Coloured tights?

Blahdyblahbla · 12/11/2021 08:49

I don't wear black, my clothes are mostly autumnal colours. So black tights would look out of place.
I usually wear thick nude tights, but as we move into winter I'm wondering if coloured tights might be a good option, e.g a multi coloured skirt, brown ankle boots and maybe burgundy or brown tights.
They look amazing on younger people IMO, but at 40 will I look a bit too hippy or try hard? Does anyone else wear coloured tights past their 30s if your look isn't at all Boho?

I think brown/burgundy/grey/navy are all pretty safe alternatives to black.
It's only when you get to e.g. teal or mustard or red that you'd stand out.

(Not sure what being over 30 has to do with it mind you!)

Blahdyblahbla · 12/11/2021 08:57

@thedevilinablackdress thank you, I think I'm having a wardrobe crisis since I hit 40 Blush and wondering if some things are too "young" for me. It's a bit ridiculous isn't it.

It is ridiculous, but also normal. Hopefully it'll pass soon Smile

They were quite in fashion about 10-15 years ago but honestly it seems less a thing now

LadyCampanulaTottington · 12/11/2021 10:09

I have blue, green, mustard, burgundy, purple and gold tights. I love wearing bright contrasting colours especially on Autumn and Winter. Am in my 40s. You’re never too old!!

Lowlifeinhighplaces · 12/11/2021 10:19

I love a coloured leg!

Have plenty of colours mentioned here, but buy them in different materials such as cotton with silk, or thermal lined/brushed cotton if cold as well as opaques. TKmaxx does get in Falke tights at times which can be a bargain. I also like thicker patterned tights as well.

I pay no attention what so ever to age, if you like them wear them, lifes to short to care!

otterlybonkers · 12/11/2021 15:28

I think it is much less about age and more about where you live, your social circle and your lifestyle (job, etc).

I think as we get older we can become a bit too aware of 'standing out', even if we look amazing. As if we become a little but too sensitive to drawing attention. We can wither into the crowd a bit, for fear of expressing ourselves with clothes, unlike then we were younger.

This is only a generalisation, but having lived in a few very different places with people from different backgrounds, some of those places were more welcoming to creativity than others. So I think what we perceive around us does influence the way our clothing choices tend to go as we grow older. The way you often hear people asking how to fit in, sartorially, with other mums at the school gate, etc.
Individuality and creativity in clothing is much less encouraged than it was in the late 90's for example.

Omg. Grin

Coloured tights are a thing of joy. Age is LITERALLY not a consideration on this one.

AuntMasha · 12/11/2021 16:48

Agree with pp.I intend to wear coloured AND patterned tights when I’m in my 80s. Never knew there was an age limit to wearing them.

100% agree.
BrennieGirl · 12/11/2021 16:51

The only colour tights I won't wear is yellow because they remind me of Big Bird.

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 12/11/2021 16:52

I think coloured tights look absolutely ridiculous on anyone unless it's part of a fancy dress costume or something so don't be put off by age!

OhDear2200 · 12/11/2021 16:52

I like coloured tights. I go for grey, maroon, brown and mustard colours. Subtle colours not bright. I just love a splash of colour as the days get colder and darker.

I’m mid 40’s (and don’t give a crap at what people think of my tights 🤣)

Eeerrrmmmm, his legs are orange!
thedevilinablackdress · 12/11/2021 18:01

I don't get how navy or grey tights (which is the sort of thing we are talking about here for the OP) look ridiculous @sliceofcakecupoftea ? It's about as subtle and inoffensive as it gets.
Maybe I'm wrong? To be fair I do own a pair of red and black zigzag pattern tights which are pretty loud.

Just my opinion. I think it looks ridiculous

JaceLancs · 12/11/2021 21:13

I wear navy with navy boots - also have really dark green and a dark purple - I’m 57 and they suit my plain classic clothing style

orangejuicer · 13/11/2021 06:16

I'm 39 and almost bought candy cane tights recently. I opted for slightly more subtle ones in the end but I would have worn them. I think it's how you feel more than anything else.

Gufo · 13/11/2021 07:42

What colour would you recommend for navy ankle grazers and burgundy loafers? My ankles are feeling the chill.
