What to wear to my own wedding (older bride)

So I’m getting married next year (date not set but likely June or September), it’s my first time after a near miss 5 years ago. Im 46 and a size 16, I don’t want to wear a proper wedding dress, I did all the wedding dress trying on etc last time and I have no interest now. I don’t want to spend £500+ on a dress for one day but I would like to wear something special obvs. We are looking to have a registry office and then meal in a lovely restaurant which we will have exclusive use of and a party at the same venue later in the evening. My friends and I are still very sociable and go out quite a bit, weekends away etc so we aren’t frumpy or past it just yet! My husband is 50 but Also a young 50 and he will wear a nice suit etc. I want a relaxed informal day where I feel comfortable but special, I don’t like my legs so maxi/midi is best really. Happy with colour if quite subtle. I have fair skin which tans ok and blonde-ish hair. Help please!

When I got married I was in my mid 50s and I wore a dress from Ghost in a sort of plum shade. Their clothes are cut on the bias so drape beautifully and are really flattering (not that you need it but I certainly did!). They have an occasions section on their website with full length dresses.

I got married at 54 in a red calf-length dress from Finery. The theory was that I could wear it again...of course I haven't yet.

This one

As already suggested Ghost dresses are beautiful.

Also have a look at some of the Halfpenny bridesmaid dresses - they do top/skirt combos which are lovely and you could wear separately again: www.halfpennylondon.com/hpl-shop/millington-top-in-dirty-pink

Have a look at Hope and Ivy

I went to Muse on kings road. I was in my 40's too - and pregnant! Got a beautiful off white chiffon 3/4 length dress. Felt like a million dollars. About £200.
God luck! Xxxx

If and when I remarry this is what’s coming my way.

I've seen several people wearing this jumpsuit in different colours - it looked stunning on: www.citychic.com.au/dresses/plus-size-jumpsuits/plus-size-jumpsuit-attract-ff-211003currant?catfilter=eyJpZCI6Ijc4OTEifQ%3D%3D

Congratulations! Wear whatever makes you feel happy 😃 When I got married 6 years ago, I was 56 and a size 22. I still wore a white lace dress 🙂

If I ever find myself remarrying I will probably wear a wide legged jumpsuit from Nancy Mac or Me+Em

WouldBeGood · 02/11/2021 08:41

I always look at those ghost dresses and think they’d make me look really matronly, and rest on my chubby bits. Has anyone more, ahem, sturdy with giant boobs worn one?

BringMeTea · 02/11/2021 11:52

@WouldBeGood I wore one. Tall with 36f norks. No one said I looked shit. Grin

WouldBeGood · 02/11/2021 12:09

🤣@BringMeTea thank you. I was not dissing the dresses, just have always dismissed them as looking like I’d be too big/fat for them! I’m actually quite pleased to hear they might suit me

BringMeTea · 02/11/2021 12:55

Ha ha I didn't think you were... the bias cut makes it skimmy and swishy.

Candleabra · 02/11/2021 18:58

I love the ghost dresses. Delphine especially.

I was pleasantly surprised at how cheap they are (relatively!) following the outrageous price hikes in lots of shops for very poor quality clothes. I was looking at a dress in All Saints that I was horrified to find was over £200.

Hopefully my weird white face & my DMs bedroom aren't too off putting. It was so comfy and felt bridal without being ott and obviously much cheaper than typical wedding dresses.[/quote]
This is gorgeous!
