What to wear to my own wedding (older bride)

So I’m getting married next year (date not set but likely June or September), it’s my first time after a near miss 5 years ago. Im 46 and a size 16, I don’t want to wear a proper wedding dress, I did all the wedding dress trying on etc last time and I have no interest now. I don’t want to spend £500+ on a dress for one day but I would like to wear something special obvs. We are looking to have a registry office and then meal in a lovely restaurant which we will have exclusive use of and a party at the same venue later in the evening. My friends and I are still very sociable and go out quite a bit, weekends away etc so we aren’t frumpy or past it just yet! My husband is 50 but Also a young 50 and he will wear a nice suit etc. I want a relaxed informal day where I feel comfortable but special, I don’t like my legs so maxi/midi is best really. Happy with colour if quite subtle. I have fair skin which tans ok and blonde-ish hair. Help please!

I was just going to add ASOS! Lots of pretty dresses and good prices

Orangesarenottheonlyfruit · 26/10/2021 08:49

Im about your size. If I was getting married again and i wanted to look trendy I would go for Rixo rixo.co.uk/collections/bridal-dresses

Sooverthemill · 26/10/2021 08:54

I got married at 40 and wore a maxi dress in burnt out velvet in navy from Monsoon via Bicester outlet. It cost £35. But if I was marrying again today I would hire something from Hurr or byRotation

phase eight jumpsuit quite bridal without being OTT

Lillibettina · 26/10/2021 09:09

I love this maxi skirt look

I'd go for a 50s style dress - a bit special, not too OTT and good if you've got a good rack Grin

Debenhams have lots of lovely similar type dresses. This is the most expensive one. There are also some knee length ones. It's where I bought my own dress. When I tried on dresses in bridal shops I couldn't see a 500 pound difference.

@Ringonrighthand - I didn’t elaborate… Wide-legged jumpsuit made from flowy fabric is almost indiscernible from a dress. Also very wearagainable

Ringonrighthand · 26/10/2021 11:54

You ladies are amazing! Thank you!

I quite like this and would have it customised to make it a bit different

I'm surprised no one has mentioned nancy mac. They are often recommended on here for wedding attire. Some beautiful elegant dresses which would be lovely on all figures.

AuntieDolly · 26/10/2021 12:55

I was just going to suggest anniemac - some lovely thinks on there

AuntieDolly · 26/10/2021 12:56

Nancymac!

@GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal

Ghost dresses are absolutely beautiful and come in all sorts of colours. John Lewis have lots, and you can filter by length, sleeve type, occasion etc.

If I was to have a second wedding, I'd wear one of them.

Me too, very classy I had a black one from the 90s that I wore for several weddings that I absolutely loved, really flattering

[quote waltzingparrot]I'd keep your eye on The Outnet and Lyst websites. Lots of special, quality dresses and good bargains.

I love this dress so much!

Notmydaughteryoubitch · 26/10/2021 23:29

@Ringonrighthand
Hopefully my weird white face & my DMs bedroom aren't too off putting. It was so comfy and felt bridal without being ott and obviously much cheaper than typical wedding dresses.

Not sure why that uploaded the same pic twice! Blush

Ringonrighthand · 28/10/2021 23:15

@Notmydaughteryoubitch you look fabulous! I love that dress! I will keep an eye on the website in the new year to see if they have shorter sleeve ones. Thank you!

Thanks to everyone for the information I’m gonna keep this thread and check back on it when it comes to shopping time!
