Saturday before Christmas in a country hall type place. Wedding and reception in same venue. Bear in mind freezing cold, wet and windy north east England.

Serious budgeting need as I have bugger all to spend. Everything needed down to shoes and bag (not a bag and shoes kind of gal). No hat needed.

5'6", slimish (size 12). Big feet. Brown shoulder length hair. washed out Pale skin.

Help me pleasre!

Oh yes - and I need to be able to wear at least part of it again to get money's worth.

I could've written this! same size-ish (10-12) and small feet, brown shoulder length hair, washout skin

Could you get away with wearing a little black dress, and tone it down with a cream jacket/coat and accessories? I believe monochrome is still quite "with it". I'm not much of a style guru though

popsycal · 06/12/2007 17:56

I have a little black dress but have not worn it since, erm, my hen night

my wardrobe really is a poor effort

Have you tried TK Max, I think dark colours are ok as its a winter wedding. My bridesmaid got her dress in a charity shop.

Flier · 06/12/2007 17:57

if it still fits, could you get away with wearing it, but adding a cream or white jacket, or even red.

popsycal · 06/12/2007 17:59

I really have no idea what I lookgoodin anymore or what I want .......

argh
just to add - thisis mine and dH's first 'proper' night out for years

years and years

I also was going to say wear the black dress and get a jacket in a bold colour. Also thermal underwear I know how cold the north east can be.

Flier · 06/12/2007 18:01

have you tried the dress on? see how it looks and take it from there.

popsycal · 06/12/2007 18:02

will try the dresson tonight

If it looks OK, how about a velvet jacket over it? Or a slightly more funky one here?

popsycal · 06/12/2007 18:54

I like this: in next - little brown dress

I suit brown
but it may blow the budget as need shoes etc.....

hmmm

yogimum · 06/12/2007 19:48

thats lovely, but you'll need a shawl/pashmina. New look do cheap shoes if you want to get something to match.

if you hardly ever go out then you woudl not have got much wear out of that brown dress anyway, its not the kind of thing you can wear on the school run

can you post a photo of yourself in teh black dress ? you knwo the MN fashionsitas will let you knwo if its ok and can be tarted up

popsycal · 06/12/2007 20:33

OK some good news andsomebad news......

It is actually a size 10

BUT

It fits.

However, it is slightly shorter than i remember it. Falls around an inch and a half (maybe 2 inches) above the knee.

However,legs aren't too bad.......

it is very plain black
two spaghetti width straps on each side
kind of piece over the chest then then rest of the dress if you see what i mean
very plain
