Evening out - plus size. Help!

I'm going on an evening out. It's not a dress-up-to the nines type affair, nor a casual drink with mates but somewhere in between.

Kinda the smart-casual of evenings out I guess.

And I don't know where to start! My social life has been pretty much zero since lockdown except some lovely pub meetups with friends where I just wore my usual jeans and long tops.

I'm size 24, with most of my weight on my stomach so on a normal day I tend to wear oversized t-shirts / shirt dresses / jumper dresses / tunics with jeans / jeggings / tights.

I want to wear something nice, but no idea - what do people wear on a night out these days!

Definitely need some new footwear for a start, but haven't worn heals since before lockdown and no wish to get back in them! A nice pair of boots maybe?

Any help gratefully received! Thanks :)

The silver one above is £50 and the blue one is £18, both at JD Williams.

I like this top but possibly too boring for a night out?

And, finally these are fun but not sure what I'd wear them with! And they're leggings rather than jeggings so maybe will look too much like active wear?!

£16 from Tu.

I'd love to know what the wise women of S&B think?

Grizas is incredibly expensive but the clothes are so beautiful and last forever…

Bsmirched · 29/11/2021 21:09

If you liked the Roman Originals top linked to earlier, have a look at their curve section.

Pinkstegosaurus · 29/11/2021 21:12

I love the first dress you put up OP! The leggings are far too activewear I think. The other tops are nice but what would you wear with them? My failsafe are pleathery looking leggings.

Wow that's expensive! Lovely clothes though. Maybe one day, if they have a sale!

Probably skinny black jeans or coated jeggings?

Boden go up to 22 and have good sales - there are some pretty dresses here www.boden.co.uk/en-gb/womens-view-all?fq_attr_category=Dresses&fq_all_size_availability=instock%7ESize%5E22&intid=WW_CB3_CTA&sort=pid_min_sale_price+asc&page=1

Love Boden, I don't fit my size 22 Boden dresses any more Sad

I'm definitely size 24 these days.

Unfortunately that'll accentuate my round stomach.

People on public transport sometimes offer me a seat as they think I'm heavily pregnant due to my shape!

Imagine I'm 7 months pregnant with a low-lying baby and trying to find a top that'll hide it!

Thanks for the suggestions everyone, I really appreciate it xx

I also like Seasalt but they arent as dressy - but go up to 28 I think and do have some good tummy hiding shapes. www.seasaltcornwall.com/clothing/plus-size-clothing?size=16366

Ooh, just noticed these are 40% off with code FORTY for the next 2 hours.

I'm going to order those to try on - I'm still looking though, I want to get one or two more and PROMISE myself to change the habit of a lifetime and actually send them back if they don't suit!

@43leftfeet

I like this, again a good length, but I'm worried it'll make me look like a round Christmas bauble?! What do you think?
Noo! This one now sold out!

Those look great. I think the blue one is probably a safer bet if it's not dress up to the nines affair. The sequin one is lovely but it seems more of a big night out top to me

m.shein.co.uk/Plus-Tie-Neck-Puff-Sleeve-Blouse-p-3402763-cat-1891.html

I have this blouse in 4 colours (so far!) I wear it tucked in black/grey trousers or skirt for work and loose with ripped skinny jeans and boots or heels for pub. I even wore with leather look leggings and air force ones and that looked quite cool.

Follow Laura Adlington (from bake off) on Instagram. She always looks lovely! Great inspo.

Sainsbury's do great plus size and really reasonable priced clothes.

43leftfeet · 29/11/2021 22:04

What do you think of this? I like it but is it too shapeless? Will it look like a tent in v. large?
