I'm in love with these boots

boots

My problems are":

  • they're a lot of money. It they were comfortable, go with everything, wear everyday until they fall apart boots, I'd justify it to myself, but they're not.
  • I only actually have one outfit I can see me wearing them with, a wine coloured short knitted dress
  • as a general rule I don't wear black or red. My "neutrals" are navy and grey and my pallet is sweet pea summer. I don't even have black opaques to go with the dress, I usually wear navy. [Grin]
  • I can't even see how to make them work with jeans, too long for skinnies and pointless under wide leg jeans, which would be all wrong anyway (?)

Can I make them work for their money?

I love DMs but also find them uncomfortable and they wouldn't work with most of my clothes. I wouldn't spend that much on something I'd barely wear.

Aerish · 07/09/2021 18:23

I have just bought some Vegan Dr Martens from Blue Banana. They have £20 off a £100 spend

Is this them?

Wow those are nice Grin I don't know if I'd have the confidence to wear them... what else would you wear them with besides a skirt?

Also the 'Clearpay' option is very trustworthy.

I mooned after them for years, got them for my birthday and they are so bloody uncomfortable they never seen the light of day

I did this too! Wanted a pair of Dr Martens for so so long, got them and they were too painful to even consider walking in. I was told they are super comfortable after a breaking in period or I should beat them with a hammer.. but I decided to give up!
BrettAndersonscheekbones · 07/09/2021 18:48

They are pretty fabulous. I wear 'ordinary' docs with everything.

TrevorWithTheWeather · 07/09/2021 18:51

Docs go with everything!

AtPanAtPan · 07/09/2021 18:56

Could you search for a second hand pair for less money? Also I know not great for the environment, but what is their returns policy? Could you order them to try them and see if you’re actually as besotted with them in real life? If no, at least you tried them and know

Campervan69 · 07/09/2021 18:59

Get them second hand. Then they are already broken in and you are being environmentally friendly.

ISpyCobraKai · 07/09/2021 19:01

Dd has the shoe versions of those and I love them.

Bananasarnie · 07/09/2021 19:02

I’d go for something a bit plainer and more versatile in case you get tired of the pattern. To be honest, I wouldn’t bother. The boots in M&S are beautiful at the moment. You could buy 3 or 4 pairs or a couple of pairs and a beautiful coat or jacket for the price of the DM’s.

ChickyNuggies · 07/09/2021 19:05

I have tried on and off for ages but they never got any comfier!!!

Zooforhouse · 07/09/2021 19:11

If you buy and change your mind after a while you’d get almost what you paid for them on e bay (assuming you are an average-ish size.

Ohpulltheotherone · 07/09/2021 19:13

Dr Martin’s does not rate well on the ethical/ sustainable score so if you really wanted a pair then going for a preloved pair is not only better for the environment, it’s cheaper.
Try DePop / vinted

Divebar2021 · 07/09/2021 19:20

There are many pairs for sale on eBay.

TravellingJack · 07/09/2021 19:22

I have these... among many others! I just wear them with either skinnies tucked in, under dark cropped or rolled up jeans/trousers, or black tights and dress/skirt. I live in DMs most of autumn/winter as they're comfortable on me and keep my feet warm and dry, so I'm not too fussed if I'm not wearing them the 'right' way!

NeverTrustaRabbit · 07/09/2021 20:00

I'm waiting for these for winter! www.drmartens.com/uk/en_gb/collaborations/marc-jacobs

But I love the Vonda too. Go for it.....you can always sell them on

BrilloPaddy · 07/09/2021 20:10

I've got a pair of Flora boots that I've lived in, and a pair of rigger boots that I wear for dog walks on dry days.

They're bastards to break in, but once you've done so, they're the best shoes ever. I do a lot of walking at work and love them.

MissJeanBrodiesprime · 07/09/2021 20:35

I love them! I think they’d look great with black skinnies.

Letthelightoflove · 07/09/2021 20:40

At school we used to break in our DMs by getting one of those with a driving licence and access to a car, to run them over a few times in the school car park Grin

They look like a nightmare to break in and to lace up.

FleetwoodRaincoat · 07/09/2021 20:41

I have these and they're my favourite boots. I wear them with short and long black skirts in the winter.

They don't really go with jeans though.

Shylo · 07/09/2021 20:47

We have a pair of these - my daughter only wore them twice Before she grew out of them because they Were so uncomfortable. I think I wore them more than that round the house trying to break them in for her lol

Size 4 if you’re interested :)

HelloChompy · 08/09/2021 14:29

I have them! They were a present a few years ago - they were a fair bit cheaper then! I didn't find them too bad to break in and they have a side zip so once they have been laced they are really easy. I wear them with skirts, leggings and skinny jeans 🙂
