Needing to buy some new clothes for the winter due to baby related weight gain but I'm not sure where to start!

What outfits would you choose for -

  1. Christmas day
  2. Work/family Christmas party
  3. Pub lunch
  4. Day out Christmas shopping / markets

  1. and 2) - a red or green dress (I have several of each, no shopping needed)
  2. jeans, boots, metallic/sparkly top, Xmassy earrings
  3. casual jeans/top/coat/boots
SocksAndTheCity · 11/11/2021 22:42

1: PJs with a possible change into harems and a hoodie/sweater or something else comfortable if I can be bothered.
2: N/A
3: Short skirt in pleather/tartan/other tweed type fabric with a cashmere sweater, tights and boots
4: Similar to (3), but with a coat and DMs. Possibly cropped trousers/turned up jeans rather than the skirt and tights depending on weather :)

Christmas Day - I'm usually cooking so something not too warm, and also sparkly.www.hush-uk.com/dahlia-v-neck-glitter-dress-black-multi/001018-2980-XL.html?gclid=CjwKCAiAm7OMBhAQEiwArvGi3NaxqR63-2xnEZJfRMsxVQ2bO7_dw1IXNJxq0zAf3EMoiuixNeKxNBoC2t0QAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds#fo_c=1586&fo_k=f04be81ca70c068ee54350a3cf41401b&fo_s=gplauk
I might also wear that to xmas parties.
Pub lunch maybe a midi dress and denim jacket, maybe jeans.
For Christmas shopping, if it was indoors, black jeans, trainers, top and thin jacket, cross body bag. I hate being overheated, so I might leave my jacket in the car if i was driving.If.a market outdoors, then a warm jacket and boots. Maybe a coat like this www.anthropologie.com/en-gb/shop/high-neck-teddy-coat?color=086&size=10&cm_mmc=rakuten--affiliates--Lyst%20UK%2FEU-_-19325&utm_medium=affiliates&utm_source=rakuten&utm_campaign=Lyst%20UK%2FEU&utm_term=595641&utm_content=19325&utm_kxconfid=v3sdgzjs8&ranMID=37257&ranEAID=gcdL%2FATRVoE&ranSiteID=gcdL_ATRVoE-kjFPpRJz3iZ7ogpKVwVIMg&type=REGULAR&quantity=1.

Christmas day velvet t shirt dress, no parties, pub usually one of my Christmas dresses, one with Santas all over, or reindeer in a Nordic pattern of a Christmas t shirt with black trousers, day out would be the same as the pub

That really made me laugh, @Soupseason 😂😂 You're not wrong though!

  1. An emerald green velvet ruched midi dress with an asymmetric cape - haven’t worn it yet and VERY excited 😛
  2. Probably the green dress as it’s so gorgeous, I just want any excuse to put it on! Otherwise if it’s a dance type work do, skinny pleather leggings, lace up peep toe shoe boots and a draping silk sleeveless top in a bronze/gold colour ( eBay Helmut Lang).
  3. Another eBay find - a midi tube black velvet dress from Splendid - really flattering and skims rather than clings. With lace up black flat Grenson style boots. Probably put my AS Monument coat over it as I like the look of the staggered hemlines.
  4. Fleece lined black faux leather leggings, same flat boots as 3, off the shoulder jumper with a wool blend chocolate brown midi wrap coat from H&M.

This is my green dress - I don’t wear it off the shoulder - prefer it to just drape.

JMAngel1 · 12/11/2021 21:49

Did I kill this thread with my dress Grin

Redshoeblueshoe · 12/11/2021 21:54

Well JM I like that dress

Kenworthington · 12/11/2021 22:01

I LOVE the dress @JMAngel1

AnnaMagnani · 13/11/2021 09:53
  1. Pyjamas most of the day followed by average weekend wear. Paper hat after crackers pulled.
  2. Jeans, smart top, necklace
  3. As above
  4. Jeans, comfy shoes, warm coat

Am possibly not best person to ask as clearly I am more comfort than style.

slipperyeel · 13/11/2021 10:15

Xmas day - me&em cropped wide leg trousers, silk cami, mohair type cropped cardigan

Party www.stories.com/en_gbp/clothing/dresses/mini-dresses/product.velvet-wrap-dress-green.1051589001.html

Pub lunch same as #1 or tube skirt, shirt & DMs

Shopping jeans, thin jumper or shirt, coat

Rina66 · 13/11/2021 10:30

Maybe buy 3 types of bottoms and 3 types of top that can all mix and match?

  1. Christmas Day - faux leather pull on leggings & thin knitted tunic jumper, sparkly shoes and earrings

  2. Party - faux leather leggings, satin shirt & heels

  3. Pub lunch - midi pleated skirt, polo neck, boots and biker jacket

  4. Christmas Market - jeans, tunic jumper, longline gilet

The leather leggings can be worn day or night, smart or casual.
The jeans can be worn with the satin shirt and a jacket plus boots for a more casual look.
The midi skirt can be worn with a black cami, heels and biker for a night out.

Christmas Day: See 2
Work/family party: Black velvet dress from M&S with a bit of sparkle in it - really pretty and soft and subtle. Will get lots of other wear too. With lace up ankle boots.
Pub lunch: very simple Toast dress with a nice scarf and biker boots.
Market/shopping: Jeggings or skinnies with boots and a Seasalt tunicy top.
--with the latter two a black shearling jacket - only an M&S copy - but it works well and updates everything.

ronfa · 13/11/2021 10:38
  1. always chose something comfy so this year wide sequin trousers & a nice t-shirt

Christmas day - nothing special, we have the day at home just as a family so often I am still in Pyjamas until mid morning!
Christmas party - I've bought a black jumpsuit to wear.
Pub lunch - a midi dress with biker jacket and black chunky boots
Christmas shopping - something that keeps keeps me as cool as possible because I find shops and department stores really hot and sweaty!

EllaPaella · 13/11/2021 10:50

@Rina66 where is that lovely satin blouse from?

IvorCutler · 13/11/2021 10:53

@ronfa I love your choices 😍

Rina66 · 13/11/2021 10:56

@EllaPaella H & M - it's very lovely, I've got it in the grey and the black, also comes in cream £24.99, total bargain. Looks great under a midi tunic jumper they're selling too, I'll post a pic...

Rina66 · 13/11/2021 11:00

It's this, H & M call it a dress
