Your warmest winter coat?

milkytwilight · 05/10/2021 22:44

If your budget was up to £300 for a winter coat with the idea that it would last a decade or so, what would you pick? The warmest one you can think of! Ideally parka length/covers the bum in a dark colour. I get so cold in winter and I'm thinking about just making the big investment in a more expensive but long lasting coat. All about the warmth element here. Thank you all x

North face Artic Parka. Really warm.
Can a coat be too warm?!

Had my first one for 3 years and sold due to weight loss and it still looked immaculate and I got a good price for it - I then bought a smaller one!

MalfunctioningRobot · 06/10/2021 18:05

I have this one in the green colour www.hollisterco.com/shop/uk/p/teddy-lined-parka-47117320?categoryId=85303&seq=01&faceout=model1

It’s like being hugged by a bear! Really warm, I can only wear it on the coldest days otherwise it’s too warm.

Thanks for the Fäll Räven parka link @Declutterclogs I’ve just ordered a yellow one. We move to Norway next year and I’d vaguely had my eye out for these but never seen so (relatively) cheap. Happy to see the OP wanted a dark colour so dont feel I was snatching from under her.

milkytwilight · 06/10/2021 22:44

The Arctic Parka looks great!

I was going suggest north face artic parka too!
Have a black one that's about six years old now and still looks great.

Freeekedout · 06/10/2021 23:00

Just bought a Regatta Voltera parka. Yet to test it properly but IT HAS A HEAT PAD BUILT IN!!! Plugs into a USB charger and a section on the back gets hot. Can't wait for the cold weather to arrive so I can try out properly. RRP £200 but I got it from Amazon for £80.

WouldBeGood · 06/10/2021 23:02

My friend has a regatta navy knee length one with a battery so it warms up. It looks lovely and she says it works! £135 in their sale

WouldBeGood · 06/10/2021 23:03

@Freeekedout cross post 😃

hilbil21 · 06/10/2021 23:03

Definitely North Face Arctic Parka Smile

Freeekedout · 06/10/2021 23:08

@WouldBeGood Glad to hear your friend rates hers. I've only just got mine. There are a couple of different styles, some have more heat pads than others and some have three different heat settings.

L.L.Bean is super reliable. The link above should be filtered to their warmest women's coats.their warranty is amazing. If something happens to your coat, it tears or wears out too fast or anything, they'll replace it. I'm a coat addict and have every type of coat you could imagine from Barbour waxed to vintage furs to dressy wools and Burberry trenches. If I were buying one super warm winter coat, it would be an L.L.Bean.

aNewYorkerInLondon · 06/10/2021 23:23

I'd probably do this one in black

Most versatile and nice hood.

Declutterclogs · 07/10/2021 02:26

That's great @1frenchfoodie! Enjoy your coat, the yellow is gorgeous 😍

Blondiney · 07/10/2021 02:30

I just got this one, broke out into a sweat trying it on!

Boring old black. Was tempted by the blue but thought it might look a bit Virgin Mary. Grin
Declutterclogs · 07/10/2021 04:02

Ha yes I love that blue colour but felt like in coat form it would be either amazingly fabulous or a huge mistake and I couldn't figure out which!!!

Boring black is a very reliable choice for an all-purpose winter coat isn't it - can go everywhere and do everything. I'm just retiring my long black down puffer after 13 good years of use - I loved it the whole time!

North face Arctic Parka - warm and dry and about 10 years old and showing no signs of it - and it’s been chucked in the washing machine and tumble dried with tennis balls at least twice a year.

FangsForTheMemory · 07/10/2021 04:49

Seasalt, waterproof, breathable, parka style. Comes almost to my knees.

ManifestingJoy · 07/10/2021 08:03

I wore my brooklyn parka to work today, had to take it off before i got to the bus stop it was so hot. But in jan&feb i dont think its as warm enough. No coat is when you're standing at a bus stop in january

Interesting to know it can be washed. That didnt make it less warm??
whatisthisinhere · 07/10/2021 08:18

Another vote for the North Face arctic parka. I have had mine for over 4 years and still looks brand new. My now adult sized daughter has her eye on it, and keeps trying it on. But no way!

Randomuser9876 · 07/10/2021 08:29

I got one from Rohnisch last year and it is soooo warm and much better quality than other outdoor brands. It was like this -

milkytwilight · 07/10/2021 09:43

The North Face Arctic Parka looks brilliant. I just wish I was better was sizing! I've only ever worked with sizes 8, 10, 12 etc (buying cheaper clothes I guess) rather than actual measurements. Does anyone know if a Medium would be roughly a size 12?
