Which shoes with this prom dress?

Onandoff · 19/08/2021 22:08

DD’s prom.
I don’t do dresses. Or heels. Help me please.
It’s dark red sparkly floor length, low back. Figure hugging then subtle fishtail bottom. Stretchy.
What colour and style of shoes might be best? It definitely needs a heel.

How old is she? Surely its her decision and whatever shoes she feels comfortable and can walk in- despite you not doing dresses or heels Confused

If its a full length gown with a fishtail, you will barely see the shoes! Obviously depending how comfortable she is wearing heels, I'd go for a low, simple heel. Silver, if the sparkle in the dress is silver, or gold.

WaitinginVain · 19/08/2021 22:17

Without seeing the dress I would say silver high heeled sandals or maybe a closed toe/sling back. Possibly gold/rose gold or black could work as well though.

Onandoff · 19/08/2021 22:42

She’s 16. She doesn’t know either. She’ll pocket them it just will be helpful to understand what might work

We need a photo!

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 19/08/2021 23:01

def need a picture of the dress!!!

Littlebutload · 19/08/2021 23:03

Depending on the colour of the sparkle, I'd go for silver or gold stappy sandal.

Elouera · 19/08/2021 23:03

She'll pocket them What does this mean OP? She will pay for them? Confused

Can you post a pic of the dress?

haha I'm shattered tonight and I assumed it literally meant she'd take them off and put in her pocket for dancing etc-just wear to pose Grin

I need to go to bed

birdsong7 · 19/08/2021 23:14

Black, strappy, open toe.
Closed toe heels are very office attire I think and definitely not right for a 16 year old.

Go for something with a bit of a thicker heel for comfort & stability. Get some gel insoles because her feet will definitely hurt regardless.

New look usually have loads of great options if you're shopping high street & not designer.

Yeah I thought it meant they were just for show and would be taken off
Bufffy · 19/08/2021 23:21

Does she need to wear heels? If she’s tall enough I’d go flats … if you’re not used to heels her feel will kill!

But if you insist on heels something with a. chunky heel and either black or gold

I think it's a typo for she will 'pick' them?

Agree with black strappy sandals. Not keen on the very chunky ones above. What about something like this, or these have a chunkier heel but are still reasonably dainty.

MazDazzle · 19/08/2021 23:35

I’d go for black straps shoes. Something like this…

You can’t go wrong with black and she could wear them again in the future. Chances are, as soon as the dancing starts she’ll take them off. I work in a secondary school and most of the girls bring trainers or fluffy bed socks in their bag!

birdsong7 · 19/08/2021 23:35

Yes! Agree with pp. definitely want something dainty.

stripedbananas · 19/08/2021 23:58

Black, silver or gold should be fine that's what we'd go for.

Yes typo sorry. She will pick them. Definitely needs a heel. Dress very Jennifer Lopez and DD only 5’3

Pity that your DD is taking part in this, cannot offer any suggestions, other than a shoe that can be worn again not a one-off.

Why pity? It’s just a party.

I don't think black would work necessarily. We went silver with a deep red dress. Depends on jewellery too and any clutch bag. I have got dd2 some roll up silver handbag shoes which surprisingly she is agreeable to taking to her prom (probably because when it was cancelled they had a make do prom and she now realises how uncomfortable her heels actually are).

DialSquare · 20/08/2021 10:40

Would a kitten heel work? Something like this?

Maybe something with an open toe though?

ashmts · 20/08/2021 11:36

Did you look at my links? They definitely have heels? What did you think?

I'd really avoid silver, it's the kind of combination I'd have worn to my prom but looking back I think it's a bit tacky. Also black heels are so versatile, they'll definitely be worn again.

Agree with this!! Black is definitely classier

stripedbananas · 20/08/2021 18:26

White, cream, gold go for a light colour to look younger I think black is probably to aging.

stripedbananas · 20/08/2021 18:31

Try New Look they should have a decent selection of heels in a lighter colour
