I have Revlon Skin Lights blusher. Gives a dewy, youthful shimmer on the cheeks. V. lovely. But I've lost the bugger, and now look pale and flaccid rather than youthful and perky.

I also have Maybelline bronze-y foundation with a shimmer. That's shit. All it does is sit in the wrinkles and make them look worse. Has a slightly tango effect, too. But as I've lost my bottle of Maybelline foundation that gives a flawless complexion it's either that or just look, well, pale and flaccid again.

Am starting to wonder where all my make up has gone. DD1 had school play last week....coincidence? I think not.

Scoring these could be a problem due to the diversity of shimmering products.

Skin Lights: 8.5/10
Goes on easily, gives a good glow but with a natural look.

Maybelline bronzing foundation: 1/10
OK if you like that wrinkly satsuma look and are happy with your every flaw being highlighted beyond doubt.

DingDongJeremyOnVile · 12/12/2007 11:54

For ease of use, maybe make this test less technical so just do a generic ?/10 score, it's not like we can use the scoring to comapre anyway, because there is not one particular product.

I think this one will just be good for getting an idea of what particular products do and if they're alright or fab or shite.

OliviaMumsnet · 12/12/2007 16:48

YAY! I will change my name to something festive and everything.

Scoring - Glitterstickability? (i.e. do you look like a spice girl or just gently shimmering?)

I will be back. I am an expert on glitter!

EniDeepMidwinter · 12/12/2007 16:52

glitter looks hideous when over 40

nailpolish · 12/12/2007 16:53

yes i ahve lots

wil post when i have time

nailpolish · 12/12/2007 16:53

oh and scoring should include longevity as glittery stuff can slide off

nangnangnang · 12/12/2007 18:17

yep, agree longevity should be included.

Nars multiple:

Shimmer - 10/10 beautiful colours, subtle shimmer v healthy-making

Longevity - 5/10 comes off quite easily when your skin comes in contact with other peoples. Not a massive problem - it just means air-kissing if you're too mean to share your lovely glow with friends.

Total 15/20

This will be a good thread for planning my Glitter Xmas Party then !
(all MNers virtually invited !)

PaulaYatesbiggestfan · 12/12/2007 19:18

i beg to differ enid
my urban decay pink eye glitter looks lovely and i am 40 - just and a youthful looking - but 40!

WeWhizzzYouAMerryXmas · 12/12/2007 19:18

Barry M silver glitter eyeliner pencil

no good, pencil is too hard to get a good line. Individual bits of glitter come off & you end up looking like you have used kids glitter & rubbed your eyes.

Ease of use 1/10
Value for money 1/10 (cost £4.50)
Glitter factor 3/10

dingdongMegaLegsonhigh · 12/12/2007 19:20

I dropped a pot of my Barry M in the sink, my bathroom is indeed sparkly as are my lungs probably.

PaulaYatesbiggestfan · 12/12/2007 19:22

urban decay heavy metal eyeliner glitter

ease of use 7/10 - needs slow application - leaving time to dry between coats - i also mixed it with silver and grey
value for money 6/10
glitter factor 10/10 although i dont apply tonnes a small but perfectly formed of wow factor

largevirginbirthandtonic · 12/12/2007 19:43

For starters

Lush glitterbug

longevity 9/10

Ease of use 5/10 Everything gets covered!

Shimmeriness 7/10 quite big glittery bits so more bling than others.

Value for money 10/10 £2.95 for 30g

Get it here

I love it, cover everyone you meet in it too!

largevirginbirthandtonic · 12/12/2007 19:46

Lush also do Shimmy Shimmy, very similar. Only difference i found is it has smaller glittery bits. It does not make it less subtle though!

nailpolish · 13/12/2007 09:49

not for the faint hearted and for serious nights out only

great over eyeshadow

7/10

points off for fiddlyness of application and you must have a steady hand - ie re-application in toilets after a few gins doesnt really work

fishie · 13/12/2007 10:14

urban decay 24/7 eyepencil in dime (silver) £9

ease of use 8/10 and blends with other pencils well to make them metallic. am reserving top score as haven't sharpened it yet, can all go very wrong with a soft pencil.

value for money 6.5/10 it is bit spendy for a mid-range pencil

shimmeriness 6/10 restrained twinkle for the pre-40 but apres 35yo.

stickability 9/10 does not budge without remover.

nangnangnang · 13/12/2007 10:20

If we're back onto glitter eyeliners can I mention the Bourjois one?

Shimmer 7/10 - quite subtle sparkle which suits me cos I'm not after the drag queen look

Longevity 7/10 - pretty good but does migrate to cheeks

Three colours, I think. I've got the black one with silvery bits and would recommend.

TheOldestCat · 13/12/2007 10:21

Benefit high beam

Ease of use: 9/10
Value for money: 7/10 - expensive, but then it does last for ages.
Shimmeriness: lovely and subtle dewy pink sheen, so ok for the glitter-phobic.
Stickability: 8/10 - you might need to reapply.

yes naily that is the one i have and found no need for reapplication as it does not 'shed'

cat - i found the pencils a bit 'ordinary'

nailpolish · 13/12/2007 11:59

OMG i nearly forgot about this

cod you HAVE to try this and include in cod piece

i saw it in frasers in glasgow and its the most gorgeous brush - like a feather boa - and the diamond dust is gorgeous yet grown up and very lovely indeed

10/10
