Looking for the mother of all dressing gowns

This Christmas the only thing I want is a huge, cosy dressing gown. I need it to be thick and super warm, knee-length or longer, snuggly and have two large pockets. I plan to live in it while I'm on maternity leave, as well as wear it with a massive bump, so the bigger the better. It also needs to be machine washable too, so I think wool is out. Has anyone seen this marvel and could tell me where to buy it from please?

I bought a fleece dressing gown from George at ASDA. Six years old and still going strong. Very soft and warm.

Blueberryblueberry · 15/11/2021 17:41

The white company one you linked is lovely, it's my getting-out-of-the-shower robe and I never want to get dressed 🤣 I'm a size 10ish and I have a small, it's pretty long (I'm only 5ft though so have to hoike it up on the stairs) but not massive everywhere else (I'd probably need bigger if I was trying to accommodate a full term bump)

Right, confession time… last year I spent £325 on the red version of this ridiculous/perfect dressing gown. I would have kept it and not resented the insane amount of money IF I would have worn it every day even if just to lounge about in; it was completely impractical, not just the fabric but the length, sleeves, weight of the gown etc. It is a gorgeous but totally spurious dressing gown that can only be used for posing 😂 I mean I would still have kept it if I had more money than I do. But I don’t. I did do a photo shoot before sending it back though.

ambereeree · 15/11/2021 18:06

Look in next I bought a lovely thick one with pockets and a hood during my maternity leave. But be warned....baby sick meant i had to wash it often and was a bugger to dry. I would go with a lightweight fleece one.

I have this and its lovely and washes well

Runaroundtrain · 15/11/2021 18:51

I ordered two from the White Company and both are going back. The grey hooded velour is disappointingly thin and not at all cosy. The other was a striped towelling without hood (sort of beige and white) - just not a nice fabric. Have just collected the M&S Rosie and, whilst certainly not cotton, it’s so much thicker, softer and will be cosier than the White Company robes. Half the price too so if I see a nicer, more expensive gown later on, well I won’t feel guilty about investing!

Gensola · 15/11/2021 18:56

I have the M&S Rosie fluffy one in grey and it’s super cosy and warm and has pockets. It’s two years old and looks brand new.

I had a really thick one from Tesco a couple of weeks ago it’s got the shepa lining and really soft with a hood . I think a lot of them now are really thin and not very cosy . I found one on the boux Avenue website that I nearly bought coz it looked proper thick .

Men’s section from Asda…..it was a present for him and now everyone else in the house fights over it

snowgirl1 · 15/11/2021 19:02

If you're tall, have a look at Long Tall Sally's dressing gowns - they're floor length for tall ladies. I got one for Christmas a few years ago and it's properly full length and very very warm.

BillinaTheChickenQueen · 15/11/2021 19:04

I had this one only a full length version. I don’t think it’s in stock anymore but it was honestly the best dressing gown ever. So warm and heavy.

What I liked about the white company one is that it’s cotton not polyester. This is half environmental half because I get really hot in fleece.

MrsDeaconClaybourne · 15/11/2021 19:56

I've just got this one

www.whitestuff.com/womens/nightwear/navy-pr-ava-lined-robe/

I went a size up and it's really big and cosy. I love it.

WeeM · 15/11/2021 20:47

I didn’t think I wanted a new dressing gown until I found this thread!

I have a Marks sort of soft velour one that is really soft without the bulk of fleece. It’s getting a bit done now though so wondering if a cotton towelling one would be better. I do like the idea of a zip up one 🙈

@MrsDeaconClaybourne OMG that looks AMAZING!

Bromeliad · 15/11/2021 21:30

I was going to link to the white stuff one but someone already has. I got one very similar a couple of years ago and I absolutely love it. So warm and snuggly.

SerendipitySunshine · 15/11/2021 21:43

You are all brilliant, thank you.

noblegreenk · 15/11/2021 22:29

Mens dressing gowns. They're better quality and longer. I have a black one from Burton that's ankle length, snuggly and hooded. I also pinched my dad's navy one, it was only from tesco but it's equally long and cosy.my only gripe is that mens dressing gowns come in limited colours.

ImFree2doasiwant · 15/11/2021 22:32

I've got a really nice thick fluffy warm dressing gown, with hood, and pockets, from Marks . Below knee length on me. 5ft7.

triplechoc · 15/11/2021 22:41

Mine is from Dorothy Perkins, a few years ago now but they still do similar. Fluffy/warm, long, two big pockets, washes well, and was under £30. Having just had a look, this year they have a ‘maxi robe’ which would trail on the floor for me (5’3) but if you’re taller would at least guarantee below the knee.

MrsDeaconClaybourne · 15/11/2021 22:49

I don't normally shop and White Stuff but someone got me a voucher. There wasn't anything I really liked clotheswise so decided to treat myself to the dressing gown as something I wouldn't normally spend so much on. I got a new customer discount of, I think, 15% off too.

I have this and it’s super cosy, though you might need to go for the wrap version rather than buttons to get you through late pregnancy.

WellTidy · 16/11/2021 12:01

DH has an M&S dressing gown, which he wears daily, that pre-dates our 20 year relationship. So M&S seems to be a good bet!
