How many jumpers/cardis do you own? Just curious, come in for a wardrobe chat

Just about to end my mat leave and have been studying my wardrobe over these months in order to prep and feel more “on point” for when I am back to work. I have given away a lot of stiff to chairty and carefully selected items which I love and are in good condition. I also did a bit of shopping and this is what I currently have in my wardrobe knitwear-wise:

  • 2 grey jumpers of different shape/texture
  • 1 black jumper
  • 3 navy jumpers, two of which have a pattern on it so they all look different despite same color
  • pink mohair jumper
  • 1 grey long cardi
  • 1 multicolor cardi

These are all fairly good quality (not super luxury but not even primark stuff)
Should I buy more? How many knitwwear pieces do you own and wear regularly?

Interestingly almost none of my knitwear is office appropriate. I prefer a patterned jacket or blazer
From memory I have the following:
Grey boxy fit cardi
Long, bright green hooded chunky knit cardi
Boxy multicoloured (ombré?) chunky knit cardi
Black and white striped oversized jumper
Black oversized half sleeve chunky knit jumper/dress
Neon yellow oversized jumper
Neon yellow boxy fit jumper
Bright Orange cable knit boxy fit polo neck jumper

In summary, unless it’s boxy or oversized I won’t buy it!

ApolloandDaphne · 29/08/2021 13:39

Blimey I must have 40 or so jumpers and cardigans! I wear jumpers all the time in the winter as a top rather than over a top so they are washed each time.

Marghe87 · 29/08/2021 14:09

@Chocolatecoatedkettlebell ahahha I also like boxy/over fit. I must get some brighter colors for days off.
@ApolloandDaphne I wish I could afford 40 jumpers, I am obsessed with knitwear but I like good quality pieces so cannot go crazy buying dozens of stuff like I used to when I used to shop in H&M etc years ago

I must have a crew necked cardigan in every colour ever invented, apart from yellow.

MollyVolley · 29/08/2021 15:26

I adore wearing jumpers and am definitely prefer autumn/winter. I did a massive cull last winter and then replaced a couple so I have 13 apparently (after looking)

  1. Oversized cream and blue high neck from Reiss (in sale)
  2. See by Chloe polo neck cropped multi coloured (charity haul)
3.A cream ribbed polo neck jumper that I read on the Les Parisiennes threads a French shop but it is very fitted and very warm so not sure if I will keep it.
  1. Black Arket cotton jumper with a high neck and lots open knitted bits (technical term Wink)
  2. & 6 2 X Genevieve Sweeney jumpers (1 x cashmere & 1 x merino I think?) love her stuff but it is a treat!
  3. Pink Arket cropped jumper
  4. A Victoria Beckham cropped jumper in a really pale green which I bought off the outnet
  5. Ancient M&S Kelly Green boiled wool long cardigan
10.And a cropped sort of bolero knitted thing that I bought on holidays in Italy in 2006 which I love 11.mohair grey oversized leopard print from Jesire and again over 10 years old 12. Have had to go back up cause I have forgotten in the last few minutes - & Other Stories mustard fitted cropped jumper 13. Another ancient purchase a Paul & Joe cropped and oversized orange knitted jumper. So not that many I don't think. I've definitely got a style either cropped or oversized which I think helps cause they work for me
Marghe87 · 29/08/2021 16:03

@MollyVolley didn’t know the Genevieve S brand. Now I want everything🤣

I know!!! @Marghe87 her stuff is amazing!!

lindyloo57 · 29/08/2021 16:16

I feel the cold so have to wear jumpers in the winter, my problem is I hate jumpers and sweatshirts so alway feel scruffy when I wear them, I have a small collection of cashmere jumpers around 6 which replaced cheaper h&m acrylic which I never buy anymore, what else can I wear to feel warm but not scruffy in the winter. I do like longer midi style cardigens, I only have two at the moment, can't afford a cashmere one but looking for a wool blend one.

Timeandtune · 29/08/2021 16:20

I have one navy oversize cable knit and 1 blue v neck jumper
Cardigans in navy , black, bottle green.aubergine and duck egg
A cashmere hoody in pale green
That’s it!

woodhill · 29/08/2021 16:20

Far too many especially cardis

I keep them for years and have Summer and Winter ones

Marghe87 · 29/08/2021 16:22

@lindyloo57 how about a nice warm blazer with a basic long sleeves thermal top?

OP posts:
SalsaLove · 29/08/2021 16:32

Hmmm, let’s see. I got a proper cashmere cardigan in light grey
A dark grey long line cardigan
A chunky belted cardigan
A red jumper for December
A burgundy long line cardigan
Jumpers are awful on me because of my xxl breast size and hot flushes.

lindyloo57 · 29/08/2021 16:49

@Marghe87 I do have plenty of thermal tops from m& s, not sure about a blazer for indoors.

Marghe87 · 29/08/2021 16:56

@lindyloo57 oh I see, I thought you meant for work. Then I think sleek jumpers and cardis is the only way :)

5 cardigans, 7 jumpers. The cardigans are all midweight but the jumpers are all different thicknesses and colours.

HundredMilesAnHour · 29/08/2021 17:31

I have far too many jumpers to count. I think I'm obsessed with them. I look forward to cold weather as I can't wait to wear jumpers again.

I think I have maybe 50?? That's just a guess. I tend to buy quality (lots of cashmere, sometimes merino) and look after them so I have them for years - and still buy new ones.

I have 5-6 jumpers by Christopher Kane so beautiful with a twist (e.g. chainmail fringing down the sleeve). And maybe 10 classic jumpers from & Daughter (always bought in the sale). They're all handmade and will last forever.

But I don't do cardigans. Ever.

1forAll74 · 29/08/2021 18:11

I have got lots of fluffy jumpers and cardigans in different colours. I prefer fluffy cardigans, and sometimes find a lovely fluffy jumper, and alter it, and make it into a cardigan.. I cant stand jackets, as don't like things with collars or high necks.

StarfishDish · 29/08/2021 18:44

4 x Chunky Knit Cardigans (I made one myself Grin)
4 x Thin long cardigans.
1 x Short Cardigan
About 10 jumpers

luckylavender · 29/08/2021 20:02

None. I don't wear jumpers or cardis ever.

ShrikeAttack · 29/08/2021 20:04

Loads! I don't know how many, maybe 60? I have lightweight, midweight and chunky knits, crew, v, polo and rollneck. Mid and longlength, a few cropped. All cashmere, merino and a few angora and lambswool. Mainly single colour, navy, black, burgundy, cream and camel. About five striped.

About 15 cardigans. No crew-neck cardigans though!

Brands?

Joseph
Margaret Howell
Raey
Navygrey
APC
Maxmara
Winser London
Brora
Then Chloè, Saint Laurent, Marni, Sonia Rykiel and a few others.

I loves me a knit!

ShrikeAttack · 29/08/2021 20:05

@luckylavender, what do you wear in Winter??

TableNiner · 29/08/2021 20:18

I feel the cold but jumpers are tricky for me. They can make me look v scruffy as per previous poster, and are often not very flattering on bigger busts (cable knit I'm looking at you). So I only wear very fine jumpers and otherwise cardigans, cardigans, cardigans - they break up the bust line nicely.

JaceLancs · 29/08/2021 20:23

Loads
Packed away so can’t count
At a guess 40/50 jumpers
30/40 cardigans
Some are very fine for layering - or lightweight eg cool summer evening
Others very chunky
Mostly plain colours or stripes

luckylavender · 29/08/2021 21:18

@ShrikeAttack - shirts. Jacket for a smart work day. Jumpers / cardis make me look huge as I have narrow shoulders and a big chest, so they hide my greatest asset and emphasise my chest. I also feel a bit claustrophobic in a jumper.
