How would you style this dress for a wedding?

I’m excited to fit into this after working hard so please be kind about it! I’ve light skin and dark brown hair. The dress is knee length on me.

I need a cardi (are boleros still a thing?) and to decide on shoes.

What colours would you put with it? I was wondering about silver? I think something too bold could overpower the dress as it’s pretty pale.

Thanks!

Wouldn't a bolero cover up the detailing on the straps? If you want something to cover arms or keep you from getting chilly maybe a shawl or pashmina type thing would be better?

As for colours, silver/champagne or nude shoes I think would be best.

Bluntness100 · 27/08/2021 12:03

I personally think pashminas are a little dated now.

I’d go for a shrug in a pale colour and nude sandals.

Here's a similar colour as your dress. Surprisingly, I think the blush pink goes really well with it. Love the style of the sandals the model is wearing.

Either nude or tan if you're reluctant for something bold, although I'll be honest, I think it would look great with bold red lips, shoes and bag, not sure on the cardigan front, I always struggle with it myself!

I think the shrug looks more dated than a pashmina.

CampaignToo · 27/08/2021 12:14

A shrug, bolero, jacket or cardigan would ruin that dress. Some sort of wrap is the way to go even if it is dated

Mosaic123 · 27/08/2021 12:42

Pale grey pashmina, silver jewellery, silver or grey shoes. Bangle of silver with a little black (like the detailing on the shoulders).

Winederlust · 27/08/2021 13:04

Shrugs are very dated, whilst a pashmina/shawl are pretty classic and timeless imo. Plus they'd not cover the strap detail quite so much.

Chocolatecoatedkettlebell · 27/08/2021 13:26

I’ll wade in on the pashmina vs shrug debate… neither!
It’s a lovely dress and someone told me recently that lemon yellow is the next big thing. (They were selling me something lemon yellow at the time though)
I would wear a boyfriend fit blazer with that, maybe just on my shoulders. Agree with others about grey and blush pink being good colours but I also think that you can now wear black to a wedding and a black blazer could look really striking. Assume it will come off for dinner and dancing anyway to show of the shoulders.

Yellowbowlbanana · 27/08/2021 13:30

Yes to the blazer idea. Is it a UK wedding soon? I'd be a bit worried about being cold so a blazer would help with that too

ItWasPeculiarButBearable · 27/08/2021 18:57

Oh thanks everyone! I was wondering if shrug / bolero was a bit dated - seems there’s no consensus! I’m 39 so generally kind of clinging to still being young but not wanting to look like a try-hard!

I hadn’t even thought about a blazer. Isn’t that a bit businessy? Could you please link a few you think would go? I’m generally a colourful person but wary of looking like an ice lolly!

This might work?

Pinkcadillac · 27/08/2021 20:03

I love boyfriend blazers with dresses. So stylish. Agree that a black one would look amazing. Also a golden cream one - a champagne colour

Nowisthemonthofmaying · 27/08/2021 20:10

Definitely a blazer - shrugs, pashminas etc are not in at all at the moment. Not black though, it'll be overpowering, it works on the straps as it's only a small amount. I'd probably go for a bright pink like this

frogswimming · 27/08/2021 20:13

What colour is the detailing? Is it black or brown with diamanté? It's hard to see, but I would base what I wore on that. Shoes and blazer in the same colour.

gunnersgold · 27/08/2021 22:01

I'd wear a white blazer !

Alternista · 27/08/2021 22:06

Something like this?

CaMePlaitPas · 27/08/2021 22:12

A bright blue blazer and nude heels! Or black blazer and blue heels. Stay away from pashminas and shawls unless you are over 70.

dudsville · 27/08/2021 22:19

What is it that you love most about this dress? I'm asking because, as some others have said, it's not meant to be covered up. I imagine you looking at the dress with excitement that you'll get to wear it (been there!). The eye is drawn to the amazing shoulder detail, which will be lost of you cover it up. But if something else, colour, fabric, fit, etc ., is what you love about it then the blazer is the current choice.

Divebar2021 · 27/08/2021 22:24

Definitely the blazer… I’m partial to blush but when is this wedding? That’s very much a spring / summer dress.

pleasekeeptotheright · 27/08/2021 22:28

Jeez, please don't wear that sheepy shrug thing Blush awful

Jangle33 · 28/08/2021 07:35

Unless it’s boiling day I’d wear something different - I don’t think it’ll look great covered up at all. If it’s a high fashion wedding then maybe with a blazer but I think you might just feel out of place.

Palavah · 28/08/2021 07:45

Great colour combos with that yellow:
Cobalt blue
Silver grey
Aubergine purple - think Cate Blanchette at the Oscars.

Bag/shoes could be metallic.

What type of venue and when/where is it? You'd want a blazer or something for a church ceremony and could take it off for the reception.

Oh I love this Zara blazer! With a blazer like this you basically have a two wow outfits for day and evening, and I think it works for most seasons too.

Laughed at the ice cream analogy you made OP but I don’t think you will look like one. The blazer is structured enough to not look twee. Accessories will be key if you go down the pink route.

nuro · 28/08/2021 09:06

Definitely a blazer or a faux fur bomber for me.
I've been wearing blazers over dresses to weddings for decades I love that look
