If you're 50ish, what do you wear on a night out?

I seem to have lost my going-out mojo. I aim (with varying success 😉) for understated glam - anything too bold or glitzy looks ridiculous on me, though I love fierce looks on other people. I used always to have a couple of tops that I put with good jeans or a leather skirt, to look a bit dressy, but I feel they''re too young on me now. Looking for inspiration.

@ShrikeAttack I would agree with you, but having loved wrap dresses and camel coats and other classic feminine staples I find myself at a crossroads, post-pandemic and pre-menopause at 50 that I suddenly no longer like it Grin

And I just don’t know why. Maybe I am just tired of that style. Yeah it suits me and my shape, but I am BORED with "feminine and flattering"

I want chunky shoes, baggy trousers, boho tops, batwing sweaters, mini skirts Grin

Maybe it’s a midlife crisis Wink

@MarleneDietrichsSmile I'm not advocating a way of dressing. I'm advocating being essentially yourself however that may manifest!

I'm certainly not into 'feminine and flattering'.

I’m 57 and much prefer dresses
In summer mainly linen with fancy shoes - I can’t find a picture but I have a gorgeous plain navy dress - v neck with slash sides that button up so I can show as much leg as I want on one or both sides
I love designer shoes flats or heels as long as they are pointed and edgy - my current favourites are bright cerise pink Valentino’s
In winter fine knit sweater dresses with opaques and boots - current favourite is a black all Saints one with a cowl neck and can be worn as a midi or mini

@MissLucyEyelesbarrow John Lewis has a variety of short print geometric dresses, if/when your waist is smaller, wrap dresses would also look every good on you.

I realize maxis are in (I personally hate them) I'd also suggest shopping vintage. I go the boys/mens dept all the time! I've bought great coats and I do like a menswear look. Katharine Hepburn and Marlene Dietrich in her smoking inspire me! And you can be any age and look great.

I have a style and stick to it. Right now cropped trousers are everywhere and I'm too short for them. I just wait out unflattering trends, but it's a pain.

I wear vintage 70s lurex dresses (or modern takes on it) or Vampire's Wife-type stuff because I can't afford the real thing! Lots of velvet, basically, whatever the season. I have slightly wavy very dark brown hair, centre parted and just past my shoulders so the look can be a bit Morticia but I'm perfectly ok with that Smile Brick red lipstick, vintage doctors bags, and either chunky lace up boots or gold flats (can't wear heels because my feet are mangled with RA).

My daytime look isn't too different from my evening look really!

Forgot to say, I'm 49 (just!).

@GoldFrankensteinAndGrrr
I love Morticia; she's a pin-up in my book!
