My new jeans came today and they’re all wrong. Not just distressed jeans, but M&S distressed.

Such a shame, they’re soft and fit perfectly.

But they’re unhemmed and pathetically “distressed”. One area on the right upper thigh that looks like I’ve snagged them, and one area on the left knee that looks like I’ve scratched some colour off.

It’s hilarious. Like M&S said “right, we need to distress these jeans to make them look more trendy and appealing to Those Young Women.” But didn’t quite know how to do that so just irritated them slightly. A sort of mildly peeved rather than actually distressed.

It's a travesty that's what it is!

Fortheloveofgodwhy · 10/11/2021 22:05

I have mildly peeved jeans too! Hennes for the old skool peeps 😏 lovely and comfy. But they do look a lot like the pair I snagged when I was trimming my roses….

That tiny little "repaired rip' on the thigh of the pale blue ones is I'm pretending I'm all tough and rugged but actually I just got caught on a bramble

CointreauVersial · 10/11/2021 22:16

Gawd, i can't bear distressed jeans. They always look so contrived.

TravisFountain · 10/11/2021 22:28

@Carboncheque

I bought some jeans from M&S with a rip in, just above the knee. They were too loose on the thighs but fit more closely below the knee. If I stood sideways on I looked like the Beetham tower. I officially don’t do distressed denim anymore.
Like a denim version of these bad boys?

I have some jeans from another retailer that are also mildly peeved. Thoughts & prayers.

The detail on the thigh looks like dried jizz!!

MaidEdithofAragon · 10/11/2021 23:12

I've got these. Crap aren't they,? Agree loose on the arse and clingy on the calves. I wear them anyway as I cba returning them but I look ridiculous. Nice soft material tho.

pickingdaisies · 10/11/2021 23:16

I have a similarly tetchy pair of jeans from Hush ( the Agnes ones). My DH helpfully told me I'd got a mark on them. I'm wearing them now, a perfectly good pair of jeans except for where they've scratched them on the front pocket, so that bit will wear out faster than the rest. So I'll have to properly patch themGrin

Flyingsouthagain · 10/11/2021 23:21

The interesting thing about the M&S Carrie is that only some of them have that ridiculous distressed finish.

If you can get to a store there are some which are just normal jean material with normal hems.

I ordered some on line, hated the distressed look, took them back to my normal store and the assistant smiled when I explained why I was returning them, nipped off and got me the undistressed Carrie’s !!

thanksamillion · 10/11/2021 23:36

To the poster who mentioned Per Una and the wheel of fashion, my uber trendy DD sells on Depop etc and is always buying up Per Una from charity shops. Apparently it sells very well as 'FairyCore'. I always have a little chuckle when she shows me what she's sold.

etulosba · 11/11/2021 09:34

Like a denim version of these bad boys?

When I was young I had a (cuddly toy) rabbit dressed in breeches just like that. He had a green jacket too.

coogee · 11/11/2021 09:37

I have a pair of Miss Sixty jeans that look they have been mauled by a tiger. I have to be very careful to put my toes through the right holes when putting them on.

Sooverthemill · 11/11/2021 09:57
@PanicStationsAhh you have the same jeans!

Such a shame.

it’s these bad boys. Avoid unless you’re younger and much trendier than me

I can see now the faux distressed (I.e. mildly peeved) unhemmed effect but really didn’t notice when I was browsing online. Pah.
These look fine online.

AndSoFinally · 11/11/2021 10:38

I had a pair of these. I just rolled the legs slightly as couldn't be arsed to send them back.

My mum came to stay to babysit for the weekend. When I got back, she proudly told me she'd managed to repair my tatty old jeans. She'd sewn up the hems again! 😂

Sidge · 11/11/2021 11:27

@Sooverthemill the black and indigo certainly DO like fine online. Click on the horror that is the blue denim or light denim and you’ll see what I mean.

You might want to sit down first.

Thanks for all the solidarity - I am sad that I had such high expectations and was let down so badly.

Sneaky, M&S- sneaky.

(Lighthearted in case anyone is about to post me a grip).

GuckGuckDoose · 11/11/2021 11:30

If they’re anything like the mum jeans, the back pockets will be ridiculously tiny too, which makes my arse look absolutely massive (it’s not, one of the relatively smaller parts of me..) and not in a good way.

NotThatHomer · 11/11/2021 11:36

I like the hems, my favourite jeans have them, although they are not M&S. But take your point about the mildly peeved bits of distressing on the legs! Carries fit too high anyway, despite being tall with a long torso, they go uncomfortably above my belly button.

mewkins · 11/11/2021 11:55

I don't mind hems like that. I cut off any loose threads and just roll them up anyway. I would also get the sandpaper out and properly upset the mildly distressed bits.

rookiemere · 11/11/2021 12:01

I saw those in the shop. If they hadn't been distressed I would have bought them.
