It's not for an evening do, I want to wear it to Christmas things in the daytime and attempt to look slightly offbeat with boots or something. Is it going to work?

I think a purple would look good if you like dark colours, but I know many are wary of the Su Pollard effect.

I am thinking black off the shoulder top - what is it called boat neck or something? but something to show off the shoulders and to balance the skirt at the bottom allowing the boots to feature and at the same time give it an edge (more detail on boots please.)
