Lip filler tomorrow...nervous!

I've posted before about lip Fillers but I'm having it done tomorrow and so nervous.

Has anyone who has had it done able to give me some last minute reassurance? Any before and after pics would be great. Also did it hurt?

I never thought I'd have lip filler and to be honest, I've never seen a lip filler look natural. This is what I'm most nervous about.

Im not actually going because I want bigger, filled lips. Basically I've a few very fine fines above my top lip and some underneath. They form when I speak but are now static lines. The Doctor suggested filler around the border of the lips (not having the body filled) because this can help with the lines.

He's very experienced and expensive and has many awards! So he's definitely qualified but I'm worried I'll look fake or have the obvious lines at the top of my lip. I think I'm having 1ml (that's what is on the invoice) but worried it'll be too much. Also, I've not told my partner 😬 praying for little to no swelling 😂

Can you post pics? This is the reason why I'm considering getting it done. I tried Botox on my lip lines but it wasn't great.

Best of luck!

Westnsouthnabout · 10/11/2021 23:52

If you have always wantwd them go for it.it should be less painful on non lip skin around the lips but if you aew worried cd you.ask.for a dental.bloc?
Your doctor sounds fab.amd you will be in good hands. If conceenwd about bruising, get.some arnica amd take prior amd after treatment. All the best , will be fab

RalphLaurenG · 11/11/2021 00:06

I've had them done twice because I have really, really thin lips - see photo!!!

First time - with a beautician and it hurt like fuck. Awful. I nearly told her to stop when she was halfway through.

Second time - qualified nurse - barely felt a thing!

They're definitely worth having though, I love the way my lips look now. The photo is after the nurse did them.

I'm so nervous! Tempted to cancel but it would be rude so last minute. He gets booked up months in advance!

@SwimmingOnEggshells if I'm brave enough I'll post some pics. Imay end up hiding and crying!

@Westnsouthnabout I never actually wanted them done haha. In fact I was always adament I'd never get my lips done. I don't really want my lips to look different as such, it's purely to help the lines around my lips.

@RalphLaurenG yours look lovely. Did you have 0.9ml as it says in the pic? You've got a noticeable difference with 9ml. He's put me down for 1ml! I'm worried I'll end up with huge lips! I want a very very subtle difference. Do you have any bulging around the outsides of the lips? I can't see it in the pic.

OP posts:
RalphLaurenG · 11/11/2021 10:42

He'll be very careful with you for the first time and be cautious with how much he uses. Honestly, don't worry, you'll be fine! And don't forget that they'll look a bit bigger anyway until the swelling goes down. Post pics later!!

Notonthenewrug · 11/11/2021 14:02

Well it's done!
I also had a chemical peel under my eyes, which was painful but bearable.
My lips didn't really hurt, just the occasional bit of a pinch as expected.
I was so, so nervous mostly because I do not want fake looking lips! I thought he was doing just the edges but he said he was also doing the body of the lips.
I don't actually want to look at them! I had a glance in the mirror and they definitely look bigger and I'm scared they look fake!
However, he did say I could probably do with a little more and said he has never had to dissolve any filler before (well not from his work).
Also, he said they will now be swollen and go down around 30%
My partner doesn't know I've had it done, so I'm not sure how I'm going to hide it!
I'm literally sat in my car with my facemask on and may wrap a scarf around my face!
I'm sure it'll be ok.
I'm someone who gets nervous about having slightly too many hairs plucked from my eyebrows, so probably not the best person to alter my face.

Notonthenewrug · 11/11/2021 14:02

@RalphLaurenG did you have sweeping immediately? Did they go down a lot after the swelling?

OP posts:
DedalusBloom · 11/11/2021 14:05

I had mine done about a year ago - 1 ml just to replace lost volume. They were really swollen for 2 days!! Looked fine after the procedure but I soon looked ridiculous and of course couldn't hide what I'd had done from my partner/ work. I wish they'd told me that was a possibility ( I realise everyone is different) as I'd have chosen days when I could hide away afterwards!

After 2 days the swelling reduced and I was really happy with them.

Notonthenewrug · 11/11/2021 14:06

*swelling not sweeping

OP posts:
Notonthenewrug · 11/11/2021 14:09

@DedalusBloom I'm glad you're happy with them now. I have also had a chemical peel under my eyes and was basically told I'd be hiding away for a week, so I'm lucky in that respect.
My partner is bound to notice...unless I literally keep my back to him and avoid any eye contact.
The doctor said there is swelling straight away because lips swell as soon as you inject them.
I literally cannot bear to look at them in case they are horrendous!

OP posts:
Notonthenewrug · 11/11/2021 14:11

I mean in fairness my lips didn't look great before. I've lost a lot of volume, have a lots of lines on them. So part of me thinks it's worth trying something and if I hate them, I can get them dissolved.
I just feel silly because my partner hates me getting treatments done and my mum.has always said to never get my lips done because it looks awful!
I think I'll just not look in a mirror for a week and hope it turns out ok

OP posts:
Marygoround22 · 11/11/2021 14:13

You've never seen it look natural because when it looks natural, you won't know it!
I get mine done at least once a year. I love it and look so much nicer but nobody would know.
And yes, it **ing hurts but it's bearable. Ask for anaesthetic and put enough on. Take painkillers before your appointment.

DedalusBloom · 11/11/2021 14:20

Yes, very happy with them, looking to get a little top up in the new year. I've got a great doctor who absolutely believes less is more, so I know I'm in good hands!

I'm sure you'll love yours when they go down a bit!

violetanemone · 11/11/2021 14:31

If you're worried about looking fake then why are you having lip filler? Hmm You're injectinc chemicals into your face. Each to their own and there's nothing wrong with it, but it is inherently fake.

Notonthenewrug · 11/11/2021 14:31

@Marygoround22 I've had them done. It didn't really hurt although I've read conflicting accounts. I didn't have any anaesthesic on my lips but there was anaesthetic in the filler.
That's what the doctor said to me haha, you only really see the bad results. The problem is that I focus on any change, even if subtle. All I really wanted was the lines around my lips reduced. However I definitely lack volume I'm my lips.

@DedalusBloom it's great to find someone you trust, that's the most important thing. I'm just generally nervous about any change to my face.

I'm.still sat in the car too nervous to go home! I literally haven't even taken my face mask off and I'm dreading my partner noticing.

OP posts:
Notonthenewrug · 11/11/2021 14:33

@violetanemone yes and I do agree with you. It's because I didn't actually want any huge, visible change to my lips. The doctor suggested a little filler in my lips would help improve the lines around my mouth. I think you can have treatments done but hope to look natural after.
I literally hate the way I look so much.

OP posts:
soberfabulous · 11/11/2021 14:40

OP I have mine done for similar reasons and I absolutely love it and wish I'd had it done sooner.

My main advice is ask for a dental block. Emla cream just won't cut it.

SummaLuvin · 11/11/2021 14:44

@violetanemone

This somewhat misses the point. Cosmetic changes are fake and they do sometimes look fake, but they don't have to.

Fake tan can look horribly orange and fake, but it can also look like someone spent a week in Spain. Similar with boob jobs - very high sitting, rounded, with a lot of upper volume look fake, but proportional size in teardrop shape can look natural. People who know these people well would know that Melissa didn't go on holiday or that Holly's boobs were smaller a month ago so would be aware, but most other people wouldn't know it wasn't natural. The same applies with lip filler, it can be done with a heavy hand obvious way, but can be very subtle.

There is this confirmation bias where people think lip-filler looks horrible and fake and "it's always obvious" but unless you ask every person you ever see if they have it, the only time you know is when it is clear they have had it done, with the more natural work going under the radar.

OP - you can't hide this from your partner, there will be swelling and some difference, which is what you want ultimately since you paid for the procedure. He doesn't have to like it, but he should respect your choice.

AndTime · 11/11/2021 14:52

Op your partner is going to notice, you will be swollen and possibly bruised for upto a week. Just be honest, they are your lips! You are allowed to do what you like to them.

I have had mine done 5 times now over the last few years but I don't think they are massive or fake looking. I could do with a top up actually.

Lots of people dye their hair and want it to look natural, this is similar, yes a little more drastic but the pp above has had hers done beautifully and in my opinion they don't look fake.
Notonthenewrug · 11/11/2021 15:51

@AndTime yours look great. How much filler do you have in?

I've finally looked at my lips and honestly they don't really look much bigger and with sweeling considered, I'll have a very minor result. Saying that, there is something about them that looks a bit false. It may be because they have a bit more bulk at the top, although I think some of this may be swelling from injection sites.

For those that have had lip filler, did you notice swelling around the edge of the lips? Did it settle?

OP posts:
Notonthenewrug · 11/11/2021 16:01

I will also day that as an insecure person it is very depressing having someone judge your face. I hate many things but apparently could do with chin filler (who knew this was a thing) and midface filler, to lift my one side thtas sagging and smaller than the other!
So depressing!

I did notice swelling around the edge of the lips but it settled down in a day or two completely.

SwimmingOnEggshells · 11/11/2021 16:21

He sounds good op. I'd say they'll look great in a few days :)

Ugh, so you go in for one thing and get a bonus evaluation of all the other 'faults' that can be fixed? You say you hate your appearance, but please don't let things that have never bothered you until now become an issue because just one botox 'n' fillers doctor says so. It's similar to when the hairdresser suggests you buy their salon's shampoo and conditioner. Upselling.

Hope you're pleased with the results of your lip fillers. Smile
