Boden

I used to easily spend £200 on Boden a month and knew it would fit me and that I'd like it. I can't even find one thing I like these days, what happened?
@KimDeals don’t get me wrong I have a couple of the fitted ottoman work dresses and mini skirts - but they are not so much in fashion now which is why they don’t do them. It’s all more floaty and baggy at the moment - midis and wide jeans.

@SirenSays Grin
@Blessex I loved their ottoman dresses.

And I agree with a pp that said the majority of colours seem to cater for Spring/Autumn colourings. I'm Winter and I was only able to get items in certain blues that suited my skin tone. Most of the dresses I bought were navy, royal blue or green.

TeaAddict235 · 17/09/2021 21:55

But @Blessex the tone of their 'bright print' that you are referring to often are an odd colour. Like not turquoise, but pale grey blue; or not navy blue but duck egg blue spots on a white shirt; not just rich plum purple, but a date brownish purple top. Get my drift? They need to do more deep and rich colours and not always off colours. I can't wear Farrow and Ball thanks Johnnie Wink

Same with White stuff. We are not all Miss Poppins. Things can be plain and stylish. You don't have to look like you are wearing the bloody tablecloth to work, or are a children's entertainer as a pp said.

Boden / White Stuff / Fat Face all seem to have been getting it more and more wrong for years. Awful prints, horrid fabric, baggy shapeless cuts, stupidly expensive. H&M is sometimes OK but it's like rummaging through a jumble sale to find the few gems.

This is why I prefer shopping online. I know my style and can’t be bothered wading through stuff on rails to find it! H&Ms app is very user friendly and they give free returns.

Boden's ottoman dresses are my staple. but now only flowery tents for £140 are available it would appear. Sad times.

DoodlesMam · 23/10/2021 19:36

@foxgoosefinch

They seem to have made another big price hike - I stopped buying their women’s stuff years ago (last time they hiked their prices iirc), and now only buy occasional kids’ items on sale.

IMO quite a few retailers seem to have decided that now is the time to recoup some of their Covid losses by hiking prices. I’m not sure it’s going to work for them, though.

I also hate the “jolly print” look! Some of their patterns and appliqué things I can’t imagine any adult women wearing, but they do seem to sell 🤷‍♀️ I clearly don’t move in the right circles! 😆

The prints on the dresses are awful. I am not sure about the Ravello top but you can find them new on Ebay if you look carefully. They sent me a £10 voucher last week and I was unable to spend it as nothing was worth buying. First time in 10 years. Mrs D.

I just got this Boden coat and I’m in love with it. It’s so soft, cosy and beautifully finished 🙂

Thanks @dudsville 🙂

You look great in that! I'm quite tempted by it.
AnnieSnap · 23/10/2021 21:57

@MrsPsmalls Thanks 🙂 having an NHS discount and a £10 gift voucher made the price much more palatable. It is much better quality than one I saw in River Island for £110

DoodlesMam · 23/10/2021 22:39

That coat is lovely - there are just no dresses I can find.

Westnsouthnabout · 23/10/2021 23:14

Any good alternatives please to boden.. used to love it and need alteenative ...

AnnieSnap · 23/10/2021 23:46

@DoodlesMam Yes, the dresses are not good. I have bought two this season from & Other Stories, one in the sale from Summer, but it really works with a sleeveless (or sleeved) jumper or cardigan and other plain black (I rarely wear black other than my leather Jacket and boots). I just had to have it, so it’s the first item of clothing that I’ve paid full price for in years.

VillKrill · 23/10/2021 23:49

It’s full of frumpy, overpriced, synthetic crap IME - the idea of anyone spending £200 per month on Boden frankly blows my mind! Even their (previously good) kids’ clothes are now noticeably lower quality than they were, and the flimsiness of their girls’ clothes compared to boys’ is really annoying (but that’s not unique to Boden, sadly)

DoodlesMam · 24/10/2021 17:24

I work full time and have had to do so all through pandemic. Boden chinos, richmonds, and the plain ottoman dresses were my staple work clothes. As a mid 50s worker at a reasonably formal place I like the fit and did like the style but floral maxi dreses with no structure and frankly overpriced hippy nonsense (the current trend for floral max/midaxi) is really getting me down. I have a few things that are not worn out but will have to sit this season out. At least I will save money eh!

NHS discount 😯 never knew about that. Hmmm might have to look at the catalogue again.

AnnieSnap · 24/10/2021 19:42

@whataboutbob if you work in the NHS, get yourself registered with BluelightCard www.bluelightcard.co.uk/ You get a card to use in shops and discount codes to use online. Loads of companies offer discounts through them, including lots of fashion and sports retailers, beauty, including Charlotte Tilbury! We pay about £4 to register with them, but I have saved a fortune. Boden currently offer 25% off with their codes, sometimes, it goes up to 30%. Enjoy 😀

whataboutbob · 24/10/2021 20:10

Thanks so much for the tip @AnnieSnap. Flowers

AnnieSnap · 24/10/2021 20:29

My pleasure @whataboutbob

JuneFromBethesda · 24/10/2021 20:47

SO many flowery tents @DoodlesMam. Not that they’re alone in that of course, the high sheet is still awash with bloody tiered puffed quasi-Amish sacks Angry I am so over it, and really struggling to find simple stylish flattering clothes at the moment (admittedly the extra ten lockdown pounds don’t help Sad )

Boden really are taking the puffs and tiers and flounces to the next level though - the fucking Sloane Rangeresque frilled collars, my god …

JuneFromBethesda · 24/10/2021 20:50

But you do look great in that coat @AnnieSnap Smile

AnnieSnap · 24/10/2021 21:18

Thank you @JuneFromBethesda 🙂

DoodlesMam · 24/10/2021 21:33

The coat did look fab

#Amish sacks: so literal and that made me laugh out loud! I totally agree. I like neat and plain (colourful is fine) but not chintz.....

ColdTattyWaitingForSummer · 24/10/2021 22:06

BTW the jersey midi dress linked on page one is now down to £32 (also haven’t ordered anything for ages, but quite tempted by that one!) Agree that prices have hiked though, although still love my older dresses and Breton tees.
