Your warmest winter coat?

If your budget was up to £300 for a winter coat with the idea that it would last a decade or so, what would you pick? The warmest one you can think of! Ideally parka length/covers the bum in a dark colour. I get so cold in winter and I'm thinking about just making the big investment in a more expensive but long lasting coat. All about the warmth element here. Thank you all x

@milkytwilight I'm a size 12 and bought Medium last year while they were on offer. They usually do black Friday deals if you can wait until then.

Same here. Mine is probably frumpy as hell, but keeps me well warm.

Love your one.

I love this coat. I have bought several Benetton coats in the past and they’re excellent quality.

I currently have a winter coat from this brand, don’t know yet if it will last a decade but it’s very warm and the quality is good.

My warmest coat is a 100% wool one that's lined properly. I bought it in a charity shop for a tenner.

So many of these lovely expensive coats are not waterproof. Water repellent just doesn’t cut it.

For dog walking I have a mountain warehouse 3 in 1 coat which is brilliant. But for ultimate warmth you can’t beat an ex RAF great coat. Mine is huge but the warmest item of clothing I’ve ever known.

I don’t find I ever need waterproof rather than water resistant. All depends on what kind of life you lead!

Yeah it really depends what you need, for the school runs I wouldn't want to be without a proper waterproof especially with pushing a pram you don't have hands free to hold an umbrella.

@milkytwilight I'm a 12 and have a medium North Face Smile

I also have a NF Arctic, bought the grey colour last year, very cosy! And I'm a 12 and went for a Medium, found the Small a bit too snug, especially with a jumper underneath. I love it, the thick furry hood bit is so so nice and it's definitely waterproof - I live in Scotland so that was a must!

I'm now so torn between ordering the Mountain Warehouse 3 in 1 for £89 or waiting to see if the North Face Arctic is reduced with Black Friday.

I'd think the north face one will almost certainly be better quality if you can stretch to it. But I agree it's a big stretch!

The North Face one is likely to be warmer as well - I've just double checked and it's down insulated whereas the Mountain Warehouse one is only polyester. I think if you want to go with your original goal of an expensive but very warm coat that will last ten years, you're better off with the North Face. The other one is much cheaper but probably not quite as warm and will probably not last as long. On the other hand it really depends on how warm you need it to be - if it's warm enough for you, you won't really have lost anything if it doesn't last ages as you could buy 3 of them over the next decade for the same price as a single NF one. Tricky!

The Arctic Parka will definitely be warmer and well made. I think it was 25% off last year in the the Black Friday promotion but if you need it sooner it is still a good investment as it will last you for years.

I want waterproof and the nf brooklyn parka is waterproof. Nobody plans to be caught in a downpour

My down North Face Arctic parka is way warmer than my RAB fake down one (even though that was expensive). Down is just way more cosy
