The red gown is a bespoke version of this one. I think I prefer Kate's. The original is striking but also looks a little like the wearer has just murdered several people with an axe!

*they were!

Honestly!! - this is what happens when I only manage half a cup of coffee. Confused

Ninkanink · 09/01/2022 12:23

Oh yes I much prefer Kate’s. I think the styling on that photo is perfect.

MotherofPearl · 09/01/2022 12:31

Oh the red and white version is dreadful! It's got a tie-dye vibe (I'm afraid I loathe tie-dye).

Ninkanink · 09/01/2022 12:38

I’d happily wear the original! It’s very pretty close up. But for a royal portrait I’m glad they didn’t go for that one...

Maireas · 09/01/2022 12:40

Yes, it's all a little bit Carrie at the Prom for my taste.
Thanks for the Tatler retrospective, Deftly, I would agree with them mostly, but definitely agree with you about the mustard Erdem!
I wish she'd rewear the red Preen dress, it's lovely.

@Ninkanink I definitely prefer Kate's styling to the model's on the McQueen website! But I guess that's more "fashion".

Maireas · 09/01/2022 16:16

The front cover of the Sunday Times has, in my opinion, a nicer image of Kate.

Lovely natural photo @Maireas.
She's either a wonderful actress, or has an inner happiness and comfort in her own skin - I personally think it's the latter.

mediciempire · 09/01/2022 18:10

i really like the one of her in profile that looks like a portrait. very old fashioned style which is why i like it. i'd like to see all the rf in photos taken like that. the other two are meh.

hopeishere · 09/01/2022 18:16

I didn't recognise her in the red dress one. It's looks nothing like her. I like the side profile one.

But I guess she is happy with them!

Maireas · 09/01/2022 18:24

I think it's the latter too, @Eaumyword

Is it the first proper profile portrait we’ve had of Kate? It’s a very unusual angle to see her from. I like it. I expect we’ll see a lot more of those in years to come.

justasking111 · 09/01/2022 20:03

@MaybeHeIsMyCat

Portraits here I like the first, and not keen on the others but I honestly don't think they look like her!
Think I've figured it out, the composition balance is all wrong in the red dress and the frilly head and shoulders shot it's all distracting fabric and the red dress chopped off below the waist.

Now the pictures could of course have been chopped off by the media which is why the rules of composition and proportion are some awful

justasking111 · 09/01/2022 23:19

I love this

A fine tribute

Becles · 10/01/2022 10:46

I quite like that the pictures are less heavy handed with the mascara and liner than she normally uses. It makes her look younger and less 'hard faced' as my gran would say. On the other hand the pictures don't really look like her, more of a dream version and because we see her all the time in real life have a bit of a false tinge. Mind you I wouldn't say no if someone took similar pictures of m for posterity! Grin

I am going to point out that in just one picture she's both wearing a one shouldered gown AND got hands in her pockets. Shock As the extensive articles and many MN threads noted when Meghan wore a one shouldered gown and another time had her hands in her pockets, this is clearly against royal protocol and a slap in the face for the Queen and total disrespect to the tax payers. Well, that would be uttter nonsense as we know, Beccles, and best ignored.
No such thing as royal protocol on this - HM has worn strapless and one shouldered dresses back since the 50s.

Becles - I know what you mean about the dream quality, that's definitely the vibe.

As an aside, I adore dresses with pockets and am currently sporting an old Boden one with owls wearing crowns Smile
I love that debutante 1950's/1960's evening dress vibe, all small waists and puffy skirts.

I haven't been keeping up with these threads at all, but wanted to pop in to show you this instagram post from a Norwegian fashion historian or something with Queen Sonja in a lovely dress. www.instagram.com/p/CYh6fIPjOoq/

Such an interesting dress, almost regency but at the same time clearly 1960s!

The account does a lot of Norwegian royal gowns, it's worth a follow for those who are interested!

Nice gallery of some of KM's outfits over the years.

Sorry I'm still rubbish at clicky links Blush

Eaumyword · 10/01/2022 15:05

Enjoyed the montage of Kate's outfits, thank you. Polarising I know, but still think that pale blue Ascot sheer outfit was gorgeous on her.
Loving the pics of her maj all glammed up! I like that slightly racy but still demure pink satin one. Smile
