My new jeans came today and they’re all wrong. Not just distressed jeans, but M&S distressed.

Such a shame, they’re soft and fit perfectly.

But they’re unhemmed and pathetically “distressed”. One area on the right upper thigh that looks like I’ve snagged them, and one area on the left knee that looks like I’ve scratched some colour off.

It’s hilarious. Like M&S said “right, we need to distress these jeans to make them look more trendy and appealing to Those Young Women.” But didn’t quite know how to do that so just irritated them slightly. A sort of mildly peeved rather than actually distressed.

Yes!! I've just had a pair delivered. A perfectly well fitted, comfortable pair of jeans ruined by a stupid pretend distressed hem and random pretend tears. Really irritating! They're going back. If I wanted to shop in Tammy Girl again I'd go back to the 90s!!

Candleabra · 10/11/2021 20:30

Mildly peeved Grin

So typical of m&s though. Reminds me of all the per una clothes, they just could not produce a nice plain top. I swear the designers had a wheel of fortune with a choice of ribbon, frill, button, odd hemline, weird pocket…. Some clothes had the wheel spun more than once!

BruceAndNosh · 10/11/2021 20:33

We need a photo of these "mildly peeved" jeans.
Or a link so we can all avoid

AreYouRightThereSkippy · 10/11/2021 20:34

Yes, photo! Or it didn't happen Halloween Wink

DobbyTheHouseElk · 10/11/2021 20:36

How annoying

Sidge · 10/11/2021 20:41

@PanicStationsAhh you have the same jeans!

Such a shame.

it’s these bad boys. Avoid unless you’re younger and much trendier than me

I can see now the faux distressed (I.e. mildly peeved) unhemmed effect but really didn’t notice when I was browsing online. Pah.

I nearly ordered those very ones until I saw the shredded hems, which looked like the ones I unintentionally distressed in my teens 30 years ago by wearing long boot-cuts that always ended up soggy and sad.

Due to pick up a couple of different pairs tomorrow, am hopeful but ready to be disappointed...

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 10/11/2021 20:46

Yep, that happened to me too. They actually looked older than the jeans I was replacing!

Sidge · 10/11/2021 20:47

You can see the pathetic attempt at distressing on the upper right thigh. I mean, wtf 🤣

The effect on the left leg is even more futile…

I can't see what you mean on the link - those jeans have a visible hem?

Craftycorvid · 10/11/2021 20:52

Not even mildly peeved - more ‘well, I could feel a little irked if I could be arsed’. 🤣

WineGetsMeThroughIt · 10/11/2021 20:53

I thought this too. But the link opens up to the black pair. Click on the blue pair and you'll see what they're talking about.

I actually saw these Jeans in the shop. Spotted the hem, and thought WTF 🤦🏼‍♀️

This. Those jeans look totally normal. There is no ‘distressing’ anywhere on them
potoforchids · 10/11/2021 20:57

@Lipsandlashes you need to look at the 'blue denim' ones

They need to either take off the little marks completely or add way more!

Sidge · 10/11/2021 20:57

Oh does it? I linked to the blue ones. Not sure why it is showing the black ones.

Thanks. I see it now. Agree the hem is absolutely horrible!

amsadandconfused · 10/11/2021 21:00

I have these Jeans …so comfortable but the ‘distressed’ bit has completely ruined them ..there needs to be more stressy bits or none at all!

cowburp · 10/11/2021 21:03

What is going on with the hems on the lightest blue pair?!

RaisinFlapjack · 10/11/2021 21:04

I have a pair of M&S boyfriend jeans that have similar pathetically meek ‘distressing’. The jeans were otherwise perfect so I am just tolerating it. But it’s irritating!

Carboncheque · 10/11/2021 21:05

I bought some jeans from M&S with a rip in, just above the knee. They were too loose on the thighs but fit more closely below the knee. If I stood sideways on I looked like the Beetham tower. I officially don’t do distressed denim anymore.

Sidge · 10/11/2021 21:14

Carnage, that’s what’s going on there.

It’s like they sort of hemmed them, then went NO, NO HEM! STICK ANOTHER BIT OF RAW MATERIAL AT THE BOTTOM!!

EXACTLY!

Like a sort of middle class ennui, not quite aerated enough to be peeved even.

BruiserWoods · 10/11/2021 21:21

I feel your pain. I ordered a pair of M&S jeans and I thought they'd be loose all over but they're tight around my tummy and bum but loose lower down. They weren't what I was expecting at all.

user1471518295 · 10/11/2021 21:26

I am so sad - I am coming back to the UK for a few days and saw these on line and was craving for some soft jeans. The other material makes my legs itch ... and high waisted - they were going to be perfect for me Sad

Sidge · 10/11/2021 21:32

@user1471518295 just get the black or indigo, and you’ll avoid the nonsense. It’s only the light denim and blue denim that are distressed.
