Will I look silly in DMs?

On a whim, I bought a pair of "Docs" on eBay. Used, but in excellent condition. A good price, and purple!

I'd always fancied a pair but never gotten around to it. Now I'm wondering if I've made a mistake.

I have biggish feet (7), am 52 and look every minute of it; I've aged terribly in the past few years. Also not so pretty, and a bit chubby.

Will I look like an old lady trying to be cool? Will my feet look enormous? Should I care?

(Have 3 daughters with the same size of feet, so they won't be wasted!)

Thanks.

@SmellsLikeMiddleAgeSpirit We can just to be cool and do it! 😎

AnnieSnap · 11/09/2021 23:47

Mine are just DM style. I have heard that actual DMs take forever to become comfortable. Life is too short for sore feet.

Candleabra · 11/09/2021 23:49

Wear them and love them

Branleuse · 11/09/2021 23:53

Theyre just DMSs. Theyre not an unusual shoe

ShrikeAttack · 12/09/2021 00:10

I agree with @Branleuse, I'm your age @SmellsLikeMiddleAgeSpirit, I wouldn't think twice about wearing DMs (I don't because they aren't my thing), I buy and wear things because I like them, not because I worry about if they're age (or foot-size) appropriate.

Wear what you want, really, you'll look far better if you're bold in your choices and really wear them, rather than being apologetic and unsure.

I absolutely guarantee that no-one will look at you askance!

I agree - it's like the DM sandals - everyone from teens to middle aged Mummies and older have them.
Gilead · 12/09/2021 01:32

63, I have more than 10 pairs of docs, including purple. Size nine feet, 5’6” and size 20.

ShrikeAttack · 12/09/2021 01:41

Don't say 'middle-aged mummies' @MrsMaizel.

Ageist bollox.

gunnersgold · 12/09/2021 08:41

They are everywhere this AW! So many dupes you won't feel out of place !

StarfishDish · 12/09/2021 09:45

I've got 11 pairs and love them with my dungarees. Grin

@Branleuse Its only the past couple of years they've become popular though Smile
MrsMaizel · 12/09/2021 09:52

@ShrikeAttack

Don't say 'middle-aged mummies' *@MrsMaizel*.

Ageist bollox.

Is saying teen and older women ageist bollox too ?

The reason I say that is because I have noticed this summer that indeed the people who embrace the obvious fashion trends are those women about the early 40 age with children !

StarfishDish · 12/09/2021 10:05

@MrsMaizel I agree with you.

Branleuse · 12/09/2021 10:50

@starfishDish
I dont think thats true. Theyve always had a huge following. I got my first pair at 16 in 1992 and have usually had a pair on the go since then.
Id say the last few years they have become more mainstream, but theyve never bedn unpopular or unusual in my lifetims

SmellsLikeMiddleAgeSpirit · 12/09/2021 10:54

@StarfishDish I love DMs and dungarees!

@Branleuse Sorry, I meant as popular as they are now, if that makes sense? Smile This is from somebody who was laughed at school for wearing them (and gets massively annoyed when I see people who laughed and ridiculed me now wearing them!) Grin

@SmellsLikeMiddleAgeSpirit How do you wear them in winter? Jumpers underneath make me look 6 sizes bigger!

Thatsplentyjack · 12/09/2021 11:12

I just got a pair and mine are an 8 so I wouldn't worry about them looking too big. I can't wait yo get mine on, but it's still too bloody hot!

Iwantcauliflowercheese · 12/09/2021 11:43

20 years older than you. I have six pairs and get loads of compliments.

Purplecatshopaholic · 12/09/2021 11:54

They sound awesome. As do you. Wear them! (I have the furry DM sandals, wear them all the time - I’m around your age and give no fucks!)

SmellsLikeMiddleAgeSpirit · 12/09/2021 12:06

@StarfishDish I too look enormous with jumper under dungas, so when it's cooler I do t-shirt or vest top under, and then short cardigan over.
I like to think I look a bit like this:
