If you prefer black jeans maybe got with black boots.

beatrixpotterspencil · 11/12/2021 18:39

Maybe everything in the universe is now dated? If you use that as a setpoint we are all safe!

HeronLanyon · 11/12/2021 18:42

Central London here and can report several sightings on young and seemingly ‘with it’ women recently. Has made me assume it s all coming back and regret getting rid of my own knee highs last year in crazy Covid lockdown clear out.

HumourReplacementTherapy · 11/12/2021 18:56

Love your top Smile where's it from?

Lovinglife45 · 11/12/2021 19:06

Jeans and knee high boots are definitely dated.

Opt for ankle boots with this outfit or wear knee high boots with skirts and dresses. I like the hem of my skirts/dresses to fall below the top of my boots.

GrannytoaUnicorn · 11/12/2021 19:25

For goodness sakes, just wear what YOU like! Why are you seeking approval from other people for what you wear?!

"It's a very dated 'look'" HmmHmmHmm Since when were there clothing rules?

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 11/12/2021 19:26

The first look with the leather boots is best - it's not a dated look, that's bollocks, especially if the boots and jeans are very close in colour and you go similar on top half, it looks very chic.

mercimacherie · 11/12/2021 20:25

I'm going for a nice lunch tomorrow and I'm planning on wearing my khaki suede knee high boots with grey skinny jeans, a grey cashmere roll neck sweater with my long single breasted coat over. Similar look to the pic attached.

I also wear knee highs with midi skirts/dresses, jumper dresses, a short leather skirt with a slouchy jumper and skinnies with a long belted cardi over.

They're back in, but a stack heel rather than a stiletto.

@MyView2

I think the first outfit with the brown boots looks best but the jeans should be tighter. Def not the second outfit, the belt doesn't go and the boots with the jeans like that look very dated.

I think the top would look nice with black skinnies at ankle length with heels, or straight leg jeans (just above ankle) with heels, platform sandals or some dressier ankle boots.

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 11/12/2021 20:29

See that looks effortless to me, clean and unfussy.

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 11/12/2021 20:30

Meant to add - yes, love that Grin

Justyouwaitandseeagain · 11/12/2021 20:34

I'd wear the first outfit with the black boots Wink

The brown boots are nice but not sure they go quite so well with the jeans and top

Shimmylikejoanholloway · 11/12/2021 20:35

This thread is making me realise that I don’t know anything about fashion anymore and as a result, am entirely unfashionable.

OnlyHereForTheClothes · 11/12/2021 20:43

Agree the jeans look a bit too baggy and maybe a bit too long?

SovietSpy · 11/12/2021 20:44

I think the outfit is cutting you in half OP. The jeans need to be higher waisted with the top tucked in to make this more flattering and create the 1/3 vs 2/3rd proportions of dressing that look aesthetic.

I think the top would look cool with some black high waisted straight leg or slightly wider leg trousers that would elongate your legs further. You have a nice figure and don’t think the current look makes the most of it.

mercimacherie · 11/12/2021 20:49

@MyView2

As @SovietSpy mentioned I think your top would look great with some slightly flared black jeans and heeled boots, shoes or sandals.

beatrixpotterspencil · 11/12/2021 21:05

Honestly i am seeing them more and more, i think things only drop out of style for a few months these days before they come back! Dont ever throw something away because it isnt 'in'. Only ever do this if you do not love the item.
Dated is a very, very slippery term and perceptions of it are fairly ambiguous. Flash trends dont really knock a long term player off the field.

Ankle, knee, calf and thigh boots have been circulating for decades, continuously, and none ever go away for long enough to justify getting rid of a pair!

All's fair in love and boot Grin

MyView2 · 12/12/2021 00:06

Really interesting to hear the differing opinions. I’m not really one for following trends but posted originally because I couldn’t quite put my finger on what I wasn’t happy about with my outfit. It turns out I probably need to purchase some new items.

I tried the top with a leather mini but had the same footwear debate and tried a floaty black skirt that didn’t seem to work either. Anyway in the end I went with the original jeans, cuffed and with heels and that seemed ok. The top is from River Island for those that asked.

Go find some velvet satin trousers. Take the top with you until you find the right trousers
