Short fat bridesmaids dress

My friend is getting married in a few weeks and has asked me to be maid of honour. It's a low key wedding - registry office followed by fancy restaurant, a dozen guests and the bride is wearing a gorgeous blue bridesmaid style/prom dress.

She has given me free rein over my own outfit but I want to do her proud - I've been burying my head in the sand till now. I'm a size 18, only 5'4" with small bust, broad shoulders. I can wear small heals. Would like to spend less than £100 unless it's spectacular! Would love if it's a recommendation of somewhere I can visit rather than order online but of course online is fine.

Any suggestions of where to look?

If the bride will be wearing a blue bridesmaid dress, do you want a short dress in another colour? or do you want a proper bridesmaid style dress?

waltzingparrot · 06/08/2021 21:27

Can you get to John Lewis - huge range of styles to choose from. They do a free one to one personal styling service.

puglovesbooks · 07/08/2021 22:06

Ooh. I missed these replys thanks!!! I'm going to visit John Lewis tomorrow. I will check out what else is in the big shopping centre they might have a Monsoon and I will google ChiChi because that dress is lovely though I worry how it will look with small boobs 😢

Almost none of the size 18/20 dresses on Chi Chi are in stock 😭

@Pinkcadillac

Yes good question! I'm thinking a dress in a pale blue (brides is royal blue) or complimentary colour. Wedding theme is green and blue so maybe a green dress for me? I def want a knee length one I think, brides is floor length.

They have it in silver and blue too!

puglovesbooks · 08/08/2021 18:57

@DwangelaForever what do they have in silver and blue?? It's a mystery 😃

Thanks @Feedingthebirds1 I really like that sequinned one and I will have a proper look at that site too

I really like the first link that @Feedingthebirds1 posted from ASOS.
Really annoying that chichi have so many out of stock!
Coast is another good place to try

How did you get I'm at John Lewis? It's hard finding something that's smart enough that isn't a maxi dress - I'm 5ft0 so feel your pain

MavisMonkey · 08/08/2021 19:23

Maybe wrong type of blue and only left in a 20

@MavisMonkey I really like that 3rd coast one. It gets so expensive having to keep ordering and returning dresses! I have two waiting to be returned already.

I didn't try on anything at JL. I saw a few from PhaseEight which were gorgeous but £150++ as you say loads of maxi dresses which just aren't going to work. Feeling a bit despondent (and fat).

I will find something though! Looking at a couple from Debenhams now

Oh I think it probably is too dark but absolutely gorgeous. Might ask the bride.

Both lovely but I'm too short for them

It's tough isn't it- last time I needed an occasion dress I ended up with about £1000 on a credit card as I had so many ordered - they all went back!!
What about this one- I love the ones with sequins but feel one without would be more wearable afterwards to get your money's worth

That is gorgeous. I've ordered form Curvissa before and had terrible customer service trying to return something so a bit reluctant to order anything from them
