i think they look sweet but some of my friends relly hate this look. but then i hate the surfer/skateboarder/footballer/soldier look they all dress their toddlers in. omg and if i see another newborn dressed up as a rabbit or bear i think i will scream!!

I suppose I am thinking of babies in uncle edward - rather than small children. My DD's (2) winter wardrobe consists almost entirely of pinnies that she wears with tights and a jumper under or over (also very Aunt Ermintrude). One old Viyella skirt with a cotton vest attached that used to belong to me, a couple of cord pinnies, a plaid one with a pleated kilt-like lower half, etc.

my two bigger boys wore polo shirts, soft cotton sailing trousers, t-shirts and plain cotton sweaters and thinking about it - they still wear that at 15 and 12.

RabbitBurns · 30/11/2007 13:23

My DS (19m) looks like a mini version of his dad - chinos, cords or moleskins, proper shirts or polo shirts, plain crewneck sweaters. NO Bob the Builder or Thomas the Tank Engine clothes (for either of them )

nappyaddict · 01/12/2007 12:03

if little boys can't wear suits what are they meant to wear to weddings etc?

Smartish pair of trousers (chino-type things maybe) and a proper shirt with buttons. That seems perfectly acceptable to me, nappyaddict.

meglet · 03/12/2007 20:46

My 1yr DS has a smart tank top with cordroy trousers for best.

I do like bunny ears for teeny tiny newborns though!

mollymawk · 03/12/2007 20:58

My DH loves tank tops and cords, for hm and for the two DSs. Any chance he gets he puts himself and them into matching outfits.
However, my brother is getting married in May and DH is threatening to get suits and ties for the DSs (aged 4 and 2!!!!!). What's worse, I'm expecting DC3 just before the wedding and if that is a boy it will be in serious danger of being bought a suit too.

I hate chinos on anyone.

. . .you can just hear the braying voice.

coldtits · 05/12/2007 11:45

I feel sorry for boys in expensive clothes. You just KNOW they are being hissed at where ever they go "Do NOT go rolling on the grass in those trousers!"

Ds1 has several character tops too - he is four, not forty, he doesn't need to look like a successful stockbroker on a weekend in the Peak District.

ds has nice tank tops (and one with sailing scene) which is really lovely

i love primary colours on boys actually
ds really suits red

he is very fussy and if tank tops pass his test then ...they pass mine too..
they are practical too

lol at the stockbroker in peak district description!

PaulaYatesbiggestfan · 05/12/2007 16:10

no spiderman/batman etc here
no charactersat all really
no no to newborn ears
colours though - lots of
red kickers -tank tops messy waist coats scarves etc
then my boys have hair and lots of it!

PaulaYatesbiggestfan · 05/12/2007 16:12

i am a sucker for shirts with grandad collars and tank tops or waist coats

OverMyDeadStuffedTurkey · 05/12/2007 18:41

While I'm still in control over what DS wears, his wardrobe is full of cords, shirts, stripy tops, rugby tops, jumpers, jeans and combats (but never in camouflage!!), and I don't care how dirty he gets them when he's playing!

Also like lots of white in the summer, bleach is great!

Absolutely, under NO circumstances, is DS to ever leave the house wearing tracky bums (shudder) unless we're camping.

OverMyDeadStuffedTurkey · 05/12/2007 18:42

yes to lots of colours, mismatched clothes, layers, stripes, vintage stuff, holey jumpers and tights on boys! I lke scruffy chic

largeginandtonic · 05/12/2007 19:01

Me too and bloomers on boys Tights underneath when cold

kizzie · 05/12/2007 19:04

is this the thread where I can register my general 'fed up ness' with the fact that most shops have acres of girls clothes and then 2 racks of (the wrong size) boys clothes in the corner.

Not that this is a long simmering area of discontent for me
